First-Year Internship—And You Went to Site 749 to Contain Monsters?!
Chapter 17: Should I Tear You Apart or Carve You Up?

The Jeep’s headlights shone directly ahead, forcing Ling Gu to instinctively raise her hand to shield her eyes.

She had never expected that someone would travel such a long distance just because of an offhanded threat—just to kill her.

But Ma Qi reacted in time.

“Ling Gu!!”

With a loud shout, he crashed sideways into her, using a well-timed push to send Ling Gu flying out of the way. The Jeep, which was originally about to slam into her, instead rammed straight into Ma Qi’s stomach.

Because of his towering stature, he instinctively leaned upward to absorb some of the impact.

But the moment the Jeep hit him, Ma Qi was sent crashing headfirst into the windshield.

Through the shattered glass, he saw the face of a young man—handsome yet blazing with unrestrained fury.

“You like taking hits for others, huh?!”

Lu Ding was fuming. That hit should’ve either killed the woman or left her severely injured. But this bald brute had stepped in at the last second and messed everything up.

That pissed him off.

Without hesitation, he reached out, grabbed Ma Qi by his bald head, and yanked him through the broken windshield into the car. Then, his fists rained down like a storm, each punch carrying tens of thousands of pounds of force.

The "Pagoda Arhat" had no chance to fight back.

His legendary iron body—usually indestructible—was nothing but paper under Lu Ding’s fists.

Even Wen Yuquan’s blade hadn’t hurt this much before.

Every punch shattered bones and crushed organs.

Blood and shredded flesh sprayed from Ma Qi’s mouth nonstop.

He struggled, but it was useless. It felt like a mountain was crushing him.

From the driver’s seat, Yan Feifan didn’t care who was who—if Lu Ding was fighting, so was he.

Out of nowhere, he pulled out a short blade and started hacking at Ma Qi’s lower body, slashing, stabbing, and cutting.

Blood gushed.

Ling Gu, still dazed from being shoved away, had just gotten her bearings when she heard Ma Qi’s agonized screams from inside the car.

“Go!! Ling Gu, run!! It’s an ambush!!! AHHH!!!”

At the same time, Wen Yuquan and Yin Feng had already arrived.

Ling Gu’s eyes turned red with fury, but she had no choice—she gritted her teeth and retreated.

By the time Wen Yuquan and Yin Feng reached the Jeep, the shaking had stopped.

They saw broken glass scattered on the ground and blood splattered from inside the vehicle.

Exchanging glances, they both saw confusion in each other’s eyes.

No backup was supposed to come here.

There was no way they’d finished capturing the other Tianli Cult members this fast.

What the hell was going on?

Yin Feng tilted his head, trying to peek inside.

But just as he stepped forward—

Bang!

Both side doors of the Jeep swung open simultaneously.

Lu Ding and Yan Feifan stepped out, covered in blood.

“Pfft, damn, he’s tough as hell. Hard to kill too. Got his blood in my mouth,” Yan Feifan spat, shaking his now-dulled short blade.

On the other side, Lu Ding casually tossed aside a severed arm he had ripped off during the fight.

Sniffing the air, he tracked the lingering scent of the woman, determining which direction she had fled.

“Lu—”

Yan Feifan had just opened his mouth to call out “Lu-ge,”

but then he noticed the two stunned men standing in front of the Jeep.

Their eyes moved from the weapons in Lu Ding and Yan Feifan’s hands to the stars on their shoulders.

Yan Feifan immediately straightened up. “Ah! Greetings, senior investigators!”

Lu Ding had already sensed them long ago—he just couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge them.

They were on the same side anyway, and from the looks of it, they were also after that woman.

As for pleasantries?

Only someone like Yan Feifan would bother with that.

Although he was only an Intern Investigator, he had the same priority level as a Formal Investigator.

Technically, they were equals.

“Enough talk. Yan Feifan, check if your car is still drivable. I’m going after that woman. Be careful—I’ll call for you later.”

