Chapter 138: I’ve Heard A Lot About You
"Do you remember what I said?" asked Hu Wen Cheng as he, Bai Long Qiang, and Cheng Bo Jing waited in one of the upper lounges of his fight club.
"Keep our mouths shut?" snipped Bai Long Qiang. It was earlier than what Wang Chao’s woman said, but he wanted to be there for Wang Tian Mu sooner rather than later. He could survive any form of Hell as long as his woman was waiting for him on the other side.
"Reavers are a higher evolution than the zombies," started Hu Wen Cheng with a sigh. If there wasn’t something inside of Camp Hell that he wanted, he would not be going through this shit with a sulky teenager... even if the man was in his 30s.
Cheng Bo Jing nodded his head as he listened to what the other man had said. One thing he had learned early on was the fact that Hu Wen Cheng’s sources were as good, if not better than his own.
"They don’t have any of the weaknesses that the zombies have, and if it weren’t for self mutilation, you might not be able to tell them and a normal human apart. They are stronger, faster, and can eat anything, including zombies. The leader of this particular horde seems to be trying to start his own empire, so I am going to assume that he has delusions of grandeur."
Bai Long Qiang and Cheng Bo Jing shared a look before turning their attention back to Hu Wen Cheng.
"How do we kill them?" asked Bai Long Qiang, getting to the heart of the matter.
"You can’t," shrugged their ’boss’ like it was no big deal, but the idea that something was impossible to kill didn’t sit well with any of them. "They regenerate faster than zombies, and while they don’t replicate, they can still regrow limbs. I have yet to see anyone kill one and have the Reaver stay dead. And then you have to deal with the whole horde afterward. If you want to live long enough to get the girl, don’t piss off the Reavers."
"But everything dies," muttered Bai Long Qiang under his breath. He had gone a while without killing a zombie, but he did remember that they were weak to fire. "Maybe if we burn them like the zombies?"
"You are more than welcome to do whatever you want... after I leave Camp Hell. I am not going to get mixed in with your idiocy," sneered Hu Wen Cheng.
"I have a meeting with the boss," came a male voice from the bar on the main floor.
Hu Wen Cheng looked over at Wu Ze Min and nodded his head. The Recruiter would come up to them, not the other way around.
Wu Ze Min bowed slightly before turning around and walking out of the room.
"If your woman is already there, you need to be prepared," whispered Hu Wen Cheng. "The rumors going around is that the women are treated more like... cattle... than humans. They are available for anyone to hire for the night and live in cages during the day. If she is there, she might not be who you remember."
"I don’t care," replied Bai Long Qiang, coming to his feet. Cheng Bo Jing slipped behind him and just off to the side. "She will always be the only one for me, no matter what she went through."
Hu Wen Cheng nodded his head, but what he thought was much different. He couldn’t think of a single man who would be okay with his woman being passed around to anyone and everyone.
"Sir, the Recruiter is here for you," said Wu Ze Min as he opened the door and filled up the doorway to prevent anyone from coming in behind him.
"Thank you, he can come in," smiled Hu Wen Cheng, looking more like a shark than a successful businessman. But he was so close to getting what he needed, and he wasn’t going to back down now that the finish line was in sight.
"Hu Wen Cheng! I’ve heard a lot about you," smiled the Recruiter as he strolled into the room, not at all worried about what he could be walking into. No one dared to touch him; he represented the Alpha, after all.
"All good things, I’m sure," smiled Hu Wen Cheng, not bothering to move from his comfortable position on his chair. This man was nothing more than a lackey who thought he was something.
It was like watching a chihuahua jumping around and snapping at the rottweilers around him. Just because the chihuahua had a human behind him, it didn’t mean that he wouldn’t make a nice snack before the human could rush in and save him.
And the one holding the Recruiter’s leash was days away from here. Plenty of time to work things out.
The Recruiter simply smiled but didn’t say anything. Everyone in the room knew that there were few ’good things’ to say about Hu Wen Cheng. The man wouldn’t flinch about slitting a man’s throat for no reason.
"I hear that you will be joining us?" continued the Recruiter, going to the bar set up in the room and pouring himself a drink.
"I’ll be following behind in a car of my own," shrugged Hu Wen Cheng as if it wasn’t a big deal that he had his own transportation. The Recruiter’s eyes widened for a second before he got himself under control.
"I’ll have to take the fighter myself if that is okay with you."
"Of course, I wouldn’t want him in my car anyway," smiled Hu Wen Cheng as he got to his feet. "But since this journey will take a little while, we should get going now."
"Of course," smiled the Recruiter as he put his glass down and followed the other men out of the room. Hu Wen Cheng might think that he still ruled the world, but he was in for a rude awakening once he got out of the walls of his fortress. In fact, the Recruiter wouldn’t be surprised if he found himself in a cage by the end of the journey.
It didn’t hurt that he was always in the market for a new car anyway. Alpha would have a lot to say about some boss coming into his territory and pretending to be hot shit. Ah, if only he could be a fly on the wall when that situation played out.
