Chapter 771: Chapter 757: Flounder?

“Holy shit, that was a quick bite!” Yue Feng muttered to himself and quickly got up to struggle with the fish.

Yue Feng was okay with letting the rig down just now, but when he started reeling in after getting a bite, he soon experienced the inconvenience mentioned by Uncle Victor.

The water was too deep, the sinker too heavy, which greatly increased the resistance after getting a bite. Pulling in the line was a bitter joy. Swinging his arms vigorously for quite a while and still fifty-plus meters to go, he grit his teeth and continued reeling in the line until he finally hauled up the first fish.

It had a slick black head, and its mouth was full of tiny teeth; its back was covered with fine spots, and it looked kind of like a Big Mouth Bass but was two sizes larger.

“Cod! About seven or eight jin, you’re lucky today!” Uncle Victor couldn’t help but comment after glancing at it.

Yue Feng removed the hook and once again held up the fish to show it off in the live stream: “Haha, first cast and I got a cod! It’s a decent size too!”

“Cod is even more precious than blackhead. We’ve caught a lot of these back home, and they are so delicious!”

“It tastes really fresh, doesn’t need any processing. Just steam it in a pot with some garlic cloves, super tasty!”

“This kind of fish likes to school, so since I got one on the first cast, there might be a school down there. I’ll keep casting, gotta catch a few more while there’s time!”

Hearing what his online pals were saying, Yue Feng quickly perked up again, placing his catch in the second empty pouch and, after baiting the hook, cast down his rig to continue fishing.

Sure enough, his online buddies called it right. He had just let the rig down to the bottom and not even half a minute later, he hooked another one!

Seeing the fishing rod’s tip jerk and pause non-stop, a faint sense of powerlessness emerged at the bottom of Yue Feng’s heart.

Dammit, there’s no time to rest. As soon as the rig reached the designated layer, I’d get a bite! Isn’t this exhausting the poor kid?

Without an electric reel, manually reeling in one to two hundred meters of fishing line by hand, after pulling in five fish, Yue Feng felt his arms were so sore he couldn’t bear it.

“Phew… that’s the fifth one, plenty of resources, lots of fish! But we weren’t prepared enough, didn’t bring an electric reel. It’s enough to catch just enough to eat, no use for more! Let me rest for a bit!” Yue Feng put the fish into the live well, his expression a bit distorted.

“Hahaha, Iron Man Feng has his moments of surrender!”

“Should I say it or not, but Feng, you’re like a well-fed man who doesn’t know the hunger of a starving one. When we went to sea before, just to catch a few cods or blackheads, sometimes the captain would take us to several spots before we got anything. Sometimes, we’d work all day and not catch a single one! Now look at you, isn’t it embarrassing? Not fishing when there are fish is a sin!”

Yue Feng threw the fishing rod onto the rod holder and said, “Give it a rest, say whatever you want. I haven’t fully recovered from my cold yet! I’ve only pulled in a few fish, and I’m already sweating bullets!”

Ken looked at Yue Feng with concern, took out a tissue to wipe his sweat, and said, “Why don’t you take a break? I’ll fish for you for a while! No one’s competing with you, what’s the rush?”

Yue Feng sneered and grabbed a bottle of mineral water, taking a big gulp, then reminded her, “Okay, go ahead, but make sure to secure the fishing rod with the anti-drop rope. Be careful not to get pulled into the water by a sea monster!”

Ken laughed and nodded her head: “Psh, you think I don’t know anything? Don’t worry, I’ll definitely catch a bigger one than you! Guys, Fengfeng is exhausted, let him rest for a bit, watch me!”

Although Ken seemed unassuming, she was quick-witted and learned fast. There are just so many basics to sea fishing, and she had learned them all by going back and forth a few times.

Taking over Yue Feng’s fishing rod, Ken checked the rig methodically, then rebaited the hook and confirmed everything was fine before casting the hefty sinker into the water. Then she held onto the reel and let out the line.

It was strange. Before, Yue Feng would get a bite as soon as he cast. The longest he had to wait was less than a minute! But this time, with Ken fishing, two minutes had passed since the rig reached the bottom, and there was still no action at all.

“Oh no, Fengfeng, something’s not right! Why have they stopped biting now that it’s my turn to fish?” The kid seemed puzzled.

Yue Feng glanced over and asked, “Did you reel in the line after your rig hit the bottom? Could it be stuck in some rocks or something? Try pulling the line up a bit and see if it’s snagged on the bottom!”

The kid cranked the handle of the reel, and although there was quite a bit of resistance, it moved, meaning it wasn’t snagged on the bottom.

“It’s not snagged, see? I’ve reeled in a meter of line already!” The kid repeated the reeling action.

Yue Feng shook his head, “Then I don’t know. Maybe the school of fish has moved on! Just wait it out a little longer! If I’d known they weren’t biting, I wouldn’t have given up my turn!”

“How about I try teasing them by moving the line up and down?” The kid couldn’t help but suggest.

“Sure, go ahead and mess around! Sea fish aren’t that picky!” Yue Feng waved his hand, not caring too much; without much pressure, he let the kid play around.

With Yue Feng’s permission, the kid really started teasing the fish by reeling in and letting out the line, with only a few meters of movement, still in the area closest to the bottom.

“Darn, can fish recognize people or something? They don’t bite when I fish; that’s quite humiliating!” The kid was getting a little discouraged after a long time without any catches.

As he was complaining, the tip of the fishing rod suddenly jerked downwards, followed by the furious sound of fleeing.

“Hey, Fengfeng, I’ve got one! And it’s strong!” The kid couldn’t help but shout.

Yue Feng thought the kid was joking and didn’t take it seriously, but he turned his head out of habit and instantly got up when he saw the bend in the fishing rod.

The movement of the fishing rod now was much stronger than the ten or eight catty cod from before.

“Don’t panic, use Loose Release Force and let it take out line!” Yue Feng called out as he walked over.

“How much should I loosen it?” In the heat of the moment, the kid was a bit panicked.

Yue Feng didn’t answer, but swiftly walked over to the kid and quickly twirled the drag adjustment knob with his fingers.

Click, click, click, click, a series of sounds from the line being taken out began, and Yue Feng’s tense nerves finally relaxed a bit. The fish started taking out line, greatly reducing the risk of the hook coming loose during the fish’s initial run.

“What kind of fish is this? It’s so strong!” The kid watched the line come out non-stop with a lingering sense of unease.

Yue Feng shook his head and stared intently at the fishing rod secured to the gunwale.

With sea fishing, having the rod propped on the gunwale saves a lot more energy compared to holding it, so Yue Feng wasn’t panicking and quickly calmed down.

“Uncle Victor, are there many big fish in this area?” Yue Feng curiously asked.

Victor: “The water is colder here, so there are big fish, but they’re not as active as in other warm water areas! Also, some good news, there are fewer sharks in these cooler waters! Looking at this fish’s behavior, I guess you’ve probably hooked a flounder!”

“What’s that? A flounder?”
