Chapter 147: TWINS!!!

The second her skin touched mine, I couldn’t help but gasp.

I was right about her broken ribs, but what I didn’t know was that a part of one had somehow managed to pierce her womb. One of her babies was impaled on it and was quickly dying.

I could see his heart struggling to continue pumping as his blood started to mix with the embryotic fluid that surrounded him and his twin. The white bone was a sharp contrast to everything else, and I could feel my heart break because of it.

Not willing to let anything happen to her children, I poured all of my energy into her, not bothering to hold back anything.

Rip was fighting tonight, so I wouldn’t need to heal any of the fighters, and the other girls could go fuck themselves.

I watched as the rib was removed from the baby and reattached itself to its other half while my magic dove into the fetus, fixing him from the inside out. It seemed to have taken an hour before I could see the perfectly healed baby, but I knew it was only a matter of seconds.

The blood had been miraculously put back inside of the fetus, and the heart resumed its original pace. It was still a smidge slower than I would have liked, but it was still well within the acceptable range.

Once again, the embryonic fluid was clear, but just to make sure everything was fine, I took a closer look at the umbilical cord, the placenta, and the uterine lining. There was no sign of trauma, and everything seemed to be looking normal for a 16-week gestation.

Still not convinced, I triple-checked my work to make sure the other twin was fine and not suffering; I infused some nutrients into the babies before going back to work on their mom.

There wouldn’t even be a scar left behind. I made sure of it.

The woman in the cage beside me, my angel in the darkness, tightened her hold on me at the sound of my gasp as if she knew exactly what happened.

"Don’t worry about a thing," I assured her, still pouring my energy into her at a rapid rate. She was better off, health-wise, than anyone else that I have treated here, but that didn’t mean that she couldn’t use even more energy. "The babies are okay now."

"Babies?" asked the woman. Her eyes went wide, and the question came out in a horrified whisper.

Oh no, did I do something wrong? Was she not happy about the pregnancy? Should I not have done that and let nature take its course?

"You didn’t know?" I replied slowly, watching every last one of her expressions. If she didn’t want it...

She shook her head, still looking stunned. "If I knew, beyond a doubt, that I was pregnant, I can tell you right now that there is no way I would be here right now."

I nodded my head, never letting go of the connection between us. I had the feeling she was here for a reason, and she had all but confirmed it.

But she was locked in a cage, dependent on her fighters to do whatever it was that they had planned.

If no one knew that she was pregnant...

No, I wouldn’t think about it. I would talk to Rip tomorrow. The Alpha would die, and she would be saved.

"Well, if it’s any consolation, they are absolutely perfect. Not a thing wrong with them at all," I assured her, a big smile on my face as she searched my eyes to make sure that I wasn’t lying.

"They don’t feed us much here, but I have an in with someone. He can bring you more food if I ask him," I continued. Feeding a woman pregnant with twins would take some fancy moves, but I could forgo my food for at least two meals a day.

Rip would get upset if it was any longer, and I didn’t want him upset because of something like that.

She needed the limited nutrients more than I did.

"An in?" she asked just as a loud roar came from the fighter’s area. There was nothing unusual about the sound, especially since at least one new fighter was brought in. I swore the fighters would piss over things if they thought it would prove just how much of a ’bigger man’ they were.

No. The fighters couldn’t be depended on.

"Yes, Rip," I answered with a nod once the noise quieted down. I assume one or more Reavers entered and brought things under control. Alpha hated it when people wasted their energy in the cages instead of the pit. The newcomer would learn fast.

"You know Rip?" asked the woman, looking at me with her eyes wide. I could feel my back arch up, and I wanted to hiss at her for saying his name. The idea that she knew my Rip made me furious. Rip was mine, and I wouldn’t share him.

But despite my thoughts, I maintained my smile. "Yes," I admitted, "He’s the one that makes life worth living right now."

A moment of insecurity made me wonder if she was my personal Jolene, but if Rip knew her and was still with me right now, it meant that he was mine. And if he changed his mind after seeing this woman, then he was not the man I thought he was, and I was better off without him.

And maybe if I told myself that enough times, I would begin to believe it.

"It’s always important to have someone that makes life worth living," said the woman whose name I still didn’t know.

Pulled from my moment of weakness, I fixed my smile and nodded my head. "And now, with your twins, you will have something to keep you going, too."

I didn’t want to reassure her and tell her that her man would be there with her for the rest of her life. The chances that he would survive the fights were 50/50 unless Rip was involved. And I wasn’t willing to sacrifice Rip for her fighter.

Rip, and I could help her with the babies if necessary.

"TWINS?" she screamed, clenching my hand even tighter inside of her. She cringed slightly like she just thought of something before she closed her eyes.

I got it; I really did. Twins were a lot to take in for anyone, let alone someone in a cage right now. I rubbed the top of her hand with my thumb, trying to give her as much reassurance as I could.
