Chapter 743: Chapter 730: Bear!!!

For those who frequently participate in outdoor activities, wading into the water with waders is a basic operation, but many fans in the live streaming room are from the city and have rarely had such experiences. The area where the water depth changes, with some steps deep and some shallow, looked a bit thrilling, making this group of people extremely nervous.

Continuing upstream for about half an hour, the water’s surface widened again, and the color changed from the previous yellow-green to a faint green. According to Uncle Victor, the water in this area was much deeper, with many places being four or five meters deep, or even more.

With deeper water, naturally more fish could be accommodated. The fishing boat found a spot to moor on the side, and Yue Feng, facing the large area, waved his fishing rod and resumed exploring.

Plenty of fish were caught, but the big one that everyone was longing for remained elusive. A few dogfish and silver trout were caught, each weighing around four or five jin. Since the silver trout were of higher quality and better taste, he caught and prepared them for the noon meal, while the dogfish were released by Yue Feng.

Time flew from early morning past eight o’clock to noon; the sun came out, dissipating the haze that had blanketed the Kubi River, and Yue Feng’s stomach began to rumble with hunger.

“Fengfeng, shall we find a place to have lunch? I’m hungry!” the baby said pitifully.

No sooner had the word “hungry” left the baby’s mouth than Yue Feng’s stomach growled in reply.

“I’m hungry too. Uncle Victor, shall we go back to camp to eat, or shall we handle it on the boat?” Yue Feng asked politely.

Victor looked around at the surroundings and said, “I brought enough provisions for the three of us when I came out. However, the fish probably won’t bite much around noon, so why don’t we find a suitable riverside spot and I’ll make you a delicious fish soup! The climate here is much colder; drinking fish soup will warm you up!”

Victor the Captain’s suggestion was immediately met with enthusiastic approval from both Yue Feng and the baby.

Once the three had agreed on a plan, they quickly found a spot on the riverside suitable for the small boat to dock and secured the boat to a large tree by the riverbank. Then, Uncle Victor took simple cooking utensils from the boat and stepped ashore.

“Guys, after consulting with Captain Uncle, our little team has decided to go ashore and start a fire to cook! In a foreign land, let’s have a little campfire cooking session!” Yue Feng called out and then raised the drone’s altitude, capturing aerial footage of the surrounding environment.

Perhaps due to the annual rise and fall of the water levels, the banks of the Kubi River hardly had any thick, sturdy trees. There were many flat areas of varying sizes near the river, perfect for camping. Victor casually chose a flat spot to set down the cooking gear and the catch, and began to get busy.

With just a cursory observation, Yue Feng realized that Uncle Victor’s wilderness survival skills were excellent. Choosing a camping site, collecting firewood, preparing ingredients – Yue Feng and the baby were keen to help, but they ended up only being able to assist in minor ways, as the majority of the work was competently handled by the Captain.

In truth, the lunch was quite simple to make.

The silver trout had been processed earlier, and the fish meat was ready to use. The roe had been lightly cured and was ready to be eaten.

Victor, the Captain, casually grabbed a larger mahi-mahi from the live fish box and swiftly cleaned it by the water, chopping it into chunks.

He then set up a simple tripod of wooden forks over the fire, hung the field pot for making soup from it, and tossed in the fish chunks with some basic deodorizing spices. As the campfire beneath crackled and burst into flames, a delicious aroma soon wafted from the pot.

“Uncle Victor, do you often camp outdoors?” Yue Feng made casual conversation during the wait for the fish soup to be ready.

“Yes! I take many foreign customers out fishing and hunting every year. Cooking and living outdoors is fundamental, commonsense skill!”

“You seem very careful in choosing where to light a fire. Is there a reason for that?” Yue Feng asked further.

Victor nodded, “In the wilds of Russia, it’s different from China. There are many uninhabited areas here, rarely visited by people, and abundant with wildlife.

“When choosing a camping spot, the first consideration is safety! For example, the fish we slaughter are best cleaned by the water, and then wash away the scent of blood! Or the fish soup we are cooking now might attract the attention of brown bears!”

When selecting a campsite environment, one must be sure to choose an area as open as possible, without any large obstructions! Otherwise, if a brown bear suddenly springs out of the bushes, even if you’re armed, there’s a risk of injury from a sudden attack!”

As he said this, Yue Feng subconsciously scanned his surroundings a few times. The area around him had sparse trees, and it wasn’t possible for a fierce animal to hide within at least a two-hundred-meter radius.

Just as Yue Feng glanced around and was about to lower his head, the child beside him excitedly tugged at his arm.

“Fengfeng, quick, is that a baby bear?”

Hearing “baby bear”, Yue Feng immediately tensed his muscles and looked in the direction the child was pointing.

The child pointed to the southern side of the temporary camp, which was located on the leeward side, very close to the shore—no more than fifty meters away. There, a dark little figure was sniffing around, east and west.

Upon closer examination, if it wasn’t a bear, what else could it be?

“Damn! It really is a bear!” Yue Feng couldn’t help but swear in excitement, and with his left hand, he grabbed the child’s arm and positioned her in front of him while his right hand instinctively tightened around a piece of wood nearby.

“Where is it? Don’t panic, I’ve got a gun!” Uncle Victor quickly grabbed the hunting shotgun hanging on his chest, expertly loaded a cartridge, and looked in the direction the child was pointing.

Encountering a wild bear during a live-streamed camp-cooking session, the chat exploded instantly.

“Holy shit! For real?”

“Where’s the bear? Show it on camera!”

“Be careful, Feng, run if you have to!”

Yue Feng took a deep breath and then turned the drone camera around. Soon, a bear cub appeared in the live stream’s footage.

“Damn, damn, it really is a brown bear!”

“It must be a bear cub, right? Looks thin and small, probably not dangerous!”

“Don’t let your guard down; its mother might be nearby! Such a small bear should be living close to its mother!”

The viewers in the live stream suddenly perked up, relieved the bear wasn’t seen as a danger.

Uncle Victor observed for a moment and said, “This seems to be a little one that got separated from its mother. Don’t be too worried!”

“Isn’t that dangerous?” Yue Feng asked.

Victor nodded, “Shouldn’t be a big problem! There’s plenty of food this season, and bears that are living normally are supposed to be fattening up right now. They should be sleek and shiny, but as you can see, this little one looks skinny and bony; obviously, it hasn’t been protected by its mother!”

Sure enough, as a seasoned hunter with vast outdoor experience, Uncle Victor’s analysis was logical and very close to the truth.
