Chapter 84: Double Date?

Chapter 84

~Spring’s POV~

I woke up to soft sunlight spilling through the blinds of Rhys’ house, a slight ache in my limbs reminding me of yesterday’s chaos and the fact that my soul hadn’t had a single day off since it returned to this world.

Rubbing my eyes, I reached for my phone on the nightstand and clicked on the notification banner that had lit up the screen.

Storm: Good morning, beautiful. Are you free this Sunday? I want to take you out—just you and me.

My lips twitched as a memory flashed before my eyes, his lips on mine in front of the Council, that terrifyingly gentle kiss that had quieted everything in me. For once, I didn’t overthink.

Me: Yes.

I clicked send and smiled before backing out of the chat, and without overthinking things for once.

But before I could lock the screen, another message caught my eye.

Jace: How are you, beautiful? Good morning.

Jace: So... Sunday? How about you nd I go out? I’ll bring your favourite dessert. And a full apology for that kiss. Unless you didn’t mind it, which I hope you didn’t.

I blinked as a simple ’No’ formed in my mind, but before I typoed it and sent... a thought crossed my mind.

I sat up straighter.

Wait.

I scrolled back up to check the time stamp.

8:12 a.m.

Then I went back to Storm’s message.

8:12 a.m.

My smile faltered almost immediately. Oh no.

What were the odds? They both asked me out at the same time.

One minute I was confirming a date with Storm, and the next I was being asked out by Jace. I hovered over Jace’s message and sighed. I had to say no. I had already made a commitment—

Jade’s voice suddenly cut through my thoughts. "Just imagine four dates. Four. All before noon."

I groaned. "You’re not helping, Jade."

She laughed.

Distracted, my thumb tapped send just as I meant to delete the message I was typing out.

I stared in horror at the screen.

Me to Jace: Yes.

"No, no, no," I muttered as my eyes peeled wider on the screen.

"Jade!" I screamed internally.

"You said yes. Not me."

I dropped the phone dramatically into the blankets and faceplanted into my pillow.

Then the phone rang.

Storm.

I sat up and answered, brushing a few curls out of my face. "Hey..."

"Hey, love," his voice poured through the speaker like melted chocolate. "I hope you slept well."

I relaxed a little, letting the sound of his voice comfort me. "I did, actually. Thanks."

"Thats good and lucky. I haven’t."

"Why?" I questioned before I could stop myself.

"Because... I’ve been thinking about you," Storm admitted out of the blue and my stomach flipped.

"Storm I..."

"You’re always on my mind, Spring. I do not want to rush but I also do not want to waste anytime. I’m coming to pick you up at noon," he continued. "Wear whatever makes you feel like you. But I’ll bring flowers. So prepare to be flustered."

I bit my lip. "I don’t fluster easily."

He chuckled. "I know. That’s why I want to see it."

My heart was a mess, but my voice remained steady. "I’ll be ready."

"That’s my girl. See you in a bit, then. Oh and your address?"

I smiled, knowing he could easily get my address without asking but he’d have a run and waste time if he went to the Kiane residence.

"I’ll text you the address. I’m at my brother’s."

"Sure."

He did not bother asking which brother and I knew it was because Storm was brave. He just did not care or feel intimidated.

We hung up with soft goodbyes... and immediately, the phone rang again.

This time, it was Jace.

I stared at it for three full seconds before answering. "Hey."

There was a pause before his voice filled my ear, a little less smug than usual. "You really said yes?"

I winced. "Jace, about that—"

"Because I swear, Spring, if that was a joke, my ego’s too fragile right now," he expressed, though I could hear the laugh behind his words.

"I wasn’t joking..." I started slowly. "But—"

"That kiss..." his voice dipped, quieter now. "It wasn’t just a kiss, Spring. I’ve never felt something like that with anyone. I mean, I’ve kissed a lot of people—"

"I’m aware," I mumbled. "Though I doubt if that was what you wanted to tell me or how you wanted to tell me."

"Yeah, sorry about that, but with you, it was... real."

I didn’t answer right away.

"I want you. I want us to give this a try, our relationship."

"A try?"

"No. I mean a chance..... Gosh, Jace youa re saying a lot of stupid things right now."

I chuckled softly. Jace cleared his throat. "I want to go on a date with you. I want you to be mine. So please, give me a chance, will you?"

I paused for a few seconds. I knew Jace wasn’t really the soft type and he was trying not to screw this up with me but...

"I understand. Yes, I will give you a chance."

"Yay," Jade squealed. "After all, the Moon Goddess gave you five mates for a reason."

"Other than mocking me, I don’t see the reason, Jade."

Jade was about to retort when Jace suddenly voiced, "I’ll pick you up by noon. Send me the address, please."

My heart raced. "Actually, I’m staying at Rhys’s for a few days."

"That’s fine," he said easily. "Send it to me. Noon, yeah?"

I paused too long, and he caught it.

"Spring?"

"I... uh..." Before he could ask more, Rhys’s voice echoed down the hallway.

"Spring?" Followed by two deeper voices.

"Spring, come down, sis"

"Spring Kaine!"

My eyes widened. "I gotta go!" I said quickly and hung up.

Rushing to the hallway, I opened the door to find the Kaine trio standing in Rhys’s living room, arms full of gift bags and mischief.

Kaius grinned. "Morning, cupcake."

Eryx held up a white pastry box. "I brought cake."

Rhys arched an eyebrow. "I let them in. They bribed me with food."

"You’re easy," I teased.

"Only for sugar," he said with a wink, which I knew was a lie.

Within minutes, we were seated in the kitchen, Kaius cooking eggs and Eryx making toast, while Rhys stood leaning against the counter sipping his coffee, watching me like I might float away.

They told jokes from when we were younger, well, when I was younger. We laughed, we ate, and we talked like a real family should.

There was no mention of Rose, no talk of our mother, just us... and it was oddly perfect.

Until... the sound of a car pulling into the driveway distracted us.

I looked up at the sound of tires on gravel.

Kaius was the first to move. He walked to the front window and peeked through the curtains. "Um... Spring?"

Eryx joined him. "Is that..."

Rhys stood last and muttered, "He came with flowers."

I frowned and hurried over, all of us crammed by the window to have a peek.

Storm’s sleek car was parked by the gate, and sure enough, he was stepping out with a bouquet of white roses in hand, dressed in a dark blue suit jacket over casual jeans. Effortlessly devastating.

Eryx’s eyes narrowed. "That’s the guy. The one from the mall."

Kaius folded his arms. "The kisser."

I sank into the couch. "This is not happening..."

But it was, because right as Storm turned to walk up the path, a second car pulled in behind him.

My eyes flew open when I heard the sound and immediately I was back on my knees on the couch, peeking.

No.

No, no, no.

The door opened, and soon after, Jace stepped out with flowers in his hand.

Storm’s steps slowed, and Jace paused as both of them locked eyes and then, simultaneously, both turned... to the window where all three of my brothers stared.

And I was smack in the middle of them, frozen.

Kaius didn’t look away as he asked, "Spring?"

Eryx turned slowly to me.

Even Rhys had that bland and dangerous older brother expression as Jace and Storm started walking toward the house.

And me, I was already wondering how fast I could dig a hole in Rhys’s backyard and hide in it.

"Spring?" Rhys repeated. "You wanna explain why you scheduled a double-date... at my house?"

I swallowed. "Would you believe me if I said... it was an accident?"

But cutely not... All three brothers answered in unison.

"No."