After confirming the direction, Lu Ding leapt onto the rooftops and took off in pursuit of Ling Gu.

“Lu-ge! Lu-ge, wait for me!”

Yan Feifan was about to chase after him when—

“Hold it right there!” Yin Feng snapped, stopping him in his tracks.

This was insane!

Two Intern Investigators had not only run over Pagoda Arhat Ma Qi with a Jeep but had also dragged him inside and practically torn him apart?!

His Pagoda Arhat title wasn’t for show—his massive physique, iron body, and Buddhist martial arts background made him nearly bulletproof.

Yet someone had just ripped his arm off?

This was beyond absurd.

Even Wen Yuquan had only managed to give Ma Qi a scratch with his blade earlier.

These are just Intern Investigators?

Are you f**ing kidding me?

Had something crazy happened at the base while they were gone?

They’d only been away on missions for half a month—when did these guys level up behind their backs without them?!

Yan Feifan grinned. “What’s up, senior?”

Yin Feng hesitated, then asked, “Uh... what’s your cultivation level?”

“Aperture-Unlocking.”

“What about him?” Yin Feng pointed in the direction Lu Ding had gone.

Yan Feifan smirked. “Lu-ge took an Aperture-Unlocking Pill, so he’s at least Zhaoxuan Realm.

“Perfect Assessor?!” Yin Feng gasped.

That still didn’t make sense! Even Perfect Assessors weren’t supposed to be this strong.

Was Lu Ding from this month’s assessment?

If so, then Yin Feng had missed it since he hadn’t returned to base yet.

But if that was the case, how could a freshly assessed investigator already have this level of combat power?

This was ridiculous.

What did that make the rest of them?

Had they been cultivating all this time for nothing?

“And he...”

Seeing that Yin Feng was about to keep asking, Yan Feifan got impatient.

“Senior, enough questions. Aren’t you supposed to be chasing that woman?”

“Ah—right,” Yin Feng muttered.

“Then let’s go. Lu-ge is after her too. If you don’t hurry, you’ll only have her corpse to bring back.”

“What do you mean?” Wen Yuquan asked.

Yan Feifan answered casually, “She threatened Lu-ge. He’s probably going to tear her apart.”

At that, the two immediately sprang into action, leaping onto the rooftops.

Yan Feifan followed right behind.

Outside Baiyao Ancient Town, deep in the forest—

Ling Gu fled frantically, fear gripping her heart.

The presence behind her was getting closer and closer.

Who the hell is this guy?!

He looked familiar, but she had gone over the list of famous 749 Bureau investigators in her head, and none of them matched.

Was he not from 749?

Did she have some past grudge with him?

Thinking quickly, she turned her head and called out, “Little brother, maybe there’s been some misunderstanding between us?”

But when she glanced back, she saw nothing.

Lu Ding was gone.

Wind—!

The moment the sound reached her ears, her arms instinctively moved to block.

But as soon as she felt the force, it was as if she had been hit by a truck.

A monstrous impact sent her flying, slamming her into a massive tree.

Blood gushed from her mouth.

One of her arms twisted grotesquely, broken beyond recognition.

Her organs screamed in pain.

Lu Ding landed in front of her, squatting slightly, a grin on his face.

“Misunderstanding? There’s no misunderstanding here. You sure forget things fast. You just threatened me earlier, didn’t you? Said you’d remember my aura?”

His eyes narrowed. “Well? I’m standing right here. Can’t you sense me now?”

Ling Gu’s pupils shrank.

“You’re the one who broke my spell?!”

She lashed out with her fingers, aiming for Lu Ding’s eyes.

But before she could reach him—

A breeze passed.

Her arm shattered into tiny chunks of flesh, scattering across the ground.

A woman’s scream echoed through the forest.

“You made me run all this way... I thought you were some kind of supernatural beast,” Lu Ding said, his voice dripping with disappointment.

“But turns out—you’re just a person.”

He grinned, tilting his head.

“So... should I tear you apart, or carve you up?”
