Chapter 870: Chapter 853: The Fishing King as a Substitute
Yue Feng smiled: “Zhao Zheng and Zhao Ran, their basic skills are definitely sufficient, but these three little guys lack targeted training. Starting tomorrow, we’re not letting them pinch fish anymore. We’ll do some targeted training! I’ll assist you!”
“Alright, I’ll create a training plan when we get back later! This technical analysis was suggested by Tingting. From now on, we’ll do it this way! I find it very scientific!”
Yue Feng nodded: “That girl, though she’s a girl, likes watching basketball. Maybe she got inspired by watching the NBA! Let’s refine it well while we have some time before the tournament!”
“Hmm!”
…
After finalizing the plan to refine fishing skills with targeted training, the following days proved tough for Wang Zhen, Xue Kai, and Wang Xiaomin.
Niu Ben created a targeted training plan for the three of them, then didn’t let them participate in pinching fish competitions, instead pulling them to a corner to obediently train according to plan.
If it were just simple training, that would be fine. After all, these new recruits worked hard while practicing with poles in the club’s backyard.
This time, though, the targeted training proved to be unfriendly.
Yue Feng was right alongside them, doing fishing simultaneously the entire time.
For an angler at Yue Feng’s level, following a rhythm, dual-tasking to handle one fish at a time is second nature, constantly using his excellent technique to push these kids close to their breaking point.
Imagine this: preparing a fishing approach before fishing starts, then Yue Feng fishes alongside.
After exhausting all efforts in a fishing session, they find he easily wins.
Not by much, just by one fish, followed by a summary of what went wrong in-between.
This comprehensive honing of both technique and mindset is nothing short of a devil’s training.
Despite the discomfort, two days of intense devil training showed significant improvement, especially in Wang Xiaomin, whom the coach and Yue Feng were most optimistic about, as he progressed swiftly.
This seemingly honest-looking boy, when facing Yue Feng’s pressure in one-on-one fish pinching, exhibited extraordinary resilience.
His speed rose from 200 tails to 230 tails, then to 240 tails, seemingly never reaching the limit of his improvement.
In one session, Yue Feng also got serious, going all out against Wang Xiaomin, and during a one-hour competition, Wang Xiaomin gritted his teeth, maintaining the rhythm for over forty minutes, only falling behind by three fish in the first half.
But such intense exertion had its downsides. Before the fish pinching session finished, Wang Xiaomin’s forehead was covered in sweat, his face pale, even vomiting mid-way. He was slightly sunstruck due to tension and overly tight muscles!
This unexpected situation made everyone anxious, requiring cooling measures and administering some herbal remedies, taking half a day to gradually recover.
The two days of devil training soon concluded, and unknowingly, everyone at Yuefeng Club had already stayed at the Fishing Base for more than ten days.
Before dusk, Xiao Hai led people to announce a notice for closing the pond for sterilization and disinfection. Over the next 48 hours, the base wouldn’t be open for pole practice. Sign-ins close at 3 pm the day after tomorrow, and the club tournament for the East China Region officially begins two days after that.
With fishing base closed for pole practice, but Yue Feng and his team figured ways to move the ground to the Practice Pole Pond in the Hua Clan’s plant area, taking the three kids through another round of training.
Unknowingly, another two days passed. Pre-tournament sign-ins completed, Yue Feng and Niu Ben led their team members to meet many renowned figures in the fishing community.
All official club teams within the region came, making for quite an exciting scene.
After sign-ins concluded, everyone received commemorative items distributed by the Club Alliance Cup—sunscreen clothing, hats, and fish guards. These equipment need to be used by everyone in the competition starting tomorrow.
The night before the tournament, Yue Feng and Niu Ben called all the team members to the lodging early for a meeting.
Niu Ben handed out a printed copy of the match regulations to each person.
“These are the regulations for the tournament starting tomorrow! Everyone take a look and raise any questions!”
Yue Feng had already reviewed the regulations in advance. To be fair, the rules were very scientifically established.
During the qualifying stage, the total team weight method is used, conducting a first mixed weight competition with five participants, along with one target fish weight competition with five people.
After two competitions, rankings are based on total weight!
Twelve clubs qualify.
After qualifying stage ends, it enters the second stage,
Club Duel!
Qualified clubs arrange their lineup before fishing begins, choosing their opponent based on ranking from the first stage for 1v1 duels,
During duels, only one person is allowed on stage at a time, with each session being 30 minutes long, and each match lasting a total of 150 minutes!
One target fish weight match, plus one mixed weight match; after two duels, the top six are determined based on overall results.
The remaining six teams compete in an additional round, deciding two revival spots, eliminating the others.
Post-second stage matches will decide the top eight of the East China Region, successfully qualifying for the finals.
During this interval, clubs making it to the top eight automatically qualify as an A Level Club! For the next season, if one wants to gain qualification, they must compete upwards from a lower-level B Class League.
In matches beyond the top eight, it’s still a 1v1 mode, drawing lots to decide opponents, determining the top four, and then a round-robin points competition. Finally, the champion, runner-up, and second runner-up are determined based on points!
About five minutes later, after everyone finished reading the rules, Wang Zhen raised his head to look at Yue Feng and Niu Ben.
“Brother Feng, Coach Niu! The rules allow only five people to go on stage! We have six people, how do we arrange that?”
Asking this question, Wang Zhen’s mindset was quite uncertain, because, when sorted by personal ability, he’s the weakest in the team, very likely to be the bench warmer with no chance to play.
Yue Feng grinned, looking at Wang Zhen: “Among the six of us in the team, who do you think is more reasonable to not let onto the stage?”
Wang Zhen scratched his head: “If judged by personal comprehensive ability, I’m at the bottom! Kai and Xiaomin are stronger than me!”
Yue Feng nodded: “At least you have some self-awareness!”
“Then…” Wang Zhen continued to ask, appearing cautious, somewhat making one feel sympathetic.
Regarding playing opportunities, Wang Zhen, who is usually lively and cheerful, couldn’t help but feel anxious.
“Don’t worry, for the first two rounds with regular fish conditions, the five of you should be sufficient! I’ll be a backup and support, designate tactics for you, and prepare bait and such!
If your performance remains stable, I’ll continue to give you the starting chance! You’ve all made progress through this period of training!”
