Chapter 628 - 628 615 Details are King
628: Chapter 615: Details are King 628: Chapter 615: Details are King Hearing this from Yue Feng, Lawrence seriously shook his head, “No, my dear friend!
Fishing is a very sacred activity!
I always believe that if a person can fish well, there’s nothing in this world that they can’t do well!”
Lawrence’s words did touch Yue Feng somewhat.
Fishing is a systematic project, and many factors affect the final result.
To do well really does demand a lot from a person’s overall qualities.
His words indeed made sense from certain aspects.
“You’re right!
I apologize for my laxness,” Yue Feng hurriedly expressed his apology.
Seeing Yue Feng get serious, Lawrence’s face broke into a satisfied smile, “Pick out the appropriate lures and rods for yourselves.
The target is the bottom-dwelling grouper that can be found everywhere here!
We’ll use the total weight as the criterion to determine the winner!”
Yue Feng nodded, “Okay!”
“You have ten minutes to prepare, and the competition will start after ten minutes, lasting for one hour!
If there are no objections, you can start preparing now!”
“Ok!”
The moment Yue Feng nodded, he found the Sea King Card and chose to activate it.A warm current poured into his mind, and countless pieces of information about sea fishing magically appeared.
Before using the card, Yue Feng had rated his sea fishing skills around the passing mark, with only a basic understanding of techniques but details needing improvement.
However, upon entering the Sea King State, Yue Feng realized that his previous understanding of sea fishing barely even qualified as rudimentary.
For instance, the current challenge of bottom fishing for grouper, Yue Feng had initially thought it was merely about grouper; just use the iron plate fast drawing underwater.
How hard could it be?
Be diligent, draw more often, and with a bit of luck, he could stand a chance to win.
But now, to Yue Feng, that idea completely seemed like novice thinking.
Around the coral reef area off the coast of Karyang Island, there were over a hundred types of mid-small sized grouper species with distinct environmental preferences, predatory habits, and diets.
To truly fish these groupers well, there were many nuances in bottom fishing.
The next second, Yue Feng glanced at the iron plate rods and iron plate baits behind him and began to choose very seriously.
A previously noticed somewhat soft iron plate rod, four slow shaking iron plates of varying sizes but all having luminescent effects, even the number on the line in the reel caught Yue Feng’s detailed scrutiny.
He meticulously selected the equipment he would be using for the upcoming task.
While Yue Feng was seriously picking equipment, Lawrence was quietly observing his selections.
Seeing Yue Feng choose the luminescent version of the slow shaking iron plate, Lawrence upgraded his estimate of Yue Feng by a notch.
Luminescent lures are very effective against certain types of grouper.
The slightly short, wide form of the slow shaking iron plate positions better underwater than the fast iron plate.
If controlled properly, the chance of hooking a fish would be much higher.
This was a detail that many veteran anglers who had fished for decades might overlook, yet this Chinese angler noticed it.
“I’m ready.
Shall we start now?” Yue Feng asked casually after giving his gear a final check.
“Ok!
Start!” Lawrence nodded, and the competition began.
Yue Feng remained composed, flicked his wrist, and swung the bait into the water beside the boat.
Then, during the time it took for the line to extend, he deftly made a fine adjustment to the drag.
Yes, you read that right.
He had already started fine-tuning the drag as soon as the lure hit the water.
This wasn’t much use for improving fishing efficiency, but it allowed Yue Feng to get a feel for this particular reel’s performance.
It also enabled him to keep the fishing line as taut as possible, allowing for quicker signal feedback.
Just earlier, while the boat was anchored, he had already used the boat’s equipment to check the underwater conditions.
The average depth was around 50 meters, in a relatively flat coral reef area.
In the blink of an eye, the iron plate bait reached the bottom, and the line stopped coming out of the spool.
Yue Feng slightly rewound the line to tighten the spool and playfully jiggled the rod tip.
Grouper fish generally stay near the bottom, and to successfully fish them, teasing with the lure is key.
Though Yue Feng’s flick of the rod tip seemed casual, the strength and angle were just right.
The iron plate bait, after hitting the bottom and becoming still, subtly accelerated and then hovered a few centimeters above the bottom.
After this flick, Yue Feng did nothing for at least five seconds, letting the lure freely fall back to the bottom.
At that moment, if there were a viewpoint underwater, one could see that the lure had just reached the bottom and was already being eyed by a nearby grouper.
However, the creature was cautious and did not wildly attack the lure and get hooked as one might expect.
Marine predatory fish have certain patterns when hunting, especially when targeting prey with health issues because these attacks have a better success rate.
The adjustment Yue Feng made to the bait’s posture was in line with this principle, enticing the fish with a brief speed up before it returned to lying motionless at the bottom, as if a sick fish had spotted a predator and was in a state of tension.
About six or seven seconds later, Yue Feng teased the fishing rod again, this time with much less force, causing the iron plate bait to dart forward underwater.
The next second, Yue Feng teased the tip again, accelerating the forward motion.
This time, the grouper below couldn’t resist any longer, lashing its tail energetically and rushing forward.
It gulped the bait’s tail end right into its mouth.
Yue Feng felt a slight tug on the rod, set the hook with a lift, and the corners of his mouth slightly lifted.
Hooked!
From the force coming up through the water, Yue Feng estimated the fish wasn’t large, probably just around two to three pounds.
After a brief tense control of a few seconds, he slightly adjusted the release of tension and easily hauled the fish up.
“The first one!” Yue Feng slightly pushed the rod upward with both hands, and a three-pound, brownish-gray grouper was pulled aboard the boat.
Bending down to unhook the fish, Yue Feng specifically looked at the position where the lure had been bitten.
The three hooks on the backside of the lure were caught near the outer side of the fish’s cheek gill.
Seeing this, Yue Feng slightly furrowed his brow.
Relative to this fish, the lure Yue Feng had used was slightly too big, causing it not to be swallowed properly during the attack.
The hook only managed to catch the side of the cheek gill; had luck been slightly less, the fish could have gotten away.
Removing the hook, Yue Feng nonchalantly took pliers from his waist and without hesitation cut off the iron plate bait he had used only once.
He quickly replaced it with another luminescent one, only a size smaller.
Lawrence didn’t notice the unhooking action, but when he saw Yue Feng skillfully tying the lure with the leader line, Lawrence slightly narrowed his eyes.
The technique was too practiced, feeling as though it could be done with his eyes closed.
The knotting method was also the most classic type, and before one could blink, Yue Feng had it tied perfectly, demonstrating high proficiency.
