Fishing Livestream
Chapter 292 - 292 291 Grasping the Details

292: Chapter 291: Grasping the Details 292: Chapter 291: Grasping the Details Yue Feng had already mentioned similar things several times during his live streams, but because of the rapid increase in followers recently, many new fans were hearing about the intricacies of fishing from Yue Feng for the first time.

The analogy to solving math problems was actually quite vivid and could help those new to fishing form a relatively reliable understanding of it by leveraging their existing cognitive habits.

The analogy of interpreting and solving problems was particularly easy to understand, and many fans who previously had little knowledge of the subject would immediately form a directional concept in their mind after hearing it.

“Brother Feng, that analogy is awesome!

It feels like the somewhat unclear thoughts have been sorted out all at once!”

“Of course, who do you think our Brother Feng is?

He’s the guy who can win championships and rank first even in official competitions!”

“I couldn’t make heads or tails of the Crucian Carp Field, it feels completely different fishing for small crucian carp in a Competition Pond than fishing for them in natural reservoirs.

Brother Feng, can you explain why this is?

I’ve been learning fishing for five years now, just messing around in the small rivers near my home!”

“The brother above is spot on.

I feel the same.

In my memory, when Brother Feng first started streaming, it was during the spring when the crucian carp were biting really well, and the movement of the float was very decisive and beautiful.

But now that the temperature has risen and the fish are denser, their bites seem worse.

Look at the bites from the morning competition; under the high-definition cameras, they’re almost imperceptible, yet Brother Feng lifts the rod, and he’s got a fish!”

“Plus one for the above, curious as well!”

Seeing this, Yue Feng said, “Since so many brothers are asking about this, let’s talk about it!

First off, you all need to understand one basic concept.

The density of crucian carp in a competition is incredibly high.

How high?

In a Competition Pit where about forty or fifty people are fishing simultaneously, the number of small crucian carp can exceed several tens of thousands.

And if you add the naturally-bred juvenile crucian carp, the total number is even greater!

In such high densities, there are actually fish in every water layer; it’s not just bottom fishing that can catch crucian carp like many people usually think!

Corresponding with the high density is another issue: the fish experience repetitive catch-and-release, which greatly affects their normal feeding habits.

The combination of super high density and unstable light bites or soft bites, and slippery bites, leads to special float movements!

If the crucian carp in the pit are fresh fish that have just been stocked and are experiencing their first fishing session, their bites would be even more exaggerated than those of the crucian carp found in wild fishing!

A friend of mine told me that back in the day when they were competing, freshly stocked small crucian carp didn’t even need any float adjustment; just throw in a steel-footed float, cast the line, and it would immediately strike the fish, often catching two at a time!

You didn’t need to watch the float at all, just go by frequency!

But if it’s slippery fish that have been caught and released often, the bites become very weak!

The bites are weak, so in competitive fishing targeting these old, slippery fish, any deviation from the regular movement of the float as it gets into position upon entering the water could be a signal for a bite!

How should you understand this?

Maybe many brothers still don’t get it, don’t worry, let me demonstrate it for you!”

Having said that, Yue Feng turned and went back to the counter, casually grabbing one of the floats that retailed for a few bucks apiece in the store.

“Let’s take this float as an example and explain the regular actions during the entire process of the float entering the water!”

First of all, when the whole line group enters the water, the sinker will take the branch line down.

At this moment, the float lies flat on the surface of the water, and that’s when the first potential bite indication occurs!

Instead of turning over, the float lies there for quite some time without any movement!

This is the action taken when a fish mouths the bait, which I call a high-position take!

Generally, in a depth of 1.6m, such indications mostly occur between seventy to eighty centimeters to around one meter.

Any higher and the fish won’t easily chase it up; any lower and a take will cause the sinker to straighten the main line, hence the float would turn over.

If the float turns over normally, it means that the whole water line has been straightened out by the sinker, implying that the sinker’s position underwater is basically at the depth minus the length of the float, and then minus the length of the branch line.

Still taking the 1.6m deep Competition Pond as an example, with the branch line folded in half, it would be roughly twenty centimeters in length—the float’s length varies between thirty-five to fifty centimeters with forty centimeters being commonly used for crucian carp fishing!

By a simple calculation, the position where the float just turned over is basically around one meter underwater!

Once the float turns over and the whole main line is taut, the float enters the next phase!

The branch line will gradually catch up to the sinker’s depth, then make a second sway.

During this process, if you’re paying attention while fishing, you’ll often notice a subtle detail in the float’s movement!

After the float turns over, many floats will make a standing motion, a brief pause after turning over, where the height of the float’s center of gravity and the length of the branch line both affect the duration of this pause.

If a fish bites at this stage, the float will find it difficult to drop down.

The specific indication is that after turning over, it stays at the high position without moving, indicating that a fish has taken the bait!

If the fish hasn’t taken the bait at this point, the second downward swing of the branch line will continue, and the float will move from the standing position and continue to descend, reflected in the float as the fishing target slowly moving downwards until the predetermined fishing depth gradually stabilizes!

During this process, there’s still an opportunity for the fish to take the bait.

If at this stage, the bait is taken into the fish’s mouth, the float will typically pause, or dip, or push up and send the float, or even move off at an angle with a dark float, among a variety of float movements, which we often encounter during regular fishing sessions!

The final stage is when the float, through a series of motions, and then the double hooks reach the bottom and achieve a new buoyancy equilibrium, that’s when we see the fish’s actions beneath the floats!

At this point, if your float setup is sensitive, as fish swim near the double hook bait, the float typically shows slight vertical movements.

The probing float will have a slight upward push, a take will result in a small dip, and if you don’t lift the rod, the full take of the fish turning around will be a strong, pronounced dip.

After eating and lifting its head, the float will demonstrate sending the float motion!”

With just a single float, Yue Feng roughly demonstrated all the phases that the fishing rig exhibits after entering the water, and since he used an actual float, most of the audience in the live-stream could understand.

However, before the float turned and reached its position, the state of the line group and bait was a bit abstract, leaving some viewers confused.

“Damn, that’s a bit different from what I thought happened after the line group enters the water!”

“It really is different.

I thought the bait touched the bottom first.

According to Brother Feng’s explanation, the sinker is the first to hit the bottom, and the branch line reaches later!”
