Chapter 168 At Your Disposal
Chapter 168: Chapter 168 At Your Disposal
Chen Ningxi received a call from Cheng Qiaobei right before leaving work.
"I had lunch with Lin Hanrui and drank too much, can you come pick me up?"
"Sure, how much did you drink?" Chen Ningxi held the phone between her shoulder and ear, while quickly tidying up the files on her desk. The person on the other end said, "Five bottles."
Five bottles was too much?
Who’s he kidding!
Chen Ningxi didn’t expose him, "Wait for me."
She hung up the phone and walked out of the office, running into Secretary Lei Dechang in the corridor, who stopped her.
"Manager Chen."
Chen Ningxi paused, "Secretary Lei."
Lei Dechang handed her a document, "This is the draft of the promotional content for tomorrow’s safety training activity. I’m not sure if these points are okay. Have a look. If they’re good, I’ll go ahead with them. By the way, you have time tomorrow, right? Can you say a few words to everyone?"
Chen Ningxi took it, knowing this activity was always Secretary Lei’s responsibility for the regular meetings, and she feared she might overshadow if she spoke too much. Besides, Lei Dechang was particularly concerned about appearances.
So, by calling her specifically, it wasn’t to check the promotional content but to have her attend the meeting, reflecting well on the work he was responsible for.
Chen Ningxi said somewhat reluctantly, "Secretary Lei, this draft is fine. I won’t be speaking though; the safety training aspect is crucial and highly regarded by leaders at all levels. You’ve been handling this work all along, knowing the details. No one understands it better than you do. If I speak, I won’t have much to add. How about I just sit in and learn from you?"
Hearing this, Lei Dechang was pleased, "Sure, why not, tomorrow at nine, third-floor conference room."
Chen Ningxi handed the draft back to him, "Alright, I’ll remember."
Leaving the power authority compound, Chen Ningxi headed straight for Yinxing Lake Road. Upon passing a pharmacy, she went in to buy some alcohol-relief sachets. The last time this happened, he used these to alleviate the discomfort.
From a distance, she already saw Cheng Qiaobei’s car parked in front, and Cheng Qiaobei was timing it perfectly as he awaited behind the glass door.
Seeing her car pull up, he told the person inside, "Ning Xi’s here, I’m leaving."
Lin Hanrui quickly followed him out to see him off.
As soon as Chen Ningxi parked, Cheng Qiaobei and Lin Hanrui came out, appearing sober aside from slightly flushed faces, showing no obvious signs of drunkenness.
Cheng Qiaobei opened the car door and got into the passenger seat, Lin Hanrui leaned on the car roof, telling the person in the driver’s seat.
"We drank three cases, let him sleep a bit more when he gets home."
"..." Three cases? Not five bottles?
"..." Shit.
Cheng Qiaobei was speechless, "Move your hand away, you get talkative once you drink."
Chen Ningxi’s expression remained calm as she smiled at the person outside the car, "Got it, we’re leaving."
Lin Hanrui raised his eyebrows at Cheng Qiaobei, a good buddy, "Bye-bye."
With that push, he not only closed the car door but also shut the door on Cheng Qiaobei’s chance of self-destruction.
In the car, silence reigned, Chen Ningxi kept her eyes on the road ahead, while Cheng Qiaobei kept stealing glances at her, trying to gauge her expression.
While waiting at a red light at the intersection, Chen Ningxi still didn’t say a word, and the thirty-something second light seemed torturous for Cheng Qiaobei.
He rested his elbow on the car window, his thumb and forefinger rubbing together unconsciously.
Unable to find a topic to break the oppressive atmosphere, Cheng Qiaobei noticed the alcohol-relief sachet in the storage box and picked it up, smiling as he asked her,
"You bought this for me?"
Chen Ningxi said, "Mm-hmm."
Cheng Qiaobei leaned on her shoulder, "Such a thoughtful wife, you’re so good to me."
Chen Ningxi said, "We’ll pass by another pharmacy later, I’ll buy another box."
