First-Year Internship—And You Went to Site 749 to Contain Monsters?! -
Chapter 213: I Don’t Accept This—F*** That, I Ain’t Accepting a Single Bit of It
......
Bai Fengtang, who had been calm earlier, couldn’t keep his cool anymore.
“Big Brother, that’s not right. Wait? How long are we supposed to wait? So what, they’re not your kids? You don’t care at all?”
No matter what, they’re his own son and daughter, not someone picked up off the street.
Now there’s no word from them, and Bai Fengtang, as their father, hears they’re supposed to just wait?
Getting emotional, he said,
“What if something happens? Wouldn’t we miss the best time to rescue them? They’re your own nephew and niece!”
Bai Fengjing turned around to face Bai Fengtang, patting his own palm with the back of his other hand:
“Then what do you suggest? Go charge up Ba’er Mountain in defiance of the 749 Bureau?”
“That area’s restricted. You go in, they might not say anything, but that doesn’t mean you can treat it like your backyard.”“Remember this—final interpretation rights over restricted areas belong to the 749 Bureau. You try to force your way in, and if they kill you inside, then f*** it, they’re still in the right.”
“You still wanna go or not!?”
By the end, Bai Fengjing had walked right up and was yelling in his face.
It’s because he’s got this kind of brain that he can manage things for the Bai Family outside.
Not just because he’s the eldest.
Bai Fengtang’s momentum was crushed. He was at a loss for words.
He turned to his mother and called out, “Mom, look at Big Brother.”
“Enough!”
Madam stepped forward.
Only then did Bai Fengjing back off a step, shooting Bai Fengtang a glare of disdain.
Then he said, “Mom, I know you’re worried about Baoce and Baolian, but now’s really not the time to go head-on with 749.”
“And yet you were all cocky expanding earlier,” Bai Fengtang cut in.
That did it—Bai Fengjing snapped.
“If you’re not gonna use your brain, then just shut it. Don’t be wobbling around all day, half-stupid and not even fully functioning like a normal person!”
“The reason I was bold in expanding earlier was because their attitude wasn’t tough. If something happened, we could talk it out—you could feel that.”
“But now it’s obvious—they’re not negotiating.”
“They’ve got a revolver to your head and you’re still betting the next round’s a blank, huh!?”
After that, he looked toward the now-darkened face of Madam.
“Mom, don’t worry yet. Here’s what I’ll do—I'll go talk to Guan Long from 749.”
“Compared to others, he’s a bit easier to deal with. Maybe I can get some info out of him.”
“That way we can figure out what’s really going on up there on Ba’er Mountain.”
As for Guan Long, Madam did know a bit. In some ways, he didn’t really qualify as a competent investigator.
Thinking of this,
Madam nodded. “Alright. Go ask first.”
Bai Fengjing turned and left immediately, not dragging his feet one bit.
He pulled his phone from his bag and made a call.
It got cut off immediately.
Then a message came in:
[Toothache. What’s up?]
Bai Fengjing was a bit confused—how could someone at Guan Long’s level still have a toothache?
But that thought vanished in a flash.
He sent another message:
[Coach Guan, what are you up to today? I just got a batch of fine liquor—wanna come try it?]
[Time and place.]
Seeing that reply, a smile crept onto Bai Fengjing’s face.
He sent the time and place, then rushed over.
Ten minutes later.
They met at the most high-end club in Xitong City.
As soon as they met, Bai Fengjing was stunned by Guan Long’s appearance today.
His head was wrapped in white gauze, reeking of medicine.
He quickly stepped forward to support him: “Whoa, Coach Guan, what happened to you??”
Guan Long waved it off after sitting down: “Don’t ask. It’s embarrassing. So where’s the good liquor you mentioned?”
Seeing him go straight to the point, Bai Fengjing didn’t waste words either.
He took out a gift box and handed it over.
“Take a look. Top-quality stuff.”
Guan Long accepted it, opened a corner to take a peek, the aroma wafting out. He weighed it in his hand.
“Not bad. Has heft. Alright, what kind of appetizer you fishing for?”
Bai Fengjing leaned in closer and asked in a low voice:
“My second brother’s kids, Baoce and Baolian, lost contact on Ba’er Mountain. I heard you were up there today too. Are they...”
That instantly brought back memories of an ugly scene earlier for Guan Long.
He took a deep breath.
Bai Fengjing’s face turned serious, waiting for a response.
BANG—Guan Long slammed his palm on the table.
“Bai Fengjing, you fing messing with me? You don’t know what your precious niece and nephew are like!?”
“You got the nerve to bring them up? Huh!? Answer me!!?”
“F’s sake, I told Bai Baolian to wait, wait for the group to go together. What’d she do? Took Cha Yuanzheng and went on up by herself!”
“Straight into Ba’er Mountain—vanished. Nowhere to be found.”
“All this crap!!”
As he spoke, Guan Long got increasingly agitated, pointing to his injured face.
“See this? See it!? This happened because I couldn’t find your darling niece and nephew.”
“Wei Hong wanted to leave. I said no, let’s keep searching. You know I don’t get along with him. That set us off—we clashed, and he beat the s**t out of me!!”
“And now you got the balls to bring them up to me? I should be asking you—what the hell were they running up there for!?”
“What, their dad up there? Their mom? Ran off and now they’re hiding somewhere, can’t be found!!”
As he ranted, Guan Long lifted the gift in his hand.
“And you think you can fob me off with this!?”
“Testing me, huh? Who the f*** can pass a test like this!?”
With that, he hurled the gift aside, completely losing it.
Only then did Bai Fengjing realize—
Reasonable!
If he really got beat up by Wei Hong, it all made perfect sense.
He raised a hand, circulated some qi, and brought the item back from the floor, placing it in front of Guan Long again.
“Much appreciated. Come on, name your price.”
Guan Long shot him a look and held up five fingers.
Bai Fengjing fell silent. “That’s a bit much, no?”
That line hit Guan Long’s nerves again.
“Too much!!? I got beat half to death because of your precious niece and nephew, and you say it’s too much?”
He even pulled out the tooth that Lu Ding had knocked out of his mouth and showed it off:
“See that? Lost a damn tooth!”
Bai Fengjing looked—yep, that was one nasty beating.
But now a bigger problem:
Where did Baolian and Baoce go?
No good. Gotta go back and talk to Mom again.
He got up. “I’ll have the stuff sent to your place later. Gotta head back for now.”
Guan Long waved him off. “Go, go, just be quick about it!”
“Don’t worry.”
Bai Fengjing walked out of the private room. It wasn’t until much later that—
Guan Long opened a bottle of liquor for himself, poured a glass, and tossed his tooth in to soak.
Then he lifted the glass and drained it in one go, spitting the tooth back into his palm.
“The Bai Family’s about to go down. Gotta grab as much as I can now—won’t be any left to grab later.”
As he mumbled, he held the tooth up to the light, examining it over and over.
“Even if this isn’t over yet, I still know whose rice I’m eating, whose clothes I’m wearing...”
“You just wait. I don’t accept this. F*** that, I ain’t accepting a single bit of it.”
Sure, Guan Long might be greedy and his hands not exactly clean,
But he did understand one thing:
What happens in the Bureau, the Bureau decides. What happens outside, stays outside.
Small issues? Blow ’em up—ask for money. Big problems? Make stuff up—still ask for money.
Good thing Lu Ding wasn’t there to see all this.
If he had, he’d have thought to himself: Damn right. There really are tons of scumbags in Xitong’s 749 Bureau.
And sure enough—Bai Fengjing just got stuck with one.
