"You would have to come closer if you really want to find any injuries." He teased, knowing she wasn’t going to come closer.

"You do not care about me!" He whined, coming up beside her, his lips in a pout as he gave her puppy eyes.

"You are wicked." He taunted, stopping beside her as they stood before the first line of trees.

"I will turn first. You can come in afterwards." She said quietly.

Without leaving him a chance to respond, she walked into the forest. He listened closely, letting his wolf out a little so he could see her properly. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion when he saw her walk deeper than necessary into the forest.

He was about to call her when she stopped and hid behind a tree, blocking her from his sight. He couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought that she knew he was going to watch her every step, even though he wasn’t close.

A small part of her figure was revealed as she took off her clothes, tying them loosely around her waist, and in a second, her brown wolf stood in her place, unmoving.

Maria stretched her limbs and body, subconsciously howling into the empty area in excitement, causing Bethany to scoff at the back of her mind.

Paying no heed to Bethany, she stepped out from behind the tree, turning around to face Theodore directly.

She let out a happy growl on seeing he was still watching her, waiting for her to tell him to come in.

She considered toying with him, but thought against it. Well, some of it.

As soon as she gave him a sign to turn, she dashed into the forest running as fast as light away from his sight.

Without thinking, Theo ran into the forest, shifting as he did, his eyes and ears on alert.

He ran around the woods he’d mastered long ago, following her scent, but realized that she’d gone into hiding when he returned to the spot he had started in.

He couldn’t help but think of how strong and fast she was, given the fact that she’d made sure her scent was everywhere in almost every corner of the forest she knew he was going to check.

’Nice try, baby.’ He teased in his mind, his long tongue licking his upper jaw as he placed his signature sinister grin across his face.

Closing his eyes, he cleared his mind and listened to every sound being made by every living thing in the forest.

His heart rate almost spiked when he realized that everything was quiet, except the normal noises of the trees, crickets, rabbits, squirrels etc.

Not wanting to accept defeat, he listened again, clearing out the other normal sounds for one that wasn’t familiar. One that was completely out of place.

And that was when he heard it, her racing heartbeat. Grinning like an asshole, he sped in the direction of the sound, making sure the sound of his paws on the soft soil was loud and deep so he could scare her, but much to his dismay, her instincts were faster than he’d thought.

She quickly leaped out of her hiding place, which was a tiny cave that could fit every wolf but an Alpha. She raced through the trees like her life depended on it, her tongue hanging outside her jaws in excitement as adrenaline pulsed through her, causing her to whip through the trees like a piece of cake, making wolfy sounds with every mile she covered, even though Theo was beginning to cover up the space between them.

She didn’t really care if he caught her, but the possibility of getting caught gave her a huge thrill that only made her push harder.

She pumped her limbs forward, basking in the comfort of the fresh, unadulterated scent of forest air mixed with moist, loamy soil. It made her insides twist with satisfaction. She had missed it, every single bit of it.

In less than a minute, Theo’s massive wolf nudged her to the ground, tackling and tickling her, his massive tongue licking her face.

The feeling of being cooed by another wolf in their natural forms felt extremely foreign to her since she had never done it with anyone, but with each level of foreignness came a wave of warmth and satisfaction.

After a while of nipping, budging and licking, they lay side by side, peering at the tiny portion of the sky that had managed to show despite the large canopies the trees provided.

Maria snuggled closer into Theo’s warmth. He let her place her head on his back as she lay sideways, while he lay on his front.

’I love it here. So peaceful, so quiet. No stress, no burdens, no snakes.’ She said to him through the pack link, holding up a strong wall so no close pack members could listen in on their conversation.

’I know. Sometimes it feels like it is not part of the world. Or like we are miles and miles away from the rest of the world. It is my safe place. Especially this forest.’ Theo responded softly, sighing in content, which actually came out like a grunt.

’This is probably the best place you have ever purchased.’ She remarked.

’It is my best purchase. Nothing tops it.’ He acknowledged, smiling.

’Have you ever brought anyone here? Except Troy and Tristan.’ She asked tentatively after a while of silence.

’No, I haven’t.’ He said. ’I have never taken a girl to my home. It’s always been hotels and stalls. Depending on how urgent we are.’ He explained.

She couldn’t help but shift against him, not knowing what to do with the information she just got.

’You wanted to know. Now, you’re speechless.’ Maria said, a little annoyed, although Bethany couldn’t say if she was the cause or what he said.

’Why are you so quiet?’ Theo asked, and she could feel his massive head turn to face her tiny figure that leaned comfortably against his warm and cozy yet strong side.
