Fight, Flight, or Freeze: The Healer's Story
Chapter 350: One Thing At A Time

Chapter 350: One Thing At A Time

A week had passed since we had left the military base with the Alpha still hanging from the cage I had made. I would love to say that we had all been productive, that the people we brought with us were already planting fields and tearing down buildings, but that would have been a lie.

A fucking week had passed since we arrived at the outside of City D and took our first breath of freedom. Not like they weren’t free in City A, but with the rings and how everything had been laid out, this was a much different feeling.

Honestly, a week sounds like a long time. Seven days, 168 hours, 10,080 minutes, and I have no idea how many seconds. And in that week, we did nothing. The majority of us didn’t even leave our rooms in the hotel except to use the outhouse that one of the earth power users had dug for us.

We slept, we cooked what food we had, and we nodded to our neighbors, getting to know one another without fear guiding our every move.

And it was a glorious week.

But now, I was going stir-crazy.

"Let’s see what type of supplies we can find," I said suddenly. The nine of us were on the two queen-sized beds that we had pushed together, and Wang Chang Ming was lying on my chest as Fan Teng Fei played with my hair, talking softly to the other guys.

There was no music or no television to keep us entertained, so the guys were literally just shooting the shit and trading stories. It was nice not to be fighting for my left in some way or another every minute of the day.

But now I was bored.

"Where do you want to go?" Bai Long Qiang asked, looking up from where he was draped over the foot of our bed.

"Home," I replied with a sigh. "I want to go home and see if it is still standing after all this time."

"Are you prepared if it is not?" murmured Fan Teng Fei as he continued to run his fingers through my hair. I was starting to feel something inside of me stir every time one of the men touched me, and truth be told, it made me happy.

I had secretly begun to fear that something inside of me had broken that couldn’t be fixed. I never had a high sexual libido, I could normally take it or leave it, but after the EMP hit, it was like... nothing.

I didn’t feel desire; the whole idea of having sex was tiring... or frightening..., and I was just not interested.

Now that I think about it, it was probably the best test of the guy’s’ intentions toward me since not a single one of them pushed me for more than I was comfortable with. Kissing and cuddling seemed fine with them.

But now that my brain was telling me it was safe... I wanted to do more.

"I think that no matter where we are, as long as we are together, that is good enough. With enough time, we could make a new home for all of us," murmured Ye Yao Zu as he rolled over and looked at me.

He and Bin An Sha had taken up residence on either side of me while Si Dong sat on the floor at the foot of the bed and Rip leaned against the door. The two of them had been worried that Alpha would come barreling in at any time.

Maybe I should have just killed him.

But what do I do with Wang Chang Ming? Does it make me a bad parent to leave him here with Zhao Jun Jie and the others to look after him while I go home and maybe... do more?

This whole parenting thing was throwing me for a loop, but holy crap was the entire parent guilt an actual thing.

"Chang Ming, would you be okay staying here with Uncle Zhai Jun Jie?" Si Dong asked, rising to his feet.

The child on my chest nodded his head. "I don’t want to leave the hotel right now," he murmured, burrowing his face in my breasts. "You go ahead, and when our home is all ready, you can come back and get me."

I smoothed his hair with my hand, giving thanks that even though he was still so young, he was much more mature than anyone else I had ever met at his age.

"We’ll make it the best house possible," I whispered to him, kissing him on the head. "And even if it isn’t the home that I am thinking about, I will find one that will have everything possible."

"All I need is you and the daddies," shrugged Chang Ming, once again showing how perfect he was. "But if it can have toys, a purple room, and a pool, then I would be extra happy."

I blinked rapidly at his request.

"You know that your mother will try to give you everything that you want, but right now, let’s just concentrate on what you need. We might not have paint to make a room purple, but we might be able to give you purple curtains or purple bedding," grunted Rip, his arms across his chest as he narrowed his eyes on the boy.

I could see Chang Ming think about it for a second before nodding his head. "Purple is my favorite color, so anything purple would be great."

"Then let’s go see Uncle Zhao, and then we can find you a home. Sounds good?" I asked as the men started to roll out of bed, giving me plenty of room to move.

"Okay! He was teaching me how to write my name. Do you think he could teach me even more?" cried Chang Ming excitedly as he quickly got off me and stood impatiently by the door.

Frig, that was something I had forgotten. Of course, we would need to find teachers and set up a school of some kind. It was on my mind, but now I don’t know if it was only part of the vision that I had where I thought about what to do with the school and hospital or if it was in real life?

Either way, it was now officially on the list of things to do.

With a groan, I rolled out of bed and got to my feet. One thing at a time, and eventually, everything will get done.
