Chapter 1405: Chapter 1405: Sylvan Cheney holding a woman
Sylvan Cheney couldn’t bear to hear her talk about such sentimental things, so he freed a hand to rub her head: "Once you’re at Cheney Family, just stay in the president’s office."
"Are you busy today?"
"I have a meeting in the morning, the rest can be handled by Charles Mcintosh."
"Are there a lot of beauties at Cheney?"
"Plenty, but none as beautiful as you."
"..." Instantly, Jasmine Yale’s heart blossomed with joy, feeling greatly pleased.
Occasionally, Jasmine thought this man had a talent for pampering women.
Jasmine Yale propped her head on her hand, looking at the man driving.
His black suit was immaculate, his handsome profile clearly defined in the light streaming in, his contours deep and shadowed, time had polished his features to be more composed and restrained.
He was completely different from his younger years, but one thing had stayed the same; he had always been good-looking.
Sometimes, Jasmine could do nothing at all and just watch him all day.
Sylvan Cheney felt her tender gaze and spoke lightly, "What are you looking at?"
"Looking at you."
"Good-looking?"
"Good-looking," Jasmine Yale’s face flushed with a hint of red.
"I know."
Jasmine thought, this man really wasn’t modest at all.
Sunlight accompanied them on the journey, golden light poured down from the car windows, warm and beautiful.
Sylvan Cheney drove steadily, and Jasmine, propped up on her hand, soon dozed off against the window.
By the time they arrived at Cheney Family, she hadn’t woken up.
Sylvan Cheney parked his car in his private garage, wrapped a blanket around Jasmine Yale, and carried her towards the elevator.
President’s office.
Charles Mcintosh happened just to be carrying a stack of files upstairs when he looked up to see Sylvan Cheney holding a woman.
Jasmine Yale’s face was against Sylvan Cheney’s chest, so Charles couldn’t see her.
But he didn’t need to see to know who it was.
"Mr. Cheney," Charles approached.
"Hmm," Sylvan Cheney motioned for him to keep quiet.
He carried Jasmine into his resting room, covered her with a blanket, and then returned to the president’s office.
Charles handed Sylvan the files: "Mr. Cheney, I’ve taken care of the matters with the branch company merger."
Sylvan Cheney took the files, flipping through a few pages: "Good, pull out of a few projects here in Landon for now, proceed as we agreed. Prepare for the meeting later."
"Everything is ready," said Charles, "Why did you bring Miss Yale here?"
"She was getting bored at home."
"She shouldn’t be at Cheney."
"She doesn’t understand any of it," Sylvan spoke indifferently, "It’s fine."
Charles nodded, not saying anything else.
He knew Sylvan Cheney was a man of measure.
"Mr. Cheney, I heard that Harry Family’s company is having problems."
"I’ve heard too, a few workers died on a construction site, and there was a fire in a new building of theirs; Harry Family’s crisis PR is subpar, I hear the trouble is serious."
"Mr. Cheney, it’s said that someone is stirring the pot from behind, any idea which family?" Charles was curious.
Mr. Cheney hadn’t made a move against Harry Family, yet someone else had set their sights on Harry Family’s juicy piece of meat and struck first.
"Young Mr. Rowan is back in the country, making quite a big splash."
"Rowan Family?" Charles paused, "I heard Jesse Rowan is a spoiled rich kid, a wastrel well-acquainted with all vice."
Sylvan Cheney remained noncommittal.
He bowed his head and signed his name where necessary.
"Get ready to head downstairs for the meeting," Sylvan instructed calmly.
"Okay."
Charles left the president’s office.
In the resting room, Jasmine Yale stirred her arm in a daze.
As she opened her eyes, she saw through the floor-to-ceiling windows the splendid sunshine and blue sky, tranquil and serene.
How had she fallen asleep again this early in the morning?
