Chapter 496: Chapter 496: How Long Have You Been Married?

The two women started chatting, and later, even found chairs to sit and talk.

As for the two men, they were awkwardly making conversation—thank goodness Xiao Mingming was there to ease the tension.

"Uncle, Uncle, let’s catch butterflies."

Jiang Ye didn’t want to continue making forced conversation:

"Sure."

So he took Xiao Mingming to catch butterflies.

As for Xiao Mingming’s father, he could only silently follow.

He had been genuinely scared, almost thinking he couldn’t find his child, so now he never let his child out of his sight.

Lu Jing and Mingming’s mother saw that the men were handling the kids quite well.

"Let’s go buy some water," suggested Mingming’s mother.

Lu Jing nodded:

"Sure."

That afternoon, the two families stayed together.

By five o’clock, Daddy Mingming suggested treating Lu Jing and Jiang Ye to dinner as a gesture of thanks.

The two men initially didn’t want to accept, but Mingming’s parents kept inviting them, and to refuse further would have hurt their feelings.

"Okay then."

When Lu Jing reluctantly agreed, the couple was thrilled:

"Lu Lu, what do you like to eat?"

"Anything is fine."

Such responses really make it hard to choose.

But Mingming’s mother was quite adept:

"Then let’s have Chinese food."

Chinese food was more suitable for everyone, pick what you want to eat.

Options like hotpot are too limiting.

Not everyone likes hotpot either.

There was a large Chinese restaurant right in the park, and since both families lived nearby, it was convenient for them to walk home afterward.

The little guy seemed really taken with Lu Jing; he insisted on being carried by Lu Jing all the way to the restaurant, not even wanting his parents.

"Mingming, would you like to go home with your auntie tonight?"

"Yes, yes, yes."

He didn’t hesitate?

Even his parents were surprised,

"This kid never agrees to go with someone else!" his father said.

Lu Jing just laughed:

"So, it’s settled then?"

The little guy nodded emphatically:

"Yes!"

That "yes" really amused everyone.

When they reached the Chinese restaurant, they didn’t choose a private room but sat outside on the terrace, with heaters around, so it wasn’t cold.

Once seated, Mingming’s mother leaned over and whispered in Lu Jing’s ear:

"You better be careful with children sticking to you like this."

???

"Eh?"

What does that mean?

I can understand each word on its own, but together I’m lost.

Just then, Mingming’s mother suddenly pointed at Lu Jing’s belly:

"Before I was pregnant with Mingming, the neighbor’s child used to cling to me like this."

Oh.

Finally, I understood.

Lu Jing subconsciously covered her belly:

"That shouldn’t have any scientific basis, right?"

As a doctor, she knew very well that medically, it was impossible!

But inside, Lu Jing was hopeful.

And she really hoped what Mingming’s mother said would come true.

She had been longing for a child for far too long.

"Scientific facts are important, but old wives’ tales aren’t necessarily unreliable."

There was some sense in those words.

Lu Jing smiled:

"Fair point, I’ll take your good luck wish then."

"How long have you been married?"

"Not long, we got our license less than a month ago, but we’ve been together for a long time."

The license wasn’t really important to either of them.

Mingming’s mother nodded:

"That’s good, you have a strong emotional foundation. That’s promising for a lasting relationship. Unlike Daddy Mingming and me, who met through a marriage arrangement without any emotional foundation."
