Chapter 197: Chapter 197: Remember to Bring My Brother’s Card (3)

"Quick, start the car!"

After catching her breath, Mi Jing’s somewhat dazed eyes flickered, and she suddenly noticed that two or three people outside the car were casting inquisitive looks their way! Her pretty face turned hot all of a sudden. With her head lowered, she urged Shen Lingxing, finding the situation immensely embarrassing!

Shen Lingxing, in a very good mood, curled his lips into a faint smile, glanced at Mi Jing’s reddening ears, and then started the car to drive away.

The car sped along and finally stopped in front of an old, secluded house in the suburbs. With green tiles and blue bricks, this kind of house was truly rare in a city filled with towering buildings. Hidden among the trees, Shen Lingxing would never have known that Jin City had such a place if it weren’t for Mi Jing guiding the way.

On the rooftop, a tall chimney was billowing wisps of white smoke. Besides this, there was a well and a rectangular pool on one side of the house and a pond on the other. By the pond, some fruits and vegetables were planted. Further away, at the edge of the woods, a chicken coop fenced with a low barrier could be seen. Occasionally, the sound of chickens crowing added a touch of vitality to this tranquil locale.

Mi Jing looked around. It had been a long time since she last visited, but the place was still the same. Looking up, the sky was a dull gray, but standing here made her feel sunny and bright inside—very comfortable and pleasant.

"How do you feel? This place isn’t bad, right?" Mi Jing asked.

"It’s a great place to recuperate and cultivate oneself," Shen Lingxing said with a gentle smile, feeling that the place resembled a hidden paradise.

"An elderly person with excellent manners lives here," Mi Jing said while slipping her hand between Shen Lingxing’s arm and his side, holding onto him as they walked briskly toward the front door of the house.

Squeak—

Just one or two meters away from the door, the thick wooden door suddenly opened, and a middle-aged man walked out.

"Mr. Zhong," Mi Jing called out with a beaming smile when she saw the man.

"Haha, Jingjing, you brought your boyfriend this time?" Mr. Zhong glanced at Shen Lingxing and then smiled at Mi Jing.

"He’s not my boyfriend; he’s my husband." Mi Jing turned to introduce Shen Lingxing, "This is Sir Ouyang’s assistant, Mr. Zhong."

After a brief introduction, Mi Jing handed over the bag of tea leaves to Mr. Zhong and followed him into the house.

"Mr. Zhong, has Sir Ouyang been well lately?" As they passed by the side hall, Mi Jing glanced around and noticed a thick book lying open on the tea table next to a soft couch. She asked with some concern.

"He’s doing well. He was in a particularly good mood today when he heard you were coming," Mr. Zhong replied.

Mi Jing, still holding onto Shen Lingxing, chatted casually with Mr. Zhong as they walked through the corridor. The three of them arrived in front of a wooden door.

"This is Sir Ouyang’s studio. He’s a good friend of my grandmother’s. He may have a quirky temper, but he’s a good person," Mi Jing gently whispered to Shen Lingxing as Mr. Zhong went to push the door open.

"Little girl, why did you come so late?"

Before Mi Jing could finish her sentence, a somewhat aged voice from inside the room interrupted her. The voice was filled with both a question and a hint of eager anticipation.

"We agreed on this time! Sir Ouyang, are you too eager because you missed me?" Mi Jing walked into the studio with Shen Lingxing, smiling with crescent-shaped eyes at Sir Ouyang, who was working on a clay mold.

"Hmph, didn’t we agree that you would become my grandson’s wife? Why did you bring another man here? Are you trying to spite me?" Sir Ouyang continued working on the vase’s shape. Meanwhile, he took a glance at Shen Lingxing, following Mi Jing, and let out a disgruntled snort, looking none too pleased.

Hehe, he’s just an old child!

Mi Jing was already well acquainted with Sir Ouyang’s temperament. Smiling, she said, "I still need your help. How could I dare to spite you? Besides, even if I wanted to be your granddaughter-in-law, Tao wouldn’t agree!"

"That’s for me to decide!" Sir Ouyang straightened his back, speaking with an air of authority.

"Sir Ouyang, it’s the modern age. Are you still thinking of arranging marriages? Tao is three years younger than me; I don’t want an older woman chasing a younger man!"

"You little girl, what nonsense are you saying? As the saying goes, an older woman is a treasure! Tao would be lucky to marry you!" Sir Ouyang’s round eyes widened in amazement, his severe expression somewhat comical.

Mi Jing wanted to laugh but held it in, saying softly, "I’m already married."

"What?" Sir Ouyang gave Mi Jing a surprised look before his sharp gaze landed on Shen Lingxing!

"This brat?" Sir Ouyang raised his voice when asking.

"He has a name; it’s Shen Lingxing."

"Get out!"

Sir Ouyang had no decorum in his shooing people away. As soon as the words left his mouth, Mi Jing, almost as if she had anticipated it, quickly turned to walk away, leading Shen Lingxing out.

"Sigh, the old man has such a temper. Little Shen, don’t take it to heart!"

Mr. Zhong, who had taken a few steps forward, heard his master’s angry roar, immediately turned back, and stood at the door, explaining to the approaching Shen Lingxing.

"Hmm," Shen Lingxing nodded with a light smile, showing no displeasure. Instead, he realized once again how adored his wife was—not only did she have an ex who couldn’t move on, Zhao Yufan, but now Sir Ouyang too!

Afterward, the three of them walked back to the side hall. Mi Jing pulled Shen Lingxing to sit on a redwood chair, then picked up the tea canister on the tea table and began brewing tea with practiced ease.

"Little Shen, have some snacks," Mr. Zhong said while placing some snacks on the table in front of Shen Lingxing.

"Mr. Zhong, my husband doesn’t like sweets. Tea will be fine. You don’t need to trouble yourself," Mi Jing interjected.

Upon hearing this, Mr. Zhong gave a quick "Oh," smiled sheepishly at Shen Lingxing, and stood by to help prepare the teacups. Shen Lingxing, meanwhile, had his gaze fixed tenderly on Mi Jing, the faint smile on his lips hinting at his fondness. He particularly loved the way "my husband" sounded when she said it just now.

Soon, the tea was ready. Mi Jing poured a cup for both Shen Lingxing and Mr. Zhong, explained briefly to Shen Lingxing, and walked toward the studio with the teapot and another cup.

"Sir Ouyang, I brewed some tea for you. I’m coming in!" The studio door was ajar. Standing at the doorway, Mi Jing called out, seeing Sir Ouyang’s still stern profile.

"Come in," Sir Ouyang said coolly.

With a placating smile, Mi Jing bustled into the studio with the tea.

"Sir Ouyang, take a break and have some tea," Mi Jing said, pouring some tea and bringing it to Sir Ouyang.
