In Milan, Cheng Qiaobei received a call from Deng Yan and learned that a worker had been injured during the Zhoushan hotel’s variety show filming. Concerned, he immediately contacted Lin Hanrui to inquire about the situation.

Cheng Qiaobei asked, "How is the worker now?"

"You found out."

"What are you saying, how could I not know?"

Lin Hanrui realized it too; it was his hotel, and any incident had to be reported to him.

"Nothing too serious, a few stitches on the head, a broken arm. He’s in the hospital now."

"The worker has insurance, right?"

"Yes." Changing the subject, "But the hospitalization fee needs to be prepaid. Reimbursement will come later."

Cheng Qiaobei asked, "How much was paid?"

"Not much, the doctor asked for ten thousand upfront."

Cheng Qiaobei said, "Will further treatment be needed?"

Lin Hanrui: "There’s also a second surgery to take out the steel plate from his arm."

Cheng Qiaobei knew money was tight, "When Ning Xi finishes work, I’ll have her bring you some money. Are you at the construction site or the hospital?"

Cheng Qiaobei: "Heal the worker’s injuries and reassure the family. If you need anything else, contact me. My flight returns Saturday, arriving Sunday."

Lin Hanrui: "Send me the flight number, I’ll pick you up."

Cheng Qiaobei: "No need, someone will pick me up. You still have to run back and forth between the construction site and the hospital."

After hanging up, Lin Hanrui sighed long with his phone in hand.

Liang Lei, beside him, said, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll leave."

Liang Lei: "Spare me these meaningless apologies. I have things to do, I’m leaving."

Liang Lei said, "I’ve given you many chances; you just didn’t seize them."

Liang Lei said, "Don’t go. My parents are not in Danjiang; they’re traveling."

Lin Hanrui: "When will they be back?"

Liang Lei said, "I don’t know. They’re going wherever they want, without a set date."

"!" This was troublesome. Without meeting Liang Lei’s parents, how could the marriage be settled?

Worry weighed on Lin Hanrui’s mind. He couldn’t just call and introduce himself to her elders; it seemed too informal.

His tone carried a plea, "Let me know as soon as they’re back. I’ll visit them right away."

Liang Lei didn’t answer, and Lin Hanrui felt even less secure.

"Leizi," he gently nudged her, "let me know when they return."

Liang Lei hung her head, expressionless.

Suddenly remembering, Lin Hanrui asked, "By the way, are you feeling unwell?"

Finally, he remembered to care about her health. Liang Lei said, "Nothing uncomfortable, no feeling."

"How did you find out?" Lin Hanrui asked.

Liang Lei said, "The company organized a physical examination."

"Do your colleagues know?"

Liang Lei shook her head, "No one knows. The examination report is confidential."

Lin Hanrui nodded, carefully observing Liang Lei’s expression, "What are you thinking?"

Liang Lei’s gaze slid over, her anger clearly rising again.

"What do you mean?"

"Uh, don’t misunderstand, I just mean if you want to have the baby, we should get married quickly. If not, I’ll go with you, take care of you."

Rationally, she chose not to keep it, yet emotionally, she hesitated.

Liang Lei had to confront the idea of a life growing inside her, whether to keep it or not, it was a cruel question.

Her phone rang; looking at the number, Liang Lei said, "The director is calling me. I need to go."

"Take this." In a desperate gesture, Lin Hanrui shoved the engagement ring into her hand. Liang Lei looked down, her expression souring. She placed the ring back in his hand, "Lin Hanrui, enough."

With that, Liang Lei angrily walked away.

"Aiya..." Lin Hanrui scratched his head in frustration. Just as he was about to get out of the car, he saw the bank card on the seat.

Liang Lei was tough on the outside but soft inside, especially towards him. Thinking about his foolish behavior earlier, he wished he could slap himself.

Chen Ningxi followed Cheng Qiaobei’s instructions, took out fifty thousand from the home safe, and brought it to Lin Hanrui.

In the afternoon, he had hired a caregiver, and the worker’s family had arrived. He left them some money for daily expenses but agreed that daily meal allowances had limits, and medical costs would be covered by him. They needed to keep any receipts involving fees for future reimbursements.

He still had to visit the Zhoushan construction site the night; Lin Hanrui waited for Chen Ningxi in the hospital parking lot.

Seeing her car pull in, Lin Hanrui got out and walked towards her.

After Chen Ningxi got in the car, she handed him a bag of money, "If it’s not enough, contact me again."

Lin Hanrui nodded, "Okay, thanks."

"How’s it going with Liang Lei?" Chen Ningxi was still worried about their issues.

Lin Hanrui sighed deeply, "Sigh... I messed it up."

Chen Ningxi: "Didn’t settle things? Did you upset her again?"

Lin Hanrui replied helplessly, "Yeah."

Chen Ningxi was puzzled, "What happened? Didn’t you say everything was good between you two? How did things get messed up again?"

Lin Hanrui recounted the whole situation, mentioning how he had forcibly placed the ring in her hand before she left, and Chen Ningxi immediately shook her head in disapproval, in a tone of exasperation:

"Lin Hanrui, I can’t believe it. Is this how you propose?"

Lin Hanrui pleaded, "Ning Xi, I have too much going on and I’m a mess. Could you help me, talk to Liang Lei?"

There were feelings between them, just that some issues had cropped up recently. If Liang Lei didn’t care for Lin Hanrui, she wouldn’t have worried enough to bring him her bank card for an emergency. She still couldn’t let him go, but being strong-willed, she couldn’t get past the hurdle in her heart.

Chen Ningxi agreed, "Okay, I’ll give it a try."
