Chapter 283: Something Important?
So, it turned out that it was a very big issue.
As soon as I finished my sentence, men streamed out of the trees around us, shouting orders and pointing guns at us.
Which, of course, caused Wang Chang Ming to be scared and start crying. Which set Cheng Bo Jing off. And then, as he got more and more angry, Wang Chang Ming got more and more scared and jumped on me when I wasn’t expecting it, which caused me to fall onto my back, banging my head off of a stump of some kind or other.
Suffice it to say, my blood on the ground caused the earth to start shaking and twisting, desperate to get a taste of me. The plants that did shot up even higher, and the roots became even bigger. It was looking a lot like what happened in City B when I drew on the power of the zombies and put it into the world around me.
Only this time, I was already surrounded by trees.
Anyway... that was the earth’s reaction to my blood.
My men’s was entirely different but no less violent.
Rip darted forward, grabbing the muzzle of the gun closest to him and pointing it up into the air. The soldier reflectively pulled the trigger as soon as Rip touched the gun. Which scared Wang Chang Ming, which set off Cheng Bo Jing, which made the rest of my men think that I was being shot at.
Yeah. It was something.
Meanwhile I was standing in the middle of the circle of my men, blood trickling from a wound in the back of my head and a terrified three year old clinging to my thigh.
This was not how I thought I was going to enter paradise...but when did things ever really work out the way I wanted them to? If that were the case, all of us would have been in my bunker the day the EMP struck, and the past few years would have never happened.
But then I wouldn’t have met Rip and Bin An Sha... so maybe it was a good trade off.
I was pulled from my thoughts as a body flew toward me, almost knocking me over again. "Watch it! You almost hit her!" shouted Bin An Sha as he threw a massive rock at the man coming at me, knocking him off balance. He fell to the ground and didn’t move.
"Sorry!" replied Bai Long Qiang, never turning his attention away from the three men in front of him.
"Spatial awareness! Get some," grunted Bin An Sha as he slammed his fist into the face of the man closest to him. I half expected him to do some fancy spinning kicks or something along those lines, but all he did was punch.
And yet, not a single person walked away after being hit by him.
"Fancy moves in a fight like that don’t work," called out Si Dong, clearly reading my mind. Like Bin An Sha, he was keeping to the basics of fighting, looking more like an MMA fighter than an action hero.
I could hear the metal rattling from Fan Teng Fei’s staff as Hei let out a loud cry as he swooped down on yet another man dressed all in black. The two fought like they had always been together, each hit of the staff rendering another enemy unconscious.
I couldn’t see any guns after the first shot was fired, so I was going to assume that either Fan Teng Fei brought them into his space or Cheng Bo Jing melted them. Either way, my men were completely dominating this fight.
It really shouldn’t be as big of a turn on as it was.
"Remember that for later!" shouted both Ye Yao Zu and Si Dong as they amped up their strikes.
"You do know that we are friends and don’t really want to kill them, right? We are just here to tell them about the zombies coming," I shouted out, trying to remind my guys not to kill the strangers and to let the strangers know we weren’t there to take anything.
A sharp whistle echoed through the trees, and suddenly, the men in black shot back and disappeared into the trees, their figures obscured by all of the foliage. Even those who were unconscious at our feet vanished at the sound of the whistle.
"We have two healers if you need to use us," I continued to call out as I gently pat Chang Ming on the head, trying to get him to calm down.
Cheng Bo Jing tried to take him from me, but the kid only held onto me tighter. Okay then, plan B.
"Bin An Sha," I sighed. The guys would want to know how nasty the wound was, and I couldn’t heal this type of wound myself without pulling the energy from the plants, and I didn’t want to show my cards so soon.
"Nothing major," grunted the man as he poked and prodded around the wound. With my hair up in a ponytail, it had to be easy to see where the blood was coming from. "But you are going to have a big goose egg on the back of your head for a while."
After announcing the injury to everyone, Bin An Sha leaned forward until he was right next to my ear, his hot breath caressing my skin. "You won’t want to sleep on your back for the next little while," he purred into my ear as his hand slipped into my hair, right next to the cut. "I am more than willing to have you sleep on top of me if you want."
My brain exploded.
The feeling of his breath, his fingers massaging my scalp, his words...
I stared helplessly at him, not even blinking.
"Great, now you broke her," smirked Rip as he came to stand in front of me. He reached down and brought my face up so that I was looking into his eyes.
"I guess that means I get to keep her," smirked Bin An Sha, wrapping the hand not in my hair around my waist and pulling me against his chest.
Rip took a step forward until I couldn’t even take in a breath without touching him.
Wait... weren’t we in the middle of something? I feel like I should be doing something else... something important?
