Chapter 291: I Was Going To Hell

The look on Hu Wen Cheng’s face when he said interesting caused me to stiffen. I wasn’t going to be used against Liu Hao Yu and Huang Xiao Wen. I refused.

Ants were starting to make their presence known and I was just about to tell the leader of the White Tigers that whatever he was thinking, he needed to stop it, when my vision went black.

"Happy Birthday, Little Bird." I could hear Rip laughing softly in my ear and I could feel the pressure of his hands as he covered my eyes. "No peaking."

I could feel a warm breeze on my face and I could hear the sound of children’s laughter in the distance. I felt lighter, happier, and I could hear the voices of people mingling around me.

"Make a wish, Mommy," came the voice of a little girl.

I could stop the tears from coming out of my eyes as I replied to her. "What do I need to wish for? I have everything I need right here."

I came back into my body gasping for air as Bai Long Qiang frantically tried to dry my cheeks.

"Whatever it is, we will make sure it doesn’t happen. Do you understand me? Whatever it is. We have you. You and me against the world, remember? Well... and the rest of them too, but you know what I mean," he said quickly.

"No," I gasped, turning to look at Hu Wen Cheng. "Whatever it was that you were thinking of doing. You need to do it. Make sure you do it. Do you understand me?!?"

I knew I was practically screaming at the poor man, but if his plans led to that future, there was no way I was going to stop him. In fact, I would kill whoever I needed to in order to make sure that future happened.

Hu Wen Cheng stared at me, not saying a word. "It probably won’t happen," he admitted. "Not when there is a zombie tide coming soon."

"In two days," I shot out hastily, that sweet vision still too close to the surface for me to be willing to back down. "The tide will hit in two days. The teams return tomorrow."

"And just how do you know that?" asked Hu Wen Cheng, cocking his head to the side. The expression on his face was tight for a second, before he relaxed. "It doesn’t matter. If you say that there are only two days, then there are only two days." Letting out a long breath, he turned around and started down the hall. "Let’s go speak in my office."

The guys and I quickly followed after him as he strolled down the long hallway and straight into the office that was at the end.

"Excuse the dead body, I sent Wu Ze Ming to get some men to clean it up. But those fuc—stars make everything slower," excused Hu Wen Cheng as he pulled out his chair behind his desk and gestured for Rip to put me in it.

"It’s fine," I sighed. "Not even the second body in front of me today," I shrugged. It wasn’t until this moment that I realized just how normal dead bodies and killing had become for me.

Huh.

That couldn’t be good.

"Still," replied Hu Wen Cheng sitting across from me. "It’s not right. But how are you in this city?"

"Oh, so you don’t know all of the major players," snorted Bin An Sha as he leaned against the wall beside the door.

Hu Wen Cheng looked over his shoulder and raised an eyebrow. Before the two of them could get into it again, I quickly interjected. "After we were rescued from Camp Hell, we came here. There was really only one small murmuring regarding me that you may or may not have heard of."

Now it was the rest of the guys turn to snort, including Fan Teng Fei. "That’s an understatement," he grunted.

Hu Wen Cheng looked at Fan Teng Fei as if expecting him to continue. "The Angel of City A," smiled the man, pronouncing the words slowly.

"Ah," nodded the other man, seemingly not at all surprised. "I probably should have seen that coming."

"Anyway," I grunted, trying to move on. "What were you thinking and what can I do to make sure that that happens?"

"Like I said, I can’t figure it out right now," replied Hu Wen Cheng. "There are too many variables. And the biggest one is if the zombies actually manage to take over City A."

"City A will fall, the savior will fall, and the queen will die," I said, my dreamy voice coming out.

"Okay then," grunted Hu Wen Cheng, staring at me. Wasn’t I just spilling all of my secrets to this man.

I crossed my arms in front of me and dropped them onto the table in front of me and started banging my head against them.

"It’s okay," smiled Si Dong, coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around me. He perched on the arm rest of the chair and pulled me closer to his body. "If he blabs, we’ll just kill him."

----

I have no idea what the guys talked about, I ended up falling asleep in Si Dong’s lap, but things must have been figured out because when I woke up, I was in a bed that I had never seen before curled up around Wang Cheng Ming.

I stared down at him and thought about what a horrible person I was. While Cheng Bo Jing did look after him the most, I had still given him my last name. I needed to step up, I needed to be a better caretaker or else this kid was going to need therapy.

I mean, most parents wouldn’t let their three year old watch anything other than cartoons, and here was me, showing him a bunch of dead bodies. In fact, two of them were killed right in front of him.

I was going to hell.

Pulling the boy closer into my body, I breathed in his scent.

I had just found him, and yet, it felt like I had known him forever. He was meant to be a part of my family, and I needed to do a better job at raising him.

"I love you, mommy," he whispered, clearly awake.

"Love you too, baby," I murmured back.
