Chapter 1251: Chapter 1251: Boldly Hooking His Neck

Interrogation room.

Lilac Serval hadn’t even gotten a glimpse of Sylvan Cheney’s face and had to have someone deliver his clothes to him.

Sylvan Cheney stood by the window, lighting a cigarette.

Yacob Harry hadn’t released the evidence yet; it seemed he wasn’t bold enough to do so, still hesitating and reluctant.

The second trial naturally yielded nothing.

The light in the interrogation room was dim, heavy with stagnation.

Cold and isolated here, standing by the window, one could only see the endless white fog, no skyscrapers, no vehicles.

Sylvan Cheney’s complexion was haggard, a slight bluish stubble poking out from his chin, dark circles under his eyes as deep and endless as the rain outside.

His rigid figure stood in front of the window, his bleak shadow cast on the floor.

In such weather, the mood was always like the persistent rain, endlessly dreary.

The New Year was approaching, and it had been five years since they’d last celebrated it together.

If Yacob Harry decided to break the net this time, then there would be another ten years...

How long had they been together? Merely twelve years.

Last year, he had already pushed her towards Yukon Carbon.

There was no sense in regrets; what he couldn’t provide for her, naturally, someone else could.

Yukon suited her better.

She must be happier with Yukon.

Sylvan Cheney took a drag of his cigarette, the white smoke curling around his face.

Every time he used nicotine to numb his nerves, her face would emerge before his eyes.

Every New Year’s time, she was always the happiest.

Because she would be on winter break then, and he would take her out to have fun.

Before the New Year, he would even take her shopping for clothes.

While it was not often, he truly did accompany her to buy clothes.

Sylvan Cheney’s memory jumped erratically, as if a sprite in his mind refused to settle down.

Like—

The time during her high school years, one winter that was as cold as today.

There was this time she got top ten in her class on her finals and was over the moon.

That day, having gone to school to collect her report card, Jasmine Yale hopped and sang all the way back home with her backpack on.

"Mr. Cheney, guess whether I did well on this exam." As she entered the living room, she didn’t even change out of her house slippers before running across the white carpet towards him!

He was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper.

In those tranquil moments, bright sunshine filled the view from the window, freshly after a snowfall, everything enveloped in a bright, white glare.

There were no servants in the living room, and, taking advantage of her excited mood, she moved behind him and boldly hooked her arms around his neck.

She dared to hug him in such a moment.

Because... he was stingy with his hugs, disallowing them, especially after she started high school, not even a touch was allowed.

She didn’t understand why. Was he disgusted with her? But why would he be disgusted with her? She wasn’t ugly, and her clothes weren’t dirty...

Sylvan Cheney didn’t even lift his eyelids, continuing to read his paper, simply saying, "How far down the rankings?"

Jasmine Yale hooked her arms around his neck from behind and seeing that he didn’t push her away, her mood lifted even more as she playfully leaned on his shoulder, "If I tell you, is there a reward?"

The unique fragrance of a young girl wafted to his nose, sending a restless heat throughout Sylvan Cheney’s body, quickening his pulse.

His hands holding the newspaper ceased to turn, pausing.

He swallowed, his gaze darkening.

Jasmine Yale’s hair draped down, falling across his neck as the restless heat inside him spread like wildfire, uncontrollable.

"If you’re not going to say, I’m heading to the office." Sylvan Cheney closed the newspaper, his expression composed and calm.

Jasmine Yale quickly pressed down on her own hand, not letting him leave.
