Chapter 117: Chapter 117 Stop Messing Around

On the coffee table, Cheng Qiaobei’s phone rang, and Chen Ningxi saw the number was Lin Hanrui calling.

She took it to the kitchen, "Your phone."

Cheng Qiaobei couldn’t free his hands, "Answer it for me."

She pressed answer and placed the phone by Cheng Qiaobei’s ear, and he slightly turned his body, "What’s up?"

Lin Hanrui said, "What are you doing?"

"At my mother-in-law’s place, anything going on?" Cheng Qiaobei put the washed bowl on the drying rack.

Lin Hanrui said, "Is it convenient to talk?"

It would have been better if he hadn’t said that, because as soon as he did, the atmosphere immediately shifted, even the look in Chen Ningxi’s eyes carried some intriguing meaning.

It was now a matter of whether it was convenient to talk, and he couldn’t say it wasn’t convenient.

"Convenient, what’s the matter?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Chen Ningxi’s head leaned in, and Cheng Qiaobei could only silently pray that he wouldn’t say anything foolish.

Lin Hanrui asked, "How’s your relationship with Liang Lei? Are you guys close?"

Mentioning her best friend, Chen Ningxi perked up her ears.

Cheng Qiaobei answered truthfully, "It’s alright, we’re in the same rock climbing club, no private contact, she’s really close with Ning Xi."

Lin Hanrui continued, "From your interactions, what’s your impression of her? Are her social connections complicated?"

In plain terms, he was asking if the girl was wild or messy with men.

Chen Ningxi looked at Cheng Qiaobei, waiting for his response.

But Liang Lei was Chen Ningxi’s best friend, what right did he have to pass judgment or discuss right from wrong?

Moreover, from an objective and factual perspective, Cheng Qiaobei wasn’t very familiar with Liang Lei, and it was even more inappropriate to casually discuss her best friend in front of Chen Ningxi, so he responded as briefly as possible,

"She’s a good person, cheerful, interacts well, why are you asking?"

The topic shifted, and Lin Hanrui realized that talking wasn’t convenient for Cheng Qiaobei, mistakenly thinking that Cheng Qiaobei was concealing something about Liang Lei.

"No big deal, I have a job, and if she’s reliable, I wanted to see if she might be interested."

Cheng Qiaobei was being completely honest, he felt that Liang Lei was genuinely good and straightforward, but when it came to work-related matters, he wasn’t entirely sure.

But he also understood that Lin Hanrui definitely misinterpreted his meaning, thinking he was deliberately withholding in Chen Ningxi’s presence.

Cheng Qiaobei said, "Regarding work, you’d better ask her directly. But personally, I find her very reliable."

"Got it, thanks."

After hanging up the phone, Chen Ningxi asked, "Why’s he inquiring about Liang Lei?"

Cheng Qiaobei knew well that Lin Hanrui was looking to hit on Liang Lei, but with what he understood about Liang Lei, he’d have to interest her first.

Liang Lei, like Chen Ningxi, wasn’t indiscriminate with men, they had their own set of standards and bottom lines.

Cheng Qiaobei said, "I think he’s interested in Liang Lei."

"If he’s interested, he should pursue her then." Chen Ningxi went to the fridge and took out a tub of ice cream, scooping a spoonful to feed to Cheng Qiaobei first, to which he replied, "He wants to understand Liang Lei better from different angles."

Chen Ningxi said as she ate, "You shouldn’t get to know someone through someone else’s words, but with your own eyes, right?"

Cheng Qiaobei wiped his hands, took off his apron, and hung it up, coming to sit by the dining table.

Facing each other, Chen Ningxi expressed, "If I only listened to what others said about you at first, we wouldn’t be together now."

Cheng Qiaobei agreed with this, nodding.

Chen Ningxi scooped another spoonful of ice cream, "But I only trust what I see with my own eyes, a person’s character is judged by their actions, their outlook on life through behavior and habits. Even if outsiders paint you as wonderful, and you act perfectly, you can’t keep it up forever without slipping. So my point is, if Lin Hanrui is genuinely interested in Liang Lei and wants to be serious with her, he should learn about her with his own eyes."