"This is enough, this box can be taken three times." Cheng Qiaobei still leaned against her shoulder.
Chen Ningxi said, "One sachet relieves three bottles of alcohol, and you guys drank three cases today, one case is twelve bottles, three cases are thirty-six bottles. Eighteen bottles each, so shouldn’t I buy another box?"
"..." Cheng Qiaobei was left speechless.
The red light turned green, and Chen Ningxi stepped on the gas pedal.
Cheng Qiaobei said with a smile, "Lin Hanrui had some troubling stuff, I drank a bit more with him."
Chen Ningxi wasn’t unreasonable and asked, "What’s the matter?"
Cheng Qiaobei said, "His company, recently faced difficulties, people leaving, not much work, and funding may be tight next month. He used all his savings to start the company, and now his finances are low."
"So serious." Chen Ningxi asked, "Is the problem solvable?"
Cheng Qiaobei admitted, "Not so easy, the other company has connections, and most of the market share in Danjiang went to them, leaving little for Lin Hanrui. Forcing him to pick up the scraps doesn’t do justice to his talent."
Chen Ningxi could understand, a hero without a place to prove oneself.
"Without business, how do you make money? Keeping the company running costs daily, right?" she asked.
Cheng Qiaobei didn’t bring up the money, "His parents have it, they might back him up for now."
"Can his parents give it to him?" From what Cheng Qiaobei said, Lin Hanrui’s company seemed precarious.
Cheng Qiaobei said, "They can, his parents spoil him."
"Does Liang Lei know?"
"I didn’t mention it to her."
"Oh..." Chen Ningxi nodded knowingly, also understanding, "Will Lin Hanrui tell Liang Lei?"
Cheng Qiaobei shook his head and felt a twinge of pain as he did so, "Ugh... I’m not sure."
Chen Ningxi glanced at him through the rearview mirror, "If you feel unwell, just rest; I’ll wake you when we get home."
He indeed needed rest, having drunk so much made him drowsy, and he almost fell asleep at Lin Hanrui’s.
Cheng Qiaobei rested his head back, holding his arms, "Okay, I’ll nap a bit."
The car drove smoothly, allowing Cheng Qiaobei to fall into a deeper sleep.
Upon reaching the underground parking lot of their residential area, Chen Ningxi gently nudged him, "Wake up, we’re here."
Cheng Qiaobei opened his eyes, exhaling alcohol breath onto Chen Ningxi’s face, which nearly made her retch.
"Ugh..." Chen Ningxi covered her mouth, and Cheng Qiaobei stared at her, "Are you pregnant?"
Chen Ningxi rolled her eyes at him, "Pregnant with six? You drank so much, and now the car reeks of alcohol. If we ran into the police checking for drunk driving, the tester would just go off by itself."
Cheng Qiaobei chuckled, "Pregnant with six, seven, as long as it’s yours."
Chen Ningxi unbuckled her seatbelt to get out, but once outside, the person in the passenger seat remained still. She walked over to Cheng Qiaobei’s side, opened the car door, and asked,
"Get out."
He didn’t move, smiled wickedly, and crooked a finger at her, "Wife, help me unbuckle the seatbelt."
Handsome men can even make drunken antics look good.
Chen Ningxi didn’t want to argue with him anymore. As she leaned over to undo his seatbelt, Cheng Qiaobei abruptly pulled her into an embrace.
"Mm..."
Chen Ningxi’s hands pushed against his chest, but her nape was firmly held by him as the taste of alcohol swept over her, making her dizzy and disoriented.
"Mm..." Cheng Qiaobei’s body stiffened.
His gaze fell downward as Chen Ningxi’s hand gripped below his belt. She squinted, "Drink too much, and you get cocky. Go upstairs, and watch me deal with you today."
Cheng Qiaobei already reacted, a mischievous smile tugged at his lips and with playful, wicked desire in his eyes, he spread his arms wide, saying,
"At your disposal."
