Chapter 88: Amusement park: Part-4

"KYYAAAA!!!"

"ARRHH!!"

Both Raphael and Leo screamed... Raphael screamed in fear but Leo screamed both in fear and the way she hugged him so tightly he felt he might breaking few bones.

The only person who was enjoying this was... Ophis~

Ophis smirked, a wide grin tugging at the corner of her lips. Her eyes gleamed with amusement, watching Leo and Raphael flail and scream at every shadow and sound.

Actually... this might not be as boring as she’d thought.

Especially the way those two kept shrieking like children dragged into a nightmare.

She was definitely enjoying this.

Just as they were about to reach the end of the maze, all three of them paused.

A figure lay ahead, wrapped completely in white cloth, positioned awkwardly on the floor right before the glowing red "EXIT" sign.

The fog curled gently around it.

Raphael froze on the spot, not moving a single muscle. Her body was practically glued to Leo’s side, arms locked around his. Leo stared at the figure too, breath stuck in his throat. Even though he knew it was probably part of the setup—just a prop, maybe even a staff member—his legs refused to move.

Just a usual fear anyone had!

Ophis tilted her head, gaze fixed on the still figure. She raised an eyebrow and said in an unimpressed tone,

"What are you two so afraid of? It’s obviously just a person."

Without hesitation, she stepped forward, her shoes crunching lightly against the wooden floor.

"O-Ophis, no..." Raphael muttered shakily, clutching Leo even tighter as she watched Ophis walk straight up to the figure.

Ophis stopped beside it and looked down.

"Oi... wake up. It’s already over," she said, her voice casual, almost bored.

But the figure didn’t move.

Raphael instantly squeezed her eyes shut, already feeling a cold sweat trickle down her spine. ’Something bad’s about to happen,’ she thought. Her body tensed, her breath caught.

Leo watched the scene in front of him, his mouth dry. His fingers trembled as he held onto Raphael like his life depended on it.

Ophis’ lip twitched with annoyance.

"Come on, you’re not scaring anyone now!" she snapped and lightly kicked the body with the tip of her shoe.

The figure didn’t move an inch.

No reaction.

No flinch.

Not even a twitch.

Her brow furrowed as she crouched and grabbed a corner of the white cloth, annoyed.

"Hah... caught yo—"

Her words stopped.

She yanked the cloth back and.... saw nothing underneath.

Just fog. Empty space... No body.

"L-Leo..."

a trembling voice called out.

It was Raphael. Her knees were giving out. She clung harder to Leo, her fingers digging into his back. Her voice trembled. Her entire body trembled.

Because she didn’t hear Ophis’ usual cocky voice anymore.

There was only silence.

Ophis blinked, a small bead of sweat forming on her forehead. She stared blankly at the space beneath the cloth.

"...Hahaha... N-Nice"

"What? Playing around? Yeah, sure, nice one..." Her laugh was dry and unconvincing. She turned her head left and right, searching.

She knew she had kicked something... She felt the weight.

She wasn’t imagining it.

Ssshhhh~

A cold breeze drifted through the hallway. Gentle... but unnaturally cold. It brushed against their skin like fingers.

Ophis swallowed hard as she glanced over at Leo, who was visibly trembling now.

"Hah... Hah... l-look at you. Acting like scared little kids... S-Scared over nothing... Hah..."

Her voice cracked despite her effort to sound confident. She quickly tossed the white cloth away with a dramatic wave of her arm.

Flappp...

But the cloth didn’t fall to the floor.

It landed on something.

Something there.

A tall shape. A wrapped figure. A form that hadn’t been there a second ago.

"...."

Ophis’ expression froze. Her eyes slowly widened. Her hand twitched by her side as she stared at the cloth.

She took a hesitant step forward, lifting her arm, her fingers trembling as they reached toward the sheet again.

"N-No... don’t do that... I really feel like something awful’s about to happen," Leo muttered under his breath, arms tightening protectively around Raphael, who looked seconds away from passing out.

"I-I’m not a child like you..." Ophis mumbled to herself, trying to convince herself. Her fingers curled around the cloth again.

She took a deep breath—and pulled it back in one sharp motion.

"F-Found yo—"

Nothing.

Again.

Empty space.

"..."

Ophis’ knees nearly buckled. She turned to look at Leo with wide eyes, voice dry.

"Hah... W-Why don’t we just go outside now?" she mumbled, barely holding her usual smugness.

But Leo didn’t answer.

He just stared.

Not at her—but behind her.

His mouth hung open. His eyes were full of pure horror.

Ophis gulped. Her mouth went dry. "S-Something’s behind me, isn’t there?"

Leo gave a tiny nod, frozen in place.

Ophis’ lips quivered. Her hands started to shake. Slowly, painfully slowly, she turned her head—

There was nothing.

She let out a deep sigh of relief, shoulders slumping.

"Come on... you guys are trying too hard to—"

Then she turned around fully.

And there it was.

A grotesque, fleshy human-shaped thing stood inches from her face, its mouth stretched into a crooked, wicked grin. Its face looked like it had been peeled and sewn back together. A long, dripping tongue lolled out of its mouth, twitching like a slug.

"Hello~"

Its voice was rough, broken, distorted—like rusty metal scraping against stone.

"KYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"

Ophis screamed.

"FUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKKK!!!!"

Leo shouted, spinning around with Raphael in tow.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Raphael cried out, her lungs nearly collapsing.

In a moment of curiosity, she peeked—just once.

Big mistake.

She should’ve kept her eyes closed.

Curiosity killed the cat.

THUD!

Just then, the exit doors flung open.

A staff member stood outside, wearing a cheerful uniform, a clipboard in hand. She smiled brightly.

"Looks like you guys enjo—"

Before she could finish her sentence, the trio exploded out of the haunted house like they were escaping hell itself.

They stumbled into the warm, safe evening sunlight like survivors of a war. Their hair was a mess. Their eyes wild.

Raphael sagged into Leo’s chest, still shaking like a leaf. Her mouth opened and closed, but no sound came out.

Ophis... was curled up in Leo’s arms, a shivering mess. The confident demon of the group now looked like a scared little girl who had seen the devil himself.

All three of their hearts were pounding harder than a galloping horse.

Leo’s face was flushed, drenched in sweat. He looked at the staff member with wide, accusing eyes.

"I-I wanna cry, man," he muttered breathlessly. "I seriously wanna cry..."

"Me too..." Raphael whispered, barely audible.

Ophis said nothing. She was frozen stiff, eyes darting around, unable to speak.

The staff member giggled politely. "You guys really got into it, huh? Well thanks to our props!

We want best satisfied customers. We strive for the best after all!"

Leo, panting hard, nodded. "Y-Yeah... that last one was insane... the thing near the exit..."

The staff tilted her head. "Hmm? Near the exit? What are you talking about?"

"We didn’t have anything placed at the exit," she said with a confused smile. "That area was empty."

"...."

"..."

"....."

All three of them turned slowly—robotically—toward the exit door they had just come from.

A single white cloth lay on the floor.

It fluttered once in the breeze...

"KeKeKe~"

Then vanished.

.... Run!

That was the last time the staff ever saw those three again.

Ever.
