Chapter 324: The Choice Is Yours

Chapter 324: The Choice Is Yours

"Little pig, little pig, let me in," joked Si Dong as he pounded on the front door of the Retribution Guild. But instead of the usual glass doors that greeted us, everything was covered with wood. The barrier practically vibrated with life as it absorbed Si Dong’s knocks.

Which was pretty good if you think about it. I didn’t think that the head of the Retribution Guild and the White Tiger Syndicate would enjoy being called a little pig. But it was just a theory.

Gently nudging him to the side, I placed my hand on the door and felt the bark beneath my hand welcome me.

Within seconds, the tree withdrew, leaving only the glass doors once again.

On the other side, I could see an entire army of humans, their weapons raised, as they looked at me and then the zombies behind me.

Maybe I should have gotten them to back up?

Hu Wen Cheng came forward, and I let out a sigh of relief as soon as I saw him. He managed to get back in time. He was safe.

"Morning," I smiled, waving my hand. I doubt he could hear me, but he could at least get the idea that I was happy... right?

Unlocking the door, Hu Wen Cheng briefly looked over my shoulder before turning his complete attention to me.

"I think you were a cat in your last life. I swear to god, it’s like you have nine lives," hissed the man as he pulled me into a hug. "Are you safe?"

"Completely," I assured him, returning his hug briefly before pulling back. I still wasn’t a fan of touching people, but he was one of the few exceptions to that rule. "Made a deal with the zombie alpha."

"Fucking hell," sighed Hu Wen Cheng as he stepped back and gave everyone room to come inside. Even the Alpha took the invitation, utterly unconcerned that it might be a trap.

Then again, we might be about a hundred people against his thousands of zombies, so if it came down to a fight...

Well, let’s admit it. It wouldn’t be a fight. It would be a slaughter.

"What happened to you? How the hell did you end up tied to a stake and offered up on a silver platter for the zombies? No offense, of course," grunted Hu Wen Cheng, just realizing at the end that he might have pissed off the zombies.

"The intelligence of a mob," I shrugged, not really getting into it. Was there a point? They were all dead; there was no one to complain about or plot revenge against. Not like I would.

"What about Wu Bai Hee?" asked Zhao Jun Jie, stepping forward with Xi Feng strapped to his chest. I had no idea where he had found a baby carrier, but it worked.

"I heard that someone found her body before everything went down; her throat was slit," I shrugged, but when both Bai Long Qiang and Hu Wen Cheng stiffened, I raised an eyebrow in question.

"That’s the signature of the Butcher," grunted Hu Wen Cheng, tilting his head back and forth as if he were trying to get rid of some pent-up tension in his neck.

Massage therapists, people, we need them!

"The Butcher?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. The name sounded familiar, but I had no idea where I had heard it before.

"He’s talking about Liu Hao Yu," muttered Bai Long Qiang in my ear. "He was referred to as the Butcher of the Bay."

"Right," I nodded. "And Hu Wen Cheng would know that because they were all syndicates. But how did he get in and out without anyone noticing?"

"The guy literally controls time. I don’t think it would be that big of a deal for him to just stop everything and get around that way," snorted Fan Teng Fei as he went to look out one of the windows.

"Time," grunted the Alpha, and I knew he was reminding me that we were on limited time with him.

"Right," I said, clapping my hands together. "I am going to rebuild City D. City A has fallen and is now a zombie-run city. For those who want to come, we will be leaving in the next few hours. Grab what you can and meet us at the front gate. Those who don’t that is fine too, but you can’t stay here. The choice is yours."

Truthfully, they could stay here in City A, but then there would be nothing more than food, and I don’t think that anyone wanted that. Then again, maybe they did. Who was I to judge?

"We are already packed and ready to go," said Zhao Jun Jie as he went behind Lai Dan Dan’s desk, grabbed an oversized hiking backpack, and put it on.

Well, that was easy.

"I’m going, too," grunted Hu Wen Cheng. "You’ll need a guild in the city."

"I’ll go, too," said Chang Guo Zi, stepping forward from the crowd. However, he refused to meet my eyes. "I’ll let my teammates make their own decisions, but there is nothing left for me here. Might as well start over and help build the new world.

Woah... no one said anything about building a new world, I just wanted to go back home, and this was the only way to do it.

But I wouldn’t stop them if that was what they wanted to do. Country K had hit rock bottom, and none of us had heard from the Leader or anyone else from the government, so the only way we could go was up.

More and more people agreed to come with us until everyone inside the lobby had said that they were coming. Not a single person wanted to make it out there on their own. Not even Jia Yu Sheng or Fang Ting Guang.

But it took all kinds of people to make the world go round, so all were welcome, I guess.

And just because I wanted to see City D rebuilt didn’t mean that I wanted to run it when it was all said and done. I was still going to live inside of my bunker with the rest of the guys. I had more than enough of the outside to last me years.

I looked at Zhao Jun Jie and narrowed my eyes.

"I don’t like that look," he grunted, shielding Xi Feng from my gaze.

"Don’t worry. I have plans for you," I smiled back sweetly at him.

"That’s what I’m scared of."
