Fated Love With the Billionaire
Chapter 148: Getting Married

Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Getting Married

As Cheng Qiaobei furrowed his brow, recalling the lyrics just moments ago, he caught Chen Ningxi stealthily signaling a nine.

Without showing any sign, he discreetly withdrew his gaze and silently wrote down a "9" on paper.

Liang Lei said, "Next question, please listen to the song."

Music Player, "I hope the wishes I made bloom, escorting dreams of those days through storms, cherry blossoms at my fingertips writing someone’s prime, with passionate love mingled with elegance."

Liang Lei, "Please state what the wish is?"

Damn!

Lin Hanrui’s eyes almost bulged out, "Liang Lei, ...one should have a sense of decency."

Liang Lei gave him a teasing look, "Come on, use your brain."

Cheng Qiaobei calmly wrote down four words, and as Lin Hanrui tilted his head to take a peek at his paper, Liang Lei penalized him, "Copying someone else’s answers, you’re out."

"I..." Lin Hanrui choked on half a word.

Having his paper confiscated by Liang Lei, Lin Hanrui could only say to Cheng Qiaobei, "Sorry, brother, you’re the last hope."

Cheng Qiaobei gave him a deep look, "Shouldn’t have trusted you, should’ve found someone smart."

"I..." Lin Hanrui pinched the area between his nose with his hand, then made a face, and Liang Lei patted his arm, "Critical moment and you can’t push forward."

Liang Lei reached out and took Cheng Qiaobei’s paper; everyone in the room, including the photographer, pointed their cameras at the paper, afraid of missing any detail.

It turned out that he got a perfect score in the previous IELTS listening section, and surprisingly, answered all correctly in the song recognition questions as well.

Liang Lei raised her eyelids, "Perfect score."

"See that, a perfect score, I didn’t even need to step in as a groomsman," Lin Hanrui chimed in from the side.

Liang Lei said, "Your only role as a groomsman is to trip people up."

"I..."

Being shot down three times in ten minutes left him speechless, but it brought about laughter from everyone.

Cheng Qiaobei said, "Can I go in now?"

Liang Lei stepped aside, "Please, go in. But if you want to take my best friend away, you have to find the wedding shoes first. You can’t leave without them."

Lin Hanrui volunteered eagerly, patting his chest, "Leave it to me, I’ll do it."

Seeing Lin Hanrui brimming with confidence, Cheng Qiaobei didn’t remain idle, "Quickly, let’s look together."

The two big men started searching the room for the wedding shoes. Although the room wasn’t big, every possible nook had been searched, yet no shoe was found.

Chen Ningxi admired Liang Lei’s skill; just as she had previously indicated, those hiding places for the shoes had been turned over, even the wardrobe top and lampshade were searched, yet still no wedding shoes.

As Cheng Qiaobei was just about to look towards Chen Ningxi, Liang Lei blocked his view, "Hey, hey, hey, bride and groom, you both have to follow the game rules, no cheating."

Chen Ningxi suppressed a laugh, while Cheng Qiaobei scratched his eyebrow and looked around again. Seeing the curtain swayed by the wind, combined with Chen Ningxi’s cryptic eye signal earlier, he walked straight to the window.

With the advantage of height, Cheng Qiaobei caught sight of the wedding shoes hanging under the window. He pulled the shoe inside and said to Lin Hanrui,

"Don’t forget to thank the bridesmaid."

Lin Hanrui took the hint, quickly pulled out a red envelope from his pocket, "Thank you, bridesmaid."

Liang Lei accepted it with a smile, then whispered in Lin Hanrui’s ear, "Your fighting strength is too weak."

"You..." Angrily, he swept his gaze at her, then pulled her close, lowering his voice in a husky tone, "You better not cry tonight."

She laughed, her face radiant, and it stirred something within him.

Chen Ningxi withdrew her gaze, thinking if her best friend could also find happiness, it would make her happier.

Cheng Qiaobei knelt on one knee, cradling Chen Ningxi’s ankle to put on her shoe. Following the customs and ceremonies that came next, it wasn’t until Cheng Qiaobei picked her up, ready to leave her family’s house, that Chen Ningxi’s eyes became misty, and Ye Yujun was already in tears.

Once inside the car, Chen Ningxi stared at her parents outside, her father supporting her tear-stricken mother. She lowered the car window to hold Ye Yujun’s hand, "Mom..."

She called out but couldn’t manage another word.

Chen Weichuan lightly squeezed Ye Yujun’s shoulder, holding back his tears, "Let go, don’t delay her good moment."

Ye Yujun felt an endless reluctance and emotion; the daughter she had raised for over twenty years was leaving to get married, and it was so hard to let go.

As firecrackers went off, the wedding car carrying Chen Ningxi drove slowly away.

Relatives all praised Chen Weichuan’s composure, commenting on how other fathers cry more than their daughters when marrying them off. But he hadn’t shed a tear.

Yet no one knew that once inside the car, Chen Weichuan turned away to secretly dab at his eyes with a tissue.

What father is unmoved, yet some fatherly love is more profound and reserved, not easily displayed, but should his daughter be wronged, he’d be the first to defend her.

Meanwhile, at the Zhoushan Jade Jiali Hotel.

Earlier that morning, Cheng Qiaobei arranged for Ding Yuan to be sent to the hotel, allowing her to rest in Cheng Qiaobei’s room, and Wei Lai, who knew Ding Yuan well, kept her company for a while.

Upon hearing the commotion downstairs, Wei Lai remarked, "Mrs. Ding, we should head down, the wedding car is here."

Ding Yuan followed Wei Lai downstairs, and friends and family attending the wedding began to arrive. In the blink of an eye, parking spots at the entrance filled up, with the security guards stepping in as parking attendants, directing incoming cars to the adjacent parking lot.

Cheng Qiaobei first brought Chen Ningxi to the bride’s dressing room to change into a long trailing white gown, with makeup and hairstyle needing redoing.

As Ding Yuan exited the elevator, she happened to see Cheng Qiaobei; mother and son met in the lobby, and Ding Yuan asked, "Your dad didn’t come?"

Cheng Qiaobei looked at his watch, "He should be here soon."

Wei Lai and a few of Cheng Qiaobei’s friends were in the lobby, helping to greet guests, when a silver-gray Maybach parked at the entrance.

Cheng Qiaobei said to Ding Yuan,

"He’s here."

Although he didn’t mention any names, Ding Yuan knew who he meant, turned her face away contemptuously, not wanting to meet Cheng Xiangheng. But considering today was her son’s big day, she had to face it, even if she didn’t want to.

Cheng Qiaobei went to the door to greet Cheng Xiangheng, "Mom, wait here for me."

He quickly approached the car, opened the back door, and called out, "Mr. Cheng."

Cheng Xiangheng climbed out unruffled, seeing Cheng Qiaobei in a crisp suit, "Do you want me to attend as Mr. Cheng or as your father?"

Cheng Qiaobei leaned slightly, "If you don’t mind, I’d prefer you as my father."

Cheng Xiangheng had once advised him to address him as Mr. Cheng in public to prevent ill-intentioned people from exploiting their relationship to stir controversy.

Cheng Xiangheng withdrew his gaze, "Where’s the wedding taking place?"

Cheng Qiaobei stepped aside, gesturing politely, "This way, please."

Cheng Xiangheng had visited both the opening and inauguration of the hotel, so he was familiar with its layout. As soon as he entered the lobby, he spotted the stunning Ding Yuan. She was still as captivating as she was back then. Even in her middle age, she stood out shining brightly in the crowd.

Initially heading toward the lounge, Cheng Xiangheng instead turned his steps her way.
