Chapter 477: Easy to Lose Control

Chapter 477: Chapter 477: Easy to Lose Control

After the investment from Qiankun Group, Eastern First-class’s office address relocated to the Golden Island Business District due to strong financial support.

Everyone liked the new environment, each having an independent and spacious office, and most importantly, it was in the city center, shortening the daily commute time.

To celebrate the company’s relocation, everyone planned a dinner party in the evening. Someone suggested bringing family members to make it lively. After work, Cheng Qiaobei went to pick up Chen Ningxi.

The car parked under the power building, and Cheng Qiaobei sent her a message.

north: Arrived.

Chen Ningxi was discussing the electric power promotional week for the National Day holidays with Lei Dechang. Seeing the message pop up on her screen, she finalized the plan and walked out of the office.

Lei Dechang went downstairs with Chen Ningxi, talking as they walked, "Did you know Manager Bai was hospitalized?"

Chen Ningxi was surprised, "When did this happen?"

Manager Bai had been a mentor to Chen Ningxi and was instrumental in bringing her to the power company.

Lei Dechang said, "He didn’t want me to tell you. It happened the day before yesterday. He had a cerebral thrombosis, and he almost didn’t make it."

Chen Ningxi asked anxiously, "Which hospital?"

Lei Dechang said, "Danjiang People’s Hospital, room 4010. Don’t say I told you; he didn’t want me to."

Chen Ningxi nodded, "Got it."

Cheng Qiaobei noticed the person getting in the car looked upset and casually asked, "What’s wrong? You seem unhappy."

Chen Ningxi said, "Manager Bai was hospitalized. He was the former manager at the Danjiang Power Company, and he was the one who guided me when I joined and encouraged me to take the manager’s position. I should go see him tomorrow out of respect."

Cheng Qiaobei: "What illness do you know?"

Chen Ningxi said, "Cerebral thrombosis. It was quite serious at the time; he walked on the verge of death, but thankfully was saved."

Cheng Qiaobei: "I’ll go with you tomorrow."

Chen Ningxi: "Alright."

Noticing the street view wasn’t the route home, Chen Ningxi asked, "Where are we going?"

Cheng Qiaobei said, "The company relocated; they insisted on having a dinner party and wanted us to bring family members."

Chen Ningxi nodded understandingly.

Cheng Qiaobei said, "You haven’t seen the new office yet. Come over and check it out when you’re off this weekend."

Chen Ningxi replied, "Is it convenient?"

Cheng Qiaobei laughed, "What’s inconvenient about it? Oh, from the floor-to-ceiling window in my office, you can even see your workplace."

Chen Ningxi asked, "Where exactly?"

Cheng Qiaobei gave the address, and Chen Ningxi said, "Prime location, where every inch of land is worth gold."

The car stopped at Yunhui Private Club. Wei Lai had chosen a private room with a balcony, and everyone sat around the long dining table, the balcony lit by small night lamps creating a great atmosphere.

Everyone frequently raised their glasses, drinking heartily, with many of the speeches expressing gratitude to Cheng Qiaobei and the company.

Chen Ningxi noticed that Wei Lai, who usually liked to drink a little, had a glass filled with orange juice instead. She vaguely guessed something, leaned over, and asked her quietly:

"Are you pregnant?"

Upon hearing this, Wei Lai first smiled shyly, then nodded.

"That’s wonderful, congratulations." Chen Ningxi proactively raised her glass.

Wei Lai clinked glasses with her, "Thank you."

Soon, someone noticed Wei Lai hadn’t had a drink tonight, which was unusual for someone always at the frontline in drinking.

Deng Yan then informed everyone, "Wei Lai can’t drink because she’s pregnant."

After speaking, he instinctively glanced at Cheng Qiaobei and swept over Chen Ningxi’s face. The reason for not publicly announcing it was not wanting them to feel any disparity.

Cheng Qiaobei was the first to raise his glass, "Congratulations, Wei Lai and Deng Yan."

Wei Lai raised her glass with water instead of wine to toast everyone.

On the way back, Chen Ningxi couldn’t help but feel a bit envious as she thought about the happiness radiating from Wei Lai’s face.

"Wei Lai got pregnant even though she married later than us, sigh..." Chen Ningxi said wistfully, "I wonder when I can finally conceive."

Cheng Qiaobei held her hand, "The baby’s timing follows fate; not being pregnant yet means our destined meeting point hasn’t arrived."

Chen Ningxi understood that this matter couldn’t be hurried.

The valet parked the car, and Cheng Qiaobei took over the keys. Seeing the valet had arrived by shared bike, making it difficult to take a taxi back, he scanned to pay extra for the valet fee, earning the boy’s gratitude.

As they entered the elevator, Chen Ningxi placed her hand on the railing, her gaze somewhat unfocused, her mind constantly turning over thoughts about pregnancy.

Cheng Qiaobei noticed, covering her hand with his and holding it, "Stop thinking about it, focus more on me; I’m a man standing beside you who needs your affection."

Chen Ningxi turned her face to him, smiling, "You sound so pitiful."

Cheng Qiaobei leaned his shoulder, whispering in her ear, "Yeah, I’m so pitiful. Do you want to hold me tonight?"

By ’hold,’ he meant more than just a simple embrace.

Chen Ningxi said, "You’ve had a drink; go to bed early as you have work tomorrow."

"No, I just want you to hold me." Cheng Qiaobei chuckled softly, his tone stubborn with a hint of coyness, knowing Chen Ningxi couldn’t resist his pestering.

"Wife," Cheng Qiaobei lightly bumped her arm, causing Chen Ningxi to sway slightly and turn away, "No, you’ve been drinking."

Cheng Qiaobei: "What’s wrong with drinking?"

Chen Ningxi blushed, her mind filled with numerous forbidden images, "It easily gets out of control."

As she gave her answer, the elevator doors also opened, and Chen Ningxi stepped out first. Cheng Qiaobei pulled her back, lifted her up, and said:

"I promise not to lose control tonight."

Chen Ningxi didn’t believe him, "You promised last time too, but I was in pain for work the next day."

Once inside, with the lights still off, he pressed her against the door, showering her with storm-like kisses, stealing her breath and composure.

At night, under the moonlight, her smooth back appeared graceful and delicate, her body glistening with a mysterious sheen under a thin coating of sweat.

Slowly, he backed away, holding her as they went to the bathroom.

The next day.

As soon as Cheng Qiaobei arrived at the company, he was accompanied into the office by a visibly hurried Deng Yan.

As soon as the door closed, Cheng Qiaobei was curious about what could frazzle the usually composed Deng Yan.

"What’s up?" Cheng Qiaobei asked.

Deng Yan said, "I received news this morning that the Jade Jiali’s Li River, Yilan, and Xiyue branches have announced closures."

Cheng Qiaobei raised his eyebrows. Closing Yilan and Xiyue might be understandable, but Li River was a store he personally grew, backed by resources from a 5A-rated tourist area; how could this happen?

He asked, "Is the news reliable?"

Deng Yan said, "It’s internal information, very reliable."

Despite Deng Yan having left, he still had employees with significant ties to him from the original company.

Cheng Qiaobei furrowed his brows. His first independent project was the Li River Hotel, and now with Li River closed, he felt uneasy, wanting to know the reason.

Cheng Qiaobei asked, "Find out why the Li River store closed."

Deng Yan: "Understood, I’ll update you before the end of the day."
