Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Battle Again Next Time

He Yunyi didn’t expect to be intercepted on the very first shot. His pride was hurt, and he didn’t even bend down to pick up the shuttlecock. Instead, he flicked it up with his racket and hit it toward the other side of the net.

The two went back and forth, with He Yunyi running all over the court trying to keep up with Cheng Qiaobei. But since Chen Ningxi was present, he kept going despite being out of breath.

At this moment, no one was paying attention to the score. Everyone was focused on how long He Yunyi could keep it up.

Chen Ningxi knew He Yunyi well; back in school, he was always particularly competitive. Now, being thrashed in front of everyone and having to chase down shots all over the court, there was no way he would swallow this indignity or admit defeat.

Just as He Yunyi dove again to save a shot, he fell hard to the ground, and the shuttle landed inbounds.

Chen Ningxi, suppressing pain, quickly got up and asked with concern, "He Yunyi, are you okay? Stop playing."

He Yunyi forced himself up, gasping for breath, and said, "I’m fine, I can continue."

"Stop playing, it’s enough," Chen Ningxi advised.

He Yunyi looked across the net at his opponent, who stared back arrogantly, seeming to wait for him to verbally concede.

Seeing that he couldn’t be persuaded, Chen Ningxi showed a pained expression and said, "Stop playing, I’m hurt."

He Yunyi was suddenly alarmed, inspecting her up and down, "Where are you hurt?"

Chen Ningxi said, "My knee just took a hit, it hurts to walk."

"Why didn’t you say so earlier?" He Yunyi waved his racket at his opponent, "Next time."

He Yunyi packed up their sports bags, slung them over his shoulder, and supported Chen Ningxi’s arm as they walked out of the court. Cheng Qiaobei caught up in a few steps, "Your racket."

"Oh, I almost forgot." Chen Ningxi was about to accept it when He Yunyi took it for her, smiling, "You play well."

Cheng Qiaobei noticed his hand still supported Chen Ningxi’s forearm, withdrew his gaze, and his face imperceptibly revealed a trace of displeasure as he replied nonchalantly, "Not bad, depends on the opponent."

He Yunyi was momentarily taken aback but maintained adult composure, bidding farewell to Cheng Qiaobei before leaving with Chen Ningxi.

As they reached the entrance of the sports hall, He Yunyi sensed someone following and turned to see the person he had just played with.

Cheng Qiaobei walked up to Chen Ningxi’s side, "Let me take you to the hospital."

He Yunyi was surprised, "I have a car."

Cheng Qiaobei said, "My car is right at the entrance downstairs, it’s close."

Just as He Yunyi was about to speak, he remembered that he had parked his car at the back exit of the sports hall for convenience, which would take a five-minute walk to reach.

He asked Chen Ningxi, "Do you want to sit on the steps here and wait while I get the car?"

Not waiting for Chen Ningxi to agree, Cheng Qiaobei interrupted, "It’s not necessary, don’t be so formal with me, we’re old acquaintances."

He Yunyi was puzzled about whether they knew each other, but the other party had already admitted it.

He looked at Chen Ningxi, seemingly waiting for her answer, and Chen Ningxi said, "It’s nothing serious, I’ll drive myself home and rest."

"How can that be?"

"How can that be?"

Both men said simultaneously, making Chen Ningxi unsure what to do. She looked left and right, seeing their eyes full of anticipation, as if waiting for her to make a choice like concubines waiting for favor.

Unable to withstand the gaze of the two men, Chen Ningxi walked through the middle and quickly headed toward her car.

"Chen Ningxi, take it easy," He Yunyi worried she might get injured again and jogged to catch up.

Cheng Qiaobei leisurely followed behind, unconcerned as long as Chen Ningxi didn’t get in the other’s car.

"It’s fine, I feel much better now," Chen Ningxi explained to He Yunyi as she walked, "Really."

He Yunyi was still worried, "I’ll still take you to the hospital, don’t take this lightly."

"No need, no need." Chen Ningxi unlocked her car from afar, "If it were serious, even if you didn’t urge me, I’d have to go to the hospital."

