Chapter 94
~Spring’s POV~
My phone slid halfway down my pillow, Chloe’s voice still chirping out in full volume. "Come on, Spring, give me details! Was it Storm? Oh gods, was it Jace?"
"Oh shit," I whispered.
Kaius slowly tilted his head. "Sex?"
Eryx’s expression darkened instantly. "With whom, Spring?"
I lunged for the phone, knocking over my pen, and muted Chloe, who was still talking animatedly to herself.
"It’s not what it sounds like," I said quickly, climbing off the bed with hands raised like I was about to be arrested.
I knew I was eighteen and already an adult, but the way they looked at me was like I was still twelve. Heaven knew I sighed.
Kaius narrowed his eyes. "It sounded like you were discussing sex with someone who clearly wasn’t one of us."
"What? No! Chloe’s just being... Chloe." I winced. "She always jumps to conclusions easily. Rather than ask about my date, she believed we... I..."
"You...?" Both of my brothers
Eryx crossed his arms. "And what conclusion was she jumping to that made her mention sex, mates, and a name list?"
"I didn’t sleep with anyone!" I half-shouted, cheeks burning so badly I could feel the heat up to my scalp. "We kissed. That’s it!"
Eryx blinked. "We?"
Kaius raised an eyebrow. "As in... more than one?"
I looked between them, eyes wide. "Oh god, please don’t make me spell it out."
Kaius’s lips quirked, clearly enjoying my discomfort. "Kissed how many, Spring? And yes, you have to spell it out."
"Four," I muttered.
"Four!" Eryx thundered. "All four?"
"Can you not make it sound like I’m out here racking up points like it’s a game show?" I snapped, crossing my arms.
Kaius snorted. "I mean, if it is a game... you’re winning."
"I hate both of you," I grumbled, returning to my bed and plopping down.
Kaius moved to the edge of the bed, setting down his mug and ruffling my hair in a way that was just annoying enough. "No, you don’t."
I swatted at his hand half-heartedly, but there was no heat behind it. His teasing had a strange comfort to it, familiar, almost warm in a way that made the room feel a little smaller and safer.
Eryx sighed and walked over, sitting beside me with a long breath. "We just worry about you."
"I know," I whispered. "But I promise, I’m not stupid. I’m not rushing anything."
"We know but..." Eryx rubbed his temples like he was nursing a headache. "Sweetie, kissing four guys at once... Was it a kissing booth contest or... did they all stand there and watch you? I..."
I reached out, gently placing a hand over Eryx’s. He finally calmed down, though the look on his face screamed, "concerned big brother on the verge of a lecture."
"No, we had a picnic, then played a bit of truth and dare..."
"Truth and dare?" This time, it was Kaius who sat up straighter. "Hope no one dared you into anything stupid or improper."
"We didn’t do anything inappropriate. Just the kisses. And we answered questions. It was fun and kinda sweet." I smiled softly at the memory.
A low chuckle came from the door, making all of us look up in unison, like a bunch of kids caught stealing cookies. There stood Rhys, arms and legs crossed, and a smirk playing on his lips.
"Rhys," we chorused, like a mismatched choir.
Shaking his head, Rhys stepped further in. "You guys are treating her like she’s twelve. Calm down. She didn’t run off and elope with a biker gang."
I exhaled sharply, grateful for the save.
"Hmm, though Tyrion gives the biker vibe," Eryx pointed out.
"Eryx," Rhys said, jerking his chin in his direction. "What were you like at eighteen? How many girls had you kissed by then?"
Before Eryx could even blink, Rhys added, "Actually—how many girls did you sleep with by that age? Scratch that—let’s go deeper. When did you lose your virginity?"
Eryx’s eyes went wide like saucers. "I—"
The shock was so visible on his face, I had to slap a hand over my mouth to stop the laugh bubbling up. It was a full UNO reverse.
"I..." Eryx stammered, darting his gaze around the room like someone looking for the emergency exit.
I stepped in quickly to spare him. "No need to tell us—"
"No, no, no," Rhys cut in with a wicked grin. "He’s got to, now. Then we all do. It’s only fair. You know, if we’re trying to build trust and an honest sibling bond, we need to lay it all out."
I squinted at them all, cheeks burning. "You three are ridiculous."
But they looked serious, maybe too serious.
I know they were all trying to win my trust and love, but I did not need them to say these things for me to trust them.
I felt embarrassed on their behalf.
And I was about to protest again when Eryx chuckled, earning a creased brow from me, and Kaius simply nodded.
"We will tell our story, and so will you, Rhys," Kaius said after some seconds of silence.
"Definitely, big bro," Rhys agreed.
I smiled at the handsome trio. I quickly picked up the phone and turned it off. If we were doing this, I wanted to be present fully.
I tried to think of this as the time I spent with our kingdom’s warriors.
They had recounted stories about their lives before moving to their sex lives and other naughty things they had done.
We were all mature back then, and we weren’t related, but this... I did not know why I was shy.
Was it because I saw them not as my brothers or...? My thoughts were interrupted when Eryx spoke up.
Eryx chuckled, breaking the tension. "Alright then."
Kaius crossed his arms and nodded. "You’re up first."
"To answer your question, Rhys," Eryx began, his voice dropping into a more reflective tone. "I had my first... experience... at twenty."
A beat of silence.
"What?"
"No way."
Both Kaius and Rhys blurted out in disbelief.
Eryx gave them a tired look. "It may not seem believable, but I didn’t exactly let a girl in that easily. I was too busy with school... and other stuff."
"Like what?" Kaius narrowed his eyes.
Rhys tilted his head. "Is that ’other stuff’ tied to you being close to a certain someone I know?"
My head turned instinctively to look at Eryx, who—surprise, surprise—was already looking at me.
There was a flicker in his eyes, one I couldn’t quite place.
Fondness? Affection? Embarrassment?
I glanced away too quickly, only to find both Kaius and Rhys doing the same, like they’d all collectively been caught peeking into a window they had no business looking through.
Whoa!
Hold up.
Wait a minute.
"Okay," I said, sitting up straighter. "What’s going on here?"
Eryx shook his head quickly. "Nothing. Rhys, you’re next."
"Nice try, deflection king," Rhys said with a grin, taking the seat on the other side of me.
"Why is he deflecting, and why are you all looking at me like that?" I asked, not ready to let them move on from that topic of interest.
My brothers all exchanged knowing glances, but none spoke.
"Huh, answer. You guys said no lies, remember?"
Erys exhaled, Kaius sipped from his mug and Rhys lifted his brow expectantly at Eryx.
"I was..." Eryx began and then stopped.
"Oh for fuck sake. We all knew. He didn’t get laid on time because of you, Spring."
My eyes went wide like saucers as I pointed at myself in disbelief.
"What? Me? How?"
