Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Obtaining the Certificate

Deng Yan brought documents to Cheng Qiaobei’s office, "Cheng, these two contracts are for new partner stores, requiring your signature."

Cheng Qiaobei took the contracts, browsed through them, signed at the designated place but didn’t immediately hand them over.

Suddenly, he looked up and asked Deng Yan, "Why are you wearing yesterday’s shirt?"

Deng Yan maintained a calm and composed demeanor, saying, "It’s not yesterday’s."

"Haha..." Cheng Qiaobei chuckled, leaning back in his chair while casually scrutinizing him, and playfully asked, "Did I remember incorrectly?"

Deng Yan’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, and he gave the most awkward excuse of his life, "...It rained heavily last night, I stayed at Wei Lai’s place to avoid the rain."

"Avoid the rain? How long did you stay?"

"..."

Deng Yan looked at Cheng Qiaobei, seeming unwilling to let him off easily.

"...All night."

"Speak earlier and you could’ve been done," Cheng Qiaobei handed over the documents, but when Deng Yan was about to take them, he suddenly pulled back, eyes serious, and said solemnly, "If you dare treat Wei Lai badly, I’ll be the first to not let you off."

Deng Yan responded sincerely, "I won’t. I’ve already told her to move in with me."

This wasn’t the answer Cheng Qiaobei wanted.

Deng Yan paused, "I plan to be serious with Wei Lai, not just playing around. Once this busy period is over, I intend for our parents to meet."

Cheng Qiaobei handed the documents to him, "When you two get married, I’ll give you a big red envelope."

Deng Yan smiled warmly, "Alright."

Early Saturday morning, Deng Yan went with a moving company to help Wei Lai move.

Wei Lai had also returned her place. She had originally signed a rental contract, and the landlord refunded the remaining four months of rent, but deducted the deposit due to her breach.

Initially, she didn’t plan to move in, but she couldn’t resist Deng Yan’s repeated requests, and since he needed to pick her up daily, it was time-consuming.

On June 1st, Wei Lai and Deng Yan went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get their certificate.

Neither of their parents were around, but they had established their careers in Danjiang and planned to live there in the future.

As for the marital home, Deng Yan’s property was purchased last year, and Wei Lai liked the decoration, so they didn’t plan to renovate, though Wei Lai decided to replace his straight-man aesthetic with her preferred style for some soft furnishings.

The wedding was held separately in each hometown at the request of both families.

The good news for the company kept coming, with former team members Qi Yuan, Shen Xiwen, and Meng Yanan gradually joining.

As for Ye Shu and Chi Jiayu, they were still out of town negotiating with two hotels, expected to return to the company in a couple of days with good news.

The office island area, previously quiet and lifeless, became bustling with activity, only a little over a month later.

Cheng Qiaobei was always busy, with increasing complaints as more hotels joined. He decided to immediately start store inspections, ensuring that individual neglect doesn’t damage Eastern First-class’s reputation.

After work, Chen Ningxi began her solitary life.

She placed the food on the table, took a couple of bites then put it down; even though the room wasn’t large, it suddenly felt unusually empty.

She went to the kitchen, grabbed an insulated lunch box, packed the cooked meals, and headed out with the lunch box in hand.

As Chen Ningxi exited the elevator, she could see the lights on at the entrance of Eastern First-class from afar.

She entered and saw a stranger’s face, who was equally startled.

"Who are you looking for?"

Just as Chen Ningxi was about to answer, Wei Lai walked over, "Sister-in-law, why are you here?" She introduced her to Qi Yuan, "Qi Yuan, call her sister-in-law."

Qi Yuan responded, "Hello, sister-in-law, Cheng is in the office."

Chen Ningxi smiled, "You all haven’t finished work yet?"

Qi Yuan said, "There are some issues at two partner stores, we’re dealing with them now. Sister-in-law, I have to get back to work."

"Go ahead, don’t let me hold you up," Chen Ningxi said to Wei Lai, "You go and work too, don’t worry about me."

Wei Lai, "Sister-in-law, I’ll get back to work then."

The office door of Cheng Qiaobei was tightly closed. Chen Ningxi knocked before entering, and Cheng Qiaobei’s voice came through the door.

"Come in."

Chen Ningxi pushed the door open. Cheng Qiaobei was frowning, looking displeased as he made a phone call.

"We signed the partnership contract, so with the contract, the service quality demanded by Eastern First-class must be fully implemented."

The person on the other end seemed to be making excuses, but Cheng Qiaobei sternly replied, "The company provides training, that’s no excuse. It’s your problem for not reporting new employees for training, not mine. ...Alright, since it happened, I’ll send someone for training tomorrow; you must find a way to appease the guests."

He hung up the phone, immediately softening his demeanor upon seeing Chen Ningxi.

"Honey, what brings you here?"

Chen Ningxi placed the lunch box on the table and helped tidy up his cluttered desk, "Brought you dinner."

Cheng Qiaobei said, "It’s quite far, you shouldn’t have bothered. I can eat when I get back."

Chen Ningxi said, "When you get back, it would probably be midnight again."

Cheng Qiaobei placed his files aside to free up space, "Have you eaten?"

Chen Ningxi said, "I haven’t eaten either."

Cheng Qiaobei paused while opening the lunch box, "Why haven’t you eaten?"

Chen Ningxi said, "It feels meaningless eating alone at home."

Cheng Qiaobei suddenly realized he had been working overtime at the company for almost a month.

"Honey, I’ve neglected you."

Chen Ningxi said, "I know you’re busy, that’s why I came."

While eating, Chen Ningxi suddenly winced in pain, "Ouch..."

"What’s wrong?" Cheng Qiaobei asked nervously.

Chen Ningxi clutched her lower abdomen, "Probably starting."

Cheng Qiaobei said, "Let’s head back after finishing."

Chen Ningxi waved her hand, "I’m fine, you continue, it’ll pass soon."

But the pain didn’t subside and instead intensified.

Cheng Qiaobei delegated the follow-up work to Deng Yan, then left the company with Chen Ningxi.

In the car, Chen Ningxi curled up against the passenger seat, and Cheng Qiaobei said, "Last time it wasn’t this painful, was it?"

"No," Chen Ningxi shook her head.

"Let’s go straight to the hospital and check," Cheng Qiaobei drove towards the hospital.

Chen Ningxi said, "No need, we have painkillers at home. The hospital would prescribe painkillers anyway."

Cheng Qiaobei worriedly said, "Tomorrow, let’s go to Ningkou."

"It’s not that serious, it’ll pass in a couple of days," Chen Ningxi said.

Cheng Qiaobei furrowed his brow, "No, this time, listen to me. We should have gone for a check-up long ago, just got caught up in my work and forgot."

At home, Cheng Qiaobei settled her in, went to the kitchen to make brown sugar ginger tea, and provided heat therapy.

"How’s it now?" Cheng Qiaobei asked.

Chen Ningxi was sweating from the pain, but to relieve Cheng Qiaobei’s worries, she said, "A bit better."

Cheng Qiaobei sat at the bedside, both worried and anxious, "Don’t lie, you’re drenched in sweat still saying you’re better."

Early the next morning, Cheng Qiaobei called Deng Yan, discussed the day’s coordination work.

"I’m taking Ning Xi to Ningkou," he didn’t specify what for, and Deng Yan didn’t pry, knowing well that his mother lived there.
