Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 996 - Chapter 996 Chapter 996 The Greatest Wish Before Dying

Chapter 996: Chapter 996 The Greatest Wish Before Dying Chapter 996: Chapter 996 The Greatest Wish Before Dying Tomer, the butler, stood behind Sylvan Cheney; her gaze remained fixed on Qiana Childe’s photograph.

The woman in the photo was still very young, with an unwavering stubbornness shining through her eyes.

Tomer couldn’t help but sigh; it was such a pity that she had been so young when she jumped into the lake and committed suicide.

By then, Qiana’s depression had become uncontrollable and increasingly severe, the burden on her soul growing heavier.

It was a burden that no one else could share with her.

Before that year, the Cheney Residence was full of life; after that year, it was utterly cold and deserted.

Some had died, others had left, and it took Qiana years yet she never managed to come out of it.

At this thought, Tomer’s mind drifted to Yolanda Fern, the little girl who was injured in the tragedy.

The five-year-old girl might not have been killed, but the abuse she suffered was more painful than death itself.

Yolanda Fern was also a thorn in Qiana’s side, one that would always remain lodged there.

After the incident, Qiana would often talk to her about Yolanda, saying she was sorry for the little girl, so sorry…

Qiana made her promise to take good care of Yolanda and to give her anything she wanted.

Even more, Qiana had told Sylvan Cheney that he should marry Yolanda one day, to not let her suffer and to have Yolanda as their daughter-in-law.

As Tomer remembered these things, a deep, unspeakable sorrow welled up inside her.

It was such a shame that everything had changed afterward…

Yolanda was no longer the innocent little girl she once was; she had become ruthless, capable of using and scheming against others.

Tomer knew that she, too, had been used by Yolanda.

But now, even when she thought back on Yolanda, her heart was still filled with complex emotions.

After all, she couldn’t bring herself to hate her.

“Mr. Cheney, the Ximenez family truly deserved to die,” Tomer said as she looked at the tombstone, her voice filled with grief and despair, “If it hadn’t been for Patronus Ximenez, none of this would have happened.”

Had it not been for Patronus Ximenez, Qiana would definitely still be alive today, successful and thriving.

The Cheney Residence would definitely still be the harmonious, happy home it once was, and Yolanda wouldn’t have committed those unforgivable acts.

Those who lay beneath the earth should still all be alive!

The more Tomer thought, the more grief and anger she felt, with a helpless despair filling her heart.

That despair penetrated her whole body, like needles pricking her, causing pain in every limb and bone.

She was part of the Cheney Residence too; she could feel how desperate Qiana must have been back then.

Tears of raw sorrow were evident in Tomer’s eyes, bloodshot with grief.

“The young miss was so kind; why treat her like that? It’s unfair, utterly unfair…” Tomer wept openly.

When she had been at her wits’ end, it was Qiana who had taken her in.

She kept her as a maid, never once shortchanging her in food, clothing, or shelter.

Her heart, too, was tied to Qiana, serving her with all her might.

For a drop of kindness received, she repaid with a spring of gratitude.

Charles Mcintosh spoke softly, “Tomer, the past is past.”

“Mr. Mcintosh, are all the Ximenez family dead now?” asked Tomer.

Charles remained silent.

After a long pause, he nodded: “Yes.”

“That’s also karmic retribution; I knew Mr. Cheney wouldn’t let the young miss down. He would surely fulfill her last wish; it’s just a pity that the young miss is no longer here to see this.” Tomer wiped away her tears, “If the young miss knows this in the afterlife, she can rest in peace; this was her greatest desire before her death. Otherwise, how regretful she would have been…”

Under the searing sun, the graveyard was quiet and still.

The atmosphere was cold.

Only Tomer’s voice trailed away like threads of silk…

Throughout it all, Sylvan Cheney never spoke again.
