Chapter 2205 - The Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity

Many of Su Yi’s powerful enemies had attempted to intercept him on his way to the God Domain via the Road of Celestial Guidance.

Luo Qingdi and Luo Xuanji had risked their lives, ready to fight to the bitter end if need be, just to create an opening for Su Yi to escape.

Su Yi had lost contact with the Luo Siblings since. He didn’t even know whether they were alive or dead.

Now, when he saw Luo Qingdi’s portrait, Su Yi was surprised, but more than that, he heaved a sigh of relief. I’m just... glad he’s still alive.

“Do you perhaps recognize him, Deacon Xiao?” Huang Changting asked out of nowhere. He’d just noticed that Su Yi was looking at the portrait a bit strangely.

“I don’t.” Su Yi shook his head.

“Oh,” said Huang Changting. “But then, of course you don’t. That man is an extremely terrifying existence. Only Master Gods can defeat him. How could you possibly be acquainted with him?”

The others were instantly horrified. Just what kind of person is our target, that lofty Master Gods are needed to take him down!?

“Palace Master, just who is that man?” one of the Wandering Night Gods couldn’t help but ask.

“He’s one of that criminal Su Yi’s Dao Protectors, and he’s stronger than even most Master Gods!” said Huang Changting. “However, he was badly injured on the Road of Celestial Guidance. They say that only a battered wisp of his soul remains. He’s like a whipped dog, and all he can do is hide and gasp for breath.

“Come on, let’s head out. I’ll explain our mission in further detail on the way.

With that, Huang Changting turned and left the hall. The others followed.

That very day, Huang Changting boarded a treasure ship with Su Yi, Qian Hu, and the three Wandering Night Gods. The six of them left Qingwu Divine Court and set course for the Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity.

......

Aboard the Treasure Ship.

Su Yi sank into thought.

Qingwu Divine Court wasn’t the only faction involved in this mission targeting Luo Qingdi.

Several of the Southern Flame Divine Continent’s other top factions were involved too, like the Severed Heavens Demon Court, Nine Profundities Yao Court, and Donghua Sword Pavilion.

These top factions had already taken action, and furthermore, they’d commanded their subordinate factions to seal off the entrance to the Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity.

There were even numerous Master Gods present to oversee the situation!

Two of Qingwu Divine Court’s Master Gods had left for the mountains the day before.

Huang Changting and the other gods of Wandering Night Palace were here as scouts. They were to enter the mountains and search for leads.

Their only job was to track Luo Qingdi down. When they did, it would be up to the Master Gods to defeat him!

Su Yi furrowed his brow. It seems that Luo Qingdi’s injuries are quite severe. Otherwise, given his abilities, it would be easy to prevent others from discovering him. Yet now, he’s been trapped in the Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity. Things aren’t looking optimistic...

Meanwhile, Huang Changting and Qian Hu were conversing not far away.

“Vice Palace Master, you’re saying we’ll receive a greater merit regardless of whether we succeed or fail?”

“That’s right. After all, we’re risking our lives to enter the Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity. Whether we contribute or not, we deserve a reward for our efforts.”

All of them ignored Su Yi. Not one of them paid any attention to him.

Su Yi didn’t mind. He was busy pondering how to save Luo Qingdi when they reached the Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity!

A day later.

It was late, and night was fast approaching.

The group stopped before the Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity. Huang Changting led them to see Qingwu Divine Court’s two Master Gods.

One was a short old man with gray hair but youthful features. The other was a tall, thin man in black robes and a tall hat.

Their names were Rong Yue and Li Shanming. Both were high elders, and both were Five-Tribulation Undying Realm Master Gods! NovelFire

Among Master Gods, they weren’t the best, but they were both truly ancient and powerful.

“You must be careful as you carry out your mission. The moment you encounter danger, crush these talismans,” ordered the smooth-faced High Elder Rong Yue.

“Understood!” Huang Changting nodded with the utmost respect.

Just as he was about to lead Su Yi, Qian Hu, and the others away, Li Shanming spoke for the first time. “Are you Xiao Jian?” He fixed his cold gaze on Su Yi.

“I am,” said Su Yi. “What can I do for you, Ancestor?”

“You’re the one who defeated my useless grandson, Li Xiaoyun?” Li Shanming said hoarsely.

“I am.” Su Yi nodded.

Li Shanming fell briefly silent. He gazed intently at Su Yi, then said, “Make sure you return alive from this expedition. I would just hate for something to happen to a promising young Torch Dragon like you in the Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity.”

With that, he waved them away. “Go on.”

“Yes, High Elder.” Su Yi clasped his fist, then followed Huang Changting and the others into the mountains.

“Congratulations, Deacon Xiao. Ancestor Shanming is actually concerned about wellbeing; that’s fortune few are blessed enough to enjoy,” Qian Hu said with a laugh. His eyes shone with sadistic glee.

Su Yi calmly disregarded him. He’d never liked arguing. If anything happened, he’d just attack and be done with it.

