Chapter 308: The World Was About To Be Unplugged
The guys jumped to their feet, and they started yelling and arguing with each other.
Some of the guys thought that we needed to leave right now, while others argued that we needed to save as many people as we could before we saved ourselves.
Leaning back in my chair, I watched them continue to carry one.
I remember laughing with some of my co-workers back in Canada that if women ruled the world, it would be a lot different. The joke was that women knew how to compromise and make nice with others. We knew how to get shit down in a fast and effective way, while men view ’ruling’ as something completely different.
I hadn’t really considered what those differences looked like until right this moment.
"Guys," I sighed. When they didn’t quite hear me, I yelled a bit louder. "Guys!"
Nine heads swung toward me, including Hu Wen Cheng and Wang Chang Ming. "It’s a done deal," I started, but before they could cut me off again, I held up my hand. "The city falling isn’t a bad thing."
Now it was their turn to look at me like I was stupid, and I have to admit, I wasn’t a fan. How did they not see what was in front of them?
"You said that if City A fall, the country will fall. We’ve dedicated ourselves to preventing just that thing," said Bai Long Qiang, trying to calm his voice down. I appreciated the fact that he wasn’t yelling at me, but...
"Hasn’t the country already fallen?" I asked, more than a little confused. "I mean, we don’t have a head of government. We don’t really even have a government anymore. The military, what is left of it, is spread out far and wide, and the soldiers are now fighting for their lives... and for the lives of their loved ones. Country K is gone."
Seriously, how hadn’t they understood this until now? They lived in Camp Hell for a while. Didn’t they think that the government would have attempted to put a stop to it before now? Its location wasn’t a secret, or if it was, it was one of the worst-kept secrets around.
People were living in cities where one person alone was able to control them.
It was called the end of the world for a reason. Not because the world was exploding... dear God, don’t let the world explode, please.... But because life as we knew it was no longer the same.
"What are you saying?" asked Fan Teng Fei. He was one of the only men not joining in on the yelling from before.
"I am saying that this is a good thing."
And yet, once again, I was looked like the crazy person.
"How?" asked Chang Bo Jing, shaking his head. "I can’t see a single good thing to come from this city falling and everyone dying."
"Because that is the only way for everything to reset itself and rebuild. It’s like pulling the plug on your computer in order to fix the problem. The world is about to be unplugged for ten seconds, and then it will be reset."
Seriously, how could they not see that it wasn’t until you hit rock bottom that the only way you could go was up? We played God, and it backfired spectacularly. Hopefully, those who are left after this will have learned from it.
"Wait," said Hu Wen Cheng slowly, interrupting whatever Chang Bo Jing was going to say. "City A falls, and people will die. Will everyone die?" he asked, cocking his head to the side as he looked at me.
"Of course not. I, for one, am not planning on dying," I shrugged. "Have you ever heard of Noah’s ark?"
"The story of someone who built an ark, saved two of each animal, and when rain fell for 40 days, only those inside of the ark were saved?" said Ye Yao Zu, his brow scrunched as he tried to remember the story. At least I didn’t have to explain it.
"Yup," I nodded. "Consider this Noah’s Ark, thanks to that tree in the lobby."
"Okay," nodded back Si Dong. "So we all stay here, and things will be fine."
"No, we aren’t staying here," I laughed. "We’ll be leaving out of the front gates and going to City D, just like I planned."
"And the zombies between us and City D?" asked Ye Yao Zu.
"What? You thought that there would be fewer zombies after they managed to eat everyone in this city? No, the zombies won’t be a problem," I answered, shaking my head.
What I didn’t tell the guys was that I planned on helping the zombies destroy this city and get rid of the rot that had taken over. People like Wu Bai Hee should not be allowed to live in the new world.
"Those that are close to you are allowed to be here, but don’t let it be an open invitation," I suggested to Hu Wen Cheng as I came to my feet, my mind spinning with everything I wanted to do. And just how I was going to pull it off. "After all, those that you chose to save will be the foundations of the new world."
"Understood," replied Hu Wen Cheng, coming to his feet. Once again, he bowed to me. "I won’t breathe a word about this to anyone."
"I trust you," I smiled at him, patting his arm. "Take care of that tree."
"With my life," he assured me, just as Lai Dan Dan knocked on the door of the conference room.
The ants on my arms lit up like it was a party, their warning unable to overshadow their happiness. Whatever she wanted us for was going to be a good thing to some and a bad thing to others.
I wondered where me and the guys fell in that.
"Excuse me, head," said Lai Dan Dan as she opened the door. "But there is a runner here from Zhao Jun Jie, looking for Bin An Sha."
"For me?" asked Bin An Sha, confused. "What happened?"
"I don’t know, but the man looks terrified."
"Well, let’s go see how the Angel of City A can help him," I chuckled, strolling forward. All the balls were in motion; now, it was just a matter of seeing where they landed.