She opened the door, placed the sports bag on the back seat, and sat in the driver’s seat, saying to He Yunyi, "You’re tired too, go home and rest early."

He Yunyi leaned on the car window, cautiously reminding, "Alright, but if you feel unwell, call me immediately and I’ll take you to the hospital."

"Okay," Chen Ningxi smiled slightly and rolled up the window.

The car drove past Cheng Qiaobei, Chen Ningxi honked, and Cheng Qiaobei raised a hand to signal, watching her leave.

He Yunyi walked up to Cheng Qiaobei, "What’s your name, man?"

He answered confidently, "Cheng Qiaobei."

He Yunyi, searching his memory for the name while extending his hand, said, "My surname is He, as in congratulation. I was Ningxi’s classmate for three years in high school, I was the class president, and she was the league secretary."

The next part was for Cheng Qiaobei to explain how they knew each other.

But Cheng Qiaobei wouldn’t meet his expectations and even took a jab at him, "You only play badminton with classmates at night? And it’s with female classmates? Playing them is boring. If you want to play in the future, find me. The competition between men is exciting, right? Wasn’t tonight a thrill? Didn’t it feel exhilarating?"

"..." Was he okay?

He Yunyi was troubled, not knowing what to say.

To further annoy him, Cheng Qiaobei took out his phone, "Why don’t we add on WeChat? Easy to arrange a game?"

He Yunyi didn’t want to know him, let alone play with him, politely declined, "Sorry, I didn’t bring my phone, left it at home."

"Ah, what a pity." Cheng Qiaobei pretended to sigh regretfully, "I felt pretty good playing with you just now. By the way, Chen Ningxi has my WeChat. If you want to contact me, you can have her pass the message."

He Yunyi’s eyes betrayed surprise, "Really, well, if I want to play, I’ll have her find you."

Cheng Qiaobei said goodbye, "See you next time."

After speaking, he turned and got into a business car to leave.

Chen Ningxi had just reached home when the doorbell rang.

She activated the video phone and saw Cheng Qiaobei in the display, asking, "Why are you here?"

Cheng Qiaobei raised a bag, jangling it.

Chen Ningxi asked, "What?"

Cheng Qiaobei said, "Home doctor, service at your door."

Chen Ningxi blinked, wanting to see what trick he was playing, and unlocked the door to let him in.

When Cheng Qiaobei entered, he saw him carrying a bag of medication and bandages, along with boxes of oral medicines.

"Seriously, you went to buy me medicine?"

Cheng Qiaobei snorted, "Wishful thinking, it’s from my sports bag."

He briskly walked to the living room, laid out the medication from the plastic bag, "Come over, let me explain."

Chen Ningxi approached the coffee table, hearing Cheng Qiaobei explain the medicine, "This one, specifically for knee injuries, including old ones, take two pills once each morning and night. Rub the medicated oil in your hands to warm it and press it on your knee, repeat five or six times. It will feel burning at first, but it will get better. There’s also medical corrective tape to use following the instructions. It will help reduce pressure on the meniscus so you won’t hurt as much. Got that?"

Not getting a response, Cheng Qiaobei turned to see Chen Ningxi staring at him warily.

He rubbed his arms, "Why are you looking at me like that at night? Doesn’t it look like you’re hungry and want to eat me?"

Chen Ningxi raised a medicine bottle and Cheng Qiaobei pointed at the bottle in her hand, "They cost a few thousand each, if you break it, you pay."

"You..." Chen Ningxi gritted her teeth, "You should leave."

Cheng Qiaobei tutted and shook his head, mumbling as he walked, "Wow, use it and throw it away, this woman is ruthless."

Chen Ningxi took a deep breath, trying to control her impending anger, "Cheng Qiaobei, do you always look for validation here because you win every argument?"

Cheng Qiaobei opened the door, wearing a look of a father heartbroken by a child, "I kindly brought you medicine, and you misunderstand me. Wait here, I’ll jump into the Danjiang River when I leave the community."

Chen Ningxi clasped her hands, "Finally, peace."

Before closing the door, Cheng Qiaobei left one more remark, "As if you could do that."
