Fight, Flight, or Freeze: The Healer's Story -
Chapter 298: Princess To Queen
Chapter 298: Princess To Queen
"Is she for real?" asked Bai Long Qiang, looking at Bin An Sha with complete disbelief.
"Shh," hushed the other man. "She can hear you with the window open."
But we all knew that she was for real and that, worst of all, people would believe what she said because she was the Princess of City A.
No wonder so many people died in my vision. She was setting them up for failure.
After yet another dramatic pause, Wu Bai Hee continued her speech. "There is another thing that I believe you should know. City A has been blessed. God has smiled down on us and has told me that the child I bear is blessed. He will be our savior. He will be the one to bring everyone food and water, to heal you when you are sick, and to make sure that your enemies are no more. My son will be the savior of City A, and for that reason, it will never fall."
The guys and I exchanged a look. There was no way people were going to fall for this bullshit, right? I mean, no matter how charismatic or manipulative she was, there had to be some point when people stopped believing her.
However, after a short pause, the sound of cheering and shouting rose from outside and echoed around the condo.
People were cheering for her. People believed what she had said.
"That is a lot of Kool-Aid," I grunted, looking out the window. I could see a massive crowd outside of our building as people jumped up and down, yelling that City A had been blessed thanks to the Princess.
The guys looked at me, but I could tell they didn’t understand my comment. Shaking my head, not bothering to explain, I closed the window on the cheers and went back to cuddling with Fan Teng Fei. The city didn’t stand a chance.
And now I wondered if we should even stay to defend it.

Wu Bai Hee gently waved to her adoring public, her left hand placed on her belly as if to remind everyone of the savior she carried.
Zhao Jun Jie gripped her around her elbow, squeezing tightly as he turned her around and escorted her into their home.
"What do you think you are doing?" he hissed as he closed the door to the balcony behind him. He looked around to make sure that none of the helpers were around to overhear what he was saying.
Seeing that they were alone, he brought her over to the couch and sat her down like a petulant child. There were some days that he was absolutely in love with her to the point that he couldn’t remember a time before she was in his life.
And there were times like now when he would have cheerfully killed her without a second thought.
"I don’t know what you are talking about," she huffed, crossing her arms in front of her chest and giving him her best pout. "Listen to them. They are now fully supporting you and your decisions. You are welcome, by the way."
"No," snapped Zhao Jun Jie, flinging his arm in a sweeping manner toward the balcony where the cheers of the civilians could still be heard. "They are supporting you and the baby. A baby you said was given to you by God."
"Clearly, you weren’t listening. I said that the baby was blessed by God, and he was. There is no way that things will not work out because I am untouchable," sneered Wu Bai Hee, no longer caring about maintaining her image.
She’d fuck him tonight, and he’d forget all about this conversation tomorrow.
Life was so much easier when she could just manipulate people using her voice. But the longer she did it, the less effective it was. She then had to move on to touching them... and when that no longer worked...
She rolled her eyes, dreading tonight. But if she wanted to keep her hold on the city, she had to keep her hold on the man controlling it.
One thing that no one seemed to appreciate was that it was almost impossible to go from princess to queen.
The reason for that was that princesses were always thought to be young, soft, and naïve. The long hair, the poofy dresses, and the perpetual smile.
But queens were ruthless, cold-blooded, and, most of all... capable.
Men treated a princess, no matter how old, as someone who could not form a thought in her head, while they treated queens with respect and fear.
While the titles were close, and most princesses eventually became queens, they didn’t become queens in their own right. They became queens because they married kings.
It was something she never thought of when she encouraged the people to call her a princess. But unless something drastic happened, she would never be seen as anything more than arm candy to Zhao Jun Jie.
"I don’t care. But I will not let people think that my son, MY HEIR, was sired by someone else. Not even a god," hissed Zhao Jun Jie as he paced manically back and forth.
He was getting more and more out of hand, and she was going to do something drastic.
Did she really need him in order to rule?
Fuck. She did. At least until after the zombie tide went away.
She cocked her head to the side as she stared forward, a plan forming in her mind.
She could blame Zhao Jun Jie for everything. The zombies killed some of the people because God was mad at him.
Why was God mad at him? Because he refused to acknowledge the child that she bore for him....
The longer she thought of it, the better the story became.
She would feed Zhao Jun Jie to the zombies in exchange for keeping them out of City A. They had alliances with other groups of humans; why couldn’t these zombies have an alliance with her, too?
"Are you even listening to me?" demanded Zhao Jun Jie, coming to a stop in front of her.
"Of course I am," she purred, coming to her feet. Raising her hand, she brushed her fingers across his face, pushing her power into his mind. "I always listen to you. I’m your good girl, right? I can do nothing wrong. I hate it when you are mad at me."
