Chapter 110: Game of Minds.
"No. It’s not that." She spoke up, looking directly at him now. Her clear eyes stared into his as she hoped it was going to pacify him somehow.
"I’m perfectly fine. I’m just worried you might find my wolf too small and unworthy." She explained in a low voice, unable to stop herself from looking down at her hands.
"Unworthy? Why would I do that?" He asked, utterly confused. He’d seen her wolf before, and to his biggest surprise, she was bigger than he’d imagined her to be. Bigger and Prettier.
Shiny honey brown pelt covered her entire figure, all except her paws and ears, which were colored black. He couldn’t understand what she was speaking of, but she had looked beyond worthy the day he’d seen her for the first time.
"She’s small," Bethany said, almost in a whisper.
"Princess, that would never, ever happen. You’re gorgeous, inside out. Your pelt is unique. Your wolf is the fourth strongest female in this pack. I couldn’t be anymore prouder, Baby. And even if you were as tiny as a pebble, I’d place you on my back and ride you as fast as possible to wherever you’d want to go, and as many times as you may wish." He reassured, his soft voice and eyes making way for his words to seep through her.
"Okay." She agreed, sighing, tiny bubbles of her newfound confidence forming in the pit of her stomach, as she looked up at him.
Theo smiled widely, relief shining in his eyes due to how much progress he was making.
He could peer into her eyes clearly from where he sat at the tip of his seat, grinning like a schoolboy. Her wolf’s presence sat pretty comfortably in her eyes indicating she wasn’t fully awake yet.
It was something that happened pretty often in werewolves, especially if the person had done something exhausting before going to bed. It takes a bit time and strength for their human part to take back control, and in her case, it was going to take a while, given her status as an Omega.
No matter how hard she might decide to train, she was never going to be as strong as a regular wolf, but being a very strong Omega meant a lot, especially with the fact that she was going to carry the Alpha’s pups one day.
"C’mon. Let’s go." He said as he got up from his seat, coming before her and taking her hand in his, ppl pulling her softly from her seat.
He couldn’t help but chuckle at how responsive her wolf was, a complete contrast to the feisty human side he was used to.
"What is it?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowing a bit as she wondered what she had done that had made him laugh.
"You’re quite different from her," Theo responded as they walked to the door that led them to the back porch. In no time, they were standing on a high, tiny balcony that had two stairs on either side.
Beyond the porch was an acre of cleared land, the thick, dark green forest stretching from its corners. She could practically feel her wolf form itching to be let out, but she didn’t want to seem impatient, so she went ahead to respond to him.
"I’m actually worse than she is," Maria responded in a very steady tone, the charisma leaking from it caused his eyebrow to arch. "I’m just this way because this is the first time I’m meeting you in person, so let’s say I’m trying to make a very good first impression." She added quietly, her eyes peering into the woods whose fresh rain smell practically screamed at her to run in.
"Well, if you’re done making your impressions, I’d ask humbly that you take them down because my paws are itching to be let out, and I ran yesterday, so I can’t say the same for you, who hasn’t trained in over a day." He said, turning to look at her towards the end of his sentence, gray ones peering into her brown pair.
Like he’d predicted, unbridled hunger swimmers freely in her eyes, her jaws clenching as she tried to keep her composure and her stupid paws from bursting through her. It was almost impossible, but with every passing second, she never failed to remind herself that every second that passed was evidence of how strong she was being.
"You have a very strong willpower as well," Theo said, his eyes shining as he assimilated his new discovery. "That’s beyond new." He pointed.
"You seem to really enjoy reading people." She said quietly, deciding that since he wanted to play a little game of minds before their supposed run, she was just going to have to give him a run for his money.
"Well,l that’s one of the things I’m really good at." He responded smugly, but didn’t let his guard down.
"Good? I wouldn’t say you’re very good at it, but you try." Maria spat, knowing those words would confuse him, and that was exactly what she wanted. Him confused out of his mind so that in his next life, he was never ever going to succumb to the idea of playing with her mind again.
"Nice try, Maria. But we both know that’s a lie." Theo defended, his voice calm and steady as he tried to hide the self-doubt that had formed in his heart more quickly than he had imagined, swallowing the lump that had formed in his throat.
Maria smiled, knowing she had got him already. Even if she decided to ignore the doubt that dripped from his words, the fact that he went straight to a defensive mood without wasting a breath was more than enough proof that she had made it successfully into his head, and any other words she was going to say were only going to solidify her position in his mind.
And when she was going to be done with him, he was going to learn to never attempt prying into her mind.