Cheng Qiaobei saw a bit of ice cream on the corner of her mouth, grabbed a tissue, and reached across the table to wipe it off for her.

"Who else could it be? My wife is truly insightful and open-minded."

"Really? Are you complimenting me now?"

"Of course."

Chen Ningxi’s eyes curved into crescents as she smiled, making Cheng Qiaobei’s heart swell with even more joy.

She sat opposite eating ice cream, while he sat on the other side watching her, never growing tired of it.

His gaze was too ambiguous, too intense; Chen Ningxi glanced at the people in the living room watching TV and a mischievous idea formed in her mind, she withdrew her foot from her slipper, lightly tracing it along his calf.

Cheng Qiaobei paused, looking down at her playful little foot under the table, and she mischievously rubbed his leg with her toes, grinning slyly.

He glanced again at the people in the living room, whispering, "Stop it."

Chen Ningxi rested her chin on her hand, her gaze sultry and enticing, while her foot grew bolder under the table, even reaching between his legs, as she bit her lip and chuckled, Cheng Qiaobei grabbed her ankle to keep her from moving further.

One hand typing on the screen, he then pushed the phone to her, as Chen Ningxi licked her ice cream spoon, glanced at the message.

[Cut it out, can’t do this at Mom’s place.]

It was rare for her to see him at a disadvantage, and she mouthed, "No way."

Cheng Qiaobei took the phone back, typed another line, and passed it back.

This time, when Chen Ningxi saw it, she mouthed, "You wouldn’t dare."

She playfully wiggled her ankle, but Cheng Qiaobei still didn’t let go, so Chen Ningxi called out, "Mom."

That one word, and Cheng Qiaobei instantly released her.

Ye Yujun asked, "What’s going on?"

Chen Ningxi said, "Next time you go to the supermarket, buy another tub of cantaloupe-flavored ice cream."

"Alright." Ye Yujun glanced at the clock, "It’s bedtime, try not to eat too many cold things."

Cheng Qiaobei narrowed his long eyes and pointed at her, Chen Ningxi smugly raised her eyebrows, "Okay."

She got up to throw away the empty ice cream container, glancing at the phone on the table.

[Hold on a bit later, don’t make a sound.]

After that, wherever she went, Cheng Qiaobei’s eyes followed.

Ye Yujun turned off the TV, preparing to rest, still not forgetting to remind them, "You two go to bed early too, work tomorrow."

Cheng Qiaobei nodded, "Got it, Mom, we’re heading to bed."

He pulled Chen Ningxi’s hand, "Let’s go."

When he said "let’s go," Chen Ningxi clearly saw the teasing and cunning light in his eyes.

Not serious, was he?!

Once inside the bedroom, he closed the door and turned off the light, the room was pitched dark, only the sound of rain pattering against the window, stretching their shadows across the bookshelf, appearing ghostly and indistinct.

Cheng Qiaobei hooked her neck, pulling her in front of him, their foreheads touching as he lowered his voice, enticingly.

"I’ll fulfill your request."

"Who asked you to?" Chen Ningxi felt a bunny jumping in her chest, beating wildly.

"Backed down?" Cheng Qiaobei teased with a laugh.

"Who backed down," Chen Ningxi retorted without backing down an inch, "My room’s not soundproof, if you’re not afraid my mom hearing, go ahead."

"Hiss..." Cheng Qiaobei squinted his eyes.

He slowly moved forward, as she gradually stepped back.

His large hand cradled her back, pressing her onto the bed, gently brushing over her shoulders, his thumb twisting the soft fabric at his fingertips, the rustling sound sending tingles down her spine.

His flirting skills really weren’t joking, each time effortlessly drawing her into the mood.

When he sensed her hesitation with his touch, having achieved the lesson’s purpose, Cheng Qiaobei naturally let her go, whispering tenderly by Chen Ningxi’s ear.

"Still want to mess around?"

Knowing he didn’t dare be too brazen, she now held the upper hand.

Her arms encircled his neck, pulling him down, her eyes shimmering in the dark as she initiated a kiss on his lips.