But there was no denying that High Elder Li Shanming’s attitude left ample food for thought. He seemed... to have a rather different view of Su Yi!

“We’re about to enter the mountains. Be careful, everyone!” Huang Changting said gravely. “No matter what happens, you’re to follow my orders. If anyone dares act recklessly, don’t blame me for my poor manners!”

The group was instantly solemn. All of them nodded.

The Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity were enormous, and they seemed to stretch endlessly into the distance.

This was one of the most infamous places in the entire Southern Flame Divine Continent. Countless gods had lost their lives here throughout the ages!

It was dusk, and night would soon set in. The sky over the mountains was enshrouded in dense, baleful black mist.

From time to time, strange, blood-colored lightning flashed overhead, illuminating the mountains in crimson radiance. It was an unsettling sight.

The experts of numerous peak factions had long since sealed the entrance to the mountains off. There were even multiple Master Gods here to oversee things.

There were also several dozen groups much like theirs currently in the mountains. All were serving as scouts.

Two hours later, the group found themselves in a barren valley shrouded in silvery fog that obscured the night sky.

Upon closer inspection, the fog was emanating from a stalk of divine medicine. It looked like a tree, but it was only about a foot tall. The whole tree was silver, and its branches were like twisted serpents. A single flower as radiant as the full moon sprouted from the top.

The flower’s stamen emanated silvery fog and radiance, as well as a floral fragrance. It had a holy, pure charm about it.

“Fortune Realm divine medicine!” Qian Hu’s eyes blazed, and he licked his lips, practically drooling.

“Don’t do anything reckless! A place where divine treasures grow is always home to hidden dangers,” said Huang Changting.

He suddenly looked at Su Yi. “Deacon Xiao, go pick that divine medicine.”

Qian Hu couldn’t help but look gleeful. The three Wandering Night Gods’ expressions turned strange, too.

“Rest assured that if anything dangerous happens, I’ll help you resolve it. I absolutely won’t let anything happen to you,” Huang Changting said comfortingly.

Su Yi just laughed and walked over to the medicine, then casually pulled it up by the roots.

Huang Changting, Qian Hu, and the others were ready and waiting in case anything dangerous happened, but to their astonishment, nothing happened whatsoever.

“What... what’s going on here?” Qian Hu was a bit stunned.

“What, don’t tell me you wanted something to happen to me?” Su Yi glanced at him.

Qian Hu’s expression froze, and he frowned. “All of us are sectmates. How could I possibly just stand back and watch as something happened to you?”

Su Yi just laughed, then tossed the stalk of divine medicine to Huang Changting. “The medicine you wanted, Vice Palace Master.”

Huang Changting had acquired a stalk of divine medicine without incident. He should have been happy, but his expression was unsightly.

Because Su Yi had tossed him the medicine as if he were tossing alms to a beggar. It was a severe affront to his dignity!

“Then I’ll just have to thank you, Deacon Xiao!” Huang Changting took a deep breath and smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “I think highly of you!”

With that, he raised his hand to pat Su Yi on the shoulder, like a senior encouraging a junior.

However, Su Yi subtly shifted positions, avoiding his touch. “We’re sectmates, so you needn’t thank me. We cannot afford any delays, so we’d best keep going.”

Huang Changting’s hand froze in midair. The awkwardness would have been obvious to anyone!

“Very well.” Huang Changting slowly lowered his hand. His eyes flashed with murderous light. “Let’s continue.”

He was already leading his way into the distance.

“Deacon Xiao, you’ve deeply offended the vice palace master. You’d best be careful on the road ahead,” Qian Hu transmitted with a sinister grin.

Su Yi ignored him.

The three Night Wandering Gods remained silently. They wisely decided against getting involved in this invisible standoff.

They couldn’t afford to offend Huang Changting and Qian Hu, but they couldn’t afford to offend Xiao Jian, either. There was no room for them to get involved.

Not long after they left, a Human-Faced Bluebird appeared out of nowhere. She was indeed Master Goddess Hui Qing of Qingwu Divine Court, one of Hua Hongzhen’s old servants!

She flew over to the spot where Su Yi had picked that medicine, looked it over, then raised her right claw and struck the ground.

Bang!!

The earth collapsed with a spray of dirt, revealing a catacomb and a massive corpse.

The bird raised her claws, pulling the corpse out of the catacomb. It belonged to a beast reminiscent of a python. Its entire body was covered in dense, blood-red scales.

It had no external wounds, but its soul had been instantly snuffed out!

This Baleful Blood Demon Python was comparable to a Mid-Rank God, yet that kid destroyed its soul before it could even react! The Human-Faced Bluebird’s eyes filled with astonishment. Is such power really possible for a Lesser God?

It’s just as Ku Zhen said. That kid really is hiding something!

Her eyes flashed with cold light. Let’s see how much you let slip this time, kid! And if there’s really a problem... don’t blame this lofty one for eradicating you!

With that, she beat her wings and vanished in a flash.
