Chapter 264 - 264 263 The Old Gun Admits Defeat

Yue Feng scratched his head, “Hehe, it’s all about practicing until it gets right, good enough to use!”

“Did you add wine?” Liu Fengnian asked.

“No, should I add some?

Then I’ll make a new batch!”

“Make another batch, let’s see if this wine works in the Competition Pond!”

“Okay!”

Yue Feng agreed and swiftly poured some dry bait ingredients for the second preparation.

This time, Yue Feng still did not use a measuring cup, but because he needed to add Musk Wine, he opted to scoop water with his hand into a nearby empty basin.

After he thought there was enough water, he took out the Musk Wine and added a few drops with the pipette at the bottle’s mouth into the water basin.

After adding the Medicinal Wine, Yue Feng casually dumped all the bait ingredients into the water basin and evenly stirred with his fingers spread out.

Liu and Zhang exchanged glances once again, both spotting a heavy disbelief in each other’s eyes.

For the two seasoned anglers, fishing came with a wealth of insights, and their understanding of bait preparation was extensive.

Not long before, Yue Feng had kept stirring and adding water; the difficulty of bait opening was relatively minor, at least allowing for gradual adjustment.

Even if the water added was slightly off at first, it could still be fine-tuned with subsequent scooping.

If it were a calm and unrushed state of bait opening, both Zhang and Liu felt confident they could get the bait condition to their satisfaction.

But Yue Feng’s second addition of Medicinal Wine during bait preparation was almost out of this world; he glanced at the quantity and condition of the dry bait ingredients, then scooped water with his hand from another basin until he felt the amount was right, mixed everything well right after adding medicated wine.

In this entire process, there were no more tiny adjustments to the amount of water.

Yet, a few minutes later when the bait preparation was completed, the condition was still perfect, the water balance ideal, and the state very good.

Once might attribute such a perfect outcome to luck, happenstance.

But if one could achieve this result every time, that would truly be skill.

“Tsk tsk, Yue Feng, you’ve really surprised me with this skill!” exclaimed Zhang Fenglin.

“When did you practice this?

Many competitive fishing masters in our country, who have fished for decades, might not even have your skill!” added Liu Fengnian.

Yue Feng knew in his heart it was the effect of the Basic Bait Opening skill, but he couldn’t very well admit that, so he feigned innocence and tilted his head, “I didn’t practice specifically, it’s more like a feeling, just feeling right about it, and then when I make it, it ends up being just right!

I can’t even explain it!”

“Awesome!” Liu Fengnian and Zhang Fenglin simultaneously gave a thumbs up.

Little did the two veteran anglers know, this was just the appetizer; more impressive techniques were yet to come.

After the bait was prepared, Yue Feng split the two portions of bait in half and started to test fish with them.

The thing with competitive fishing is that it requires consideration of far more detailed and comprehensive aspects compared to casual and Black Pit fishing.

The main purpose for anglers coming out to test fish was to make targeted judgments about details, to prepare prospectively for the competition the next day.

For example, the preferences in bait flavors, the size of fish targeted, and the effects of different fishing line and hook combinations are a few main dimensions considered by anglers.

Apart from these aspects, Liu Fengnian and Yue Feng had another main purpose, which was to test the effectiveness of musk wine in the competition pond.

After dividing the baits, Zhang Fenglin casually picked up two lumps of bait from Liu’s container, which looked almost identical, and gently sniffed them.

“There’s basically no difference in scent, huh?

And you were being so serious!”

Liu Fengnian grinned, “I haven’t tried it at Old Ge’s place yet, so I can’t say for sure, but the results from previous experiments were quite noticeable!

Don’t underestimate those few drops of Yue Feng’s wine, they might just do wonders!”

Hearing this, Zhang Fenglin simply nodded without commenting.

Zhang was the most obsessed with and researched angling among the three, having a deep understanding of all bait materials, configurations, and the combinations thereof.

Beyond just baits, Zhang had personally experimented with various things found in the market, including small doses of medicine, medicinal wines, musk wine, clove wine, and all sorts of other trendy stuff.

However, in practical fishing, not many were effective consistently.

Nodding without commenting or making a statement didn’t mean Zhang agreed with what Liu Fengnian said; it was more out of respect and not wanting to contradict him, essentially not taking it seriously at heart.

But the fishing that followed taught Zhang a solid lesson with the effects of the bait.

Two batches of bait made from identical materials, one with a few drops of wine and the other just with plain water, showed a significant difference in attractiveness to fish during actual fishing.

The bait with musk wine had a very evident effect in attracting fish; after casting about a dozen times, the fishing spot started to boil with activity.

Switching to the other bait, achieving the same level of fish gathering was difficult, desperately yanking for a good while before just barely catching up, the efficiency was more than halved in comparison.

The difference in attracting fish was apparent, as was the observable difference in the actions shown by the float.

With alcohol added, the bites were aggressive and voracious, with a slight nibble followed by a powerful tug.

If the rod wasn’t lifted then, the float would soon be dragged away or pulled up, presenting a complete dead-drift pattern.

In contrast, the bait with nothing added was much choosier; the action was visibly more fleshy, the bait swallowing and flicking actions were very skillful, showing a clear slight pause but failing to hook when the rod was lifted.

Slightly delaying the action meant no more movement, and upon lifting the rod, it was found that the bait had been stripped off by the fish.

“Really, the difference is quite noticeable!” After testing for a while, Zhang Fenglin personally overturned his initial opinion.

“Convinced now?

I told you and you didn’t believe it.

Yue, later you can get a bottle for brother Zhang.

This stuff is really good!” Liu Fengnian laughed heartily, casually delegating the task to Yue Feng.

Yue Feng wasn’t stingy at all, immediately opening his fishing box and taking out another small bottle of musk wine, handing it to Zhang Fenglin.

“Give this bottle a try!”

“Alright, I’ll study it.

Did you add any medicinal herbs to this musk wine?

I’ve tried similar things before, but never got consistent results, yours is amazing!”

“Heh heh, just lucky, just lucky!” Yue Feng scratched his head, laughing somewhat foolishly to himself.

As the two elders and the younger one chatted in a corner, tinkering with the bait and musk wine and testing out rods, the entrance of Star Moon Lake roared with the engines of several ostentatious “luxury cars” driving in.
