Jian Yufei’s tears suddenly welled up the moment she saw the painting.

She wiped away her tears with her hand, smiled, and nodded. "It looks amazing, Ansel. You’ve painted it so perfectly—it’s identical."

Jian Yufei took the drawing and looked tenderly at the two brothers depicted on it.

They had identical faces, the same skin tone, the same hair—everything was the same.

"Ansel, which one is you, and which one is Junqi?"

Ansel pointed with his finger. "I’m the older brother, so the one on the left is me. The one on the right is Junqi. He’s the younger brother."

"Ansel, why do you insist on being the older brother?" Jian Yufei asked softly.

"Because a big brother can protect the younger one."

"..." Jian Yufei’s chest tightened with pain; it dawned on her that he didn’t insist on being the older brother just for fun.

He wanted to protect his younger brother—that’s why he fought to be the older one.

Her child, so young yet so thoughtful, filled her heart with both comfort and sorrow.

Holding Ansel close, Jian Yufei kissed his forehead gently. "Sweetheart, go to sleep now. Maybe in your dreams, you’ll meet Junqi."

"Really?"

"Yes, really." Jian Yufei nodded dazedly, because she herself dreamed of Junqi almost every night.

Her other child, Ruan Junqi.

Obediently, Ansel closed his eyes and quickly fell into a deep sleep.

And then, he did have a dream. In his dream, he was Brother Haier, and Junqi was Haier.

The two brothers explored the ocean together, sailing and adventuring. They made many friends, traveled to countless countries, and accomplished great feats.

The thrilling, exciting, and remarkable journeys he shared with Junqi made him unconsciously smile even in his dream.

After ensuring Ansel was asleep, Jian Yufei tucked him in and gently kissed his forehead again. Her eyes brimmed with motherly love.

Holding the drawing of the Haier brothers, Jian Yufei couldn’t resist kissing the image of the two brothers as well.

Her big Haier and little Haier—she was waiting for the day they’d reunite, waiting for the moment they’d be by her side, never separated again.

What they didn’t know was that Ruan Tianling had been standing silently at the door, overhearing every word of their conversation.

"What are you doing here?" She nearly jumped in surprise.

Ruan Tianling grabbed her body and pressed his thin lips against hers.

He cradled her face and gave her a deep, lingering kiss––

Jian Yufei’s eyes widened in shock, utterly confused by his behavior.

"What’s going on with you?" She blinked and asked doubtfully.

"I’ve missed you!" Ruan Tianling’s breath was unsteady, and his gaze was dark and intense, almost frightening.

"Missed me?"

"Yes, I’ve missed you so much!" Ruan Tianling swept her up into his arms and strode towards their bedroom.

For some reason, Jian Yufei’s cheeks flushed deeply, and her heart raced wildly.

Ruan Tianling exuded an overpowering aura of aggression, leaving her entire body paralyzed with a tingling sensation...

Her body was placed on the bed, the room shrouded in darkness. Yet she could see his eyes, shining bright and boundlessly dark, as if they were capable of swallowing her whole.

Jian Yufei swallowed nervously. "Ruan Tianling, what’s gotten into you?"

His actions gave her a strange, unsettling feeling.
