Chapter 109: Chapter 109: No Surprise, Won the Lawsuit (1)
"Then let’s go."
Mi Wan reached out and lightly patted Li Mei’s shoulder, then the three of them walked out of the waiting room together.
"All rise!"
In the courtroom, everyone was in their place. As soon as the judge took his seat, a loud and high-pitched voice immediately rang out, and everyone stood up, displaying an atmosphere of solemnity and seriousness.
After many years, standing in the courtroom once again, Mi Wan wasn’t too nervous because she was confident. The bright light in her eyes made Song Guotao, who was secretly watching her, a bit nervous.
After a round of statements in the courtroom, the defendant was brought out before long. This was the first time Mi Wan saw Hei Ziyi. Even though he had been imprisoned for several days, he did not show any signs of gloom, depression, regret, or any other emotions typical of someone who had been detained. On the contrary, his eyes were vicious and full of confidence, giving off a very arrogant vibe!
This was not surprising, as he was the son of a gang leader. Relying on his family’s power, he had always been accustomed to arrogance. Perhaps, he still firmly believed that there was nothing his father, Black Dragon, couldn’t handle?
"Defendant Hei Ziyi, were you on Red Guard Road at 9:50 PM on the night of the incident?" Mi Wan, dressed in a black suit uniform, walked steadily and calmly to Hei Ziyi, her expression serene. While speaking, the usual gentleness in her eyes disappeared, replaced by a serious and fearless gaze as she locked eyes with Hei Ziyi, not intimidated by his sinister and warning look in the slightest.
"..." Hei Ziyi didn’t answer but stared at Mi Wan intensely, his eyes filled with malice! If looks could kill, Mi Wan would have already been dead.
For a long while, there was no response from Hei Ziyi. The judge, sitting high above, picked up the gavel and knocked it, sternly saying, "Defendant, please answer the plaintiff’s defense lawyer’s question truthfully."
Upon hearing this, Song Guotao immediately signaled Hei Ziyi with his eyes, but Hei Ziyi’s attention was entirely on Mi Wan, unaware of Song Guotao’s gesture. Still, no matter how ruthless Hei Ziyi was, he couldn’t disregard the judge. This was a courtroom, and the judge held the highest authority. If he didn’t cooperate, he would certainly suffer the consequences.
"Yes, I went to Red Guard Road." Harboring several thoughts of revenge against Mi Wan, Hei Ziyi’s inner darkness and agitation were palpable. But he restrained himself, remained silent for another two or three seconds, and then calmly answered Mi Wan’s question. Only his eyes revealed his malice and hatred.
But Mi Wan was still fearless. At that moment, her heart was full of a sense of justice, solely intent on convicting this scum to prevent him from harming others in the future!
"Then, on Red Guard Road, did you forcibly stop Li Mei, who was wearing a school uniform, my client?" Mi Wan asked again.
"No." Hei Ziyi slowly uttered two words, his gaze never leaving Mi Wan’s face, and continued, "That night I was drinking with friends and was a bit tipsy, so I stood under the streetlight waiting for my family to pick me up. Shortly after, a girl came over and asked if I needed special services. I was tempted, but after thinking about it, I decided to refuse."
"The girl you mentioned, are you referring to my client?" Mi Wan asked calmly.
"Yes."
"Then why, if you were tempted, did you refuse?"
"Because she was wearing a school uniform, so I guessed she might be a minor."
"So, at that time, you were relatively sober, correct?" Mi Wan pressed on, question after question.
"I don’t know." Hei Ziyi answered coldly.
"Do you truly not know, or are you unwilling to tell the truth? Also, since you guessed my client was a minor, why did you sexually assault her?"
Mi Wan’s words were powerful and resounded through the quiet courtroom, clearly reaching everyone’s ears and directing all attention to Hei Ziyi.
How would he respond?
Everyone was curious.
"Objection!"
At that moment, a loud and urgent voice rang out. The next second, Song Guotao stood up, watching the judge and saying, "Your Honor, we object to the plaintiff’s defense lawyer’s false accusations!"
"Objection overruled." The judge, who looked to be around fifty years old with an air of authority, decisively dismissed Song Guotao’s objection.
Upon hearing this, Mi Wan’s voice became even more serious as she said, "Defendant, please answer my question truthfully."
"I can’t say I was entirely sober at the time, but one thing is for sure, I did not assault the plaintiff." Hei Ziyi, without a trace of panic, righteously said, "As a normal man, after drinking, sexual desire becomes more sensitive and harder to resist. At that time, the plaintiff told me she was an adult, wearing a school uniform only to add novelty. I believed her without thinking much. So, I paid the plaintiff for her services; it was not a rape!"
Turning rape into soliciting a prostitute?
Was this the defense theory Song Guotao had prepared for Hei Ziyi?
Thinking of this, Mi Wan’s eyes turned cold as she continued to press, "Then how do you explain the multiple injuries on my client’s body caused by violent attacks?"
"I had been drinking, and due to my personal preferences, I like it rough. Besides, it was a monetary transaction between the plaintiff and me, so naturally, I wouldn’t have any feelings of compassion for her!" These were prepared statements, and since Hei Ziyi was not in the least bit stage-frightened, answering fluently was to be expected. As such, Mi Wan was not surprised at all.
"So, according to you, lacking compassion gives you the right to use violence? Moreover, as a man who frequently indulges in such places, you should have some understanding of women. My client is just a sixteen-year-old high school student, exemplary in both academics and conduct, with no bad habits and certainly not the type to sell her body for money. On the contrary, you have a history of frequent fights and disturbances, entering a police station at least once a week. It is truly hard to trust someone with such an improper character!"
"Objection!"
Song Guotao raised an objection again, standing up with a hint of agitation, saying, "Your Honor, we object to the plaintiff’s defense lawyer’s personal attacks on the defendant!"
"What I am saying is the truth, Your Honor. I have prepared documents confirming my earlier accusations against the defendant, checked with relevant police personnel." Mi Wan turned to the defense lawyer’s stand, took a document, and said to the judge in an orderly manner.
"Present the documents."
As soon as the judge finished his words, a staff member immediately approached Mi Wan, and she stepped forward to hand over the documents. The staff member then handed the documents to the judge for him and the adjudicators to review and discuss.
Now, Mi Wan had the upper hand. Seeing the unfavorable situation, Song Guotao tightly gripped the pen in his hand, glanced at the composed Mi Wan, then shifted his gaze to the judge, and said, "Your Honor, today’s trial is to determine whether my client violated the plaintiff, not to assess my client’s character. Therefore, please allow our witness to testify."
