Chapter 82: A Slice of Life: Part-1

Back to Leo and Ophis, who were now walking down the long, quiet corridor leading back toward the hospital lobby. The hallway echoed with the soft squeak of their shoes against the polished floor, and distant murmurs and metallic clangs drifted from nearby patient rooms.

"I still can’t believe you actually used that freaking rare stone on a complete nobody! Do you even understand what you just did?" Ophis suddenly exploded, her voice filled with frustration and disbelief.

She stormed a few steps ahead of him, spinning around to face Leo with her arms flailing slightly. Her brows were scrunched tight, her tiny hands clenched. The disbelief in her voice was impossible to miss.

"That was a one-time thing, Leo! You could’ve saved yourself if something ever went wrong. And you used it on a old woman who die at any day and... you don’t even know?"

Leo simply shrugged, his hands resting in his pockets like none of this mattered.

"Who cares..." he said with a tired smile. "It’s not like we’re going to get into any more fights, right? It’s over now."

Ophis grumbled under her breath, fists tightening at her sides. As much as she hated to admit it... he wasn’t wrong.

The war, the chaos, the bloodshed—it had all calmed down. For now. Maybe forever. But still...

She sighed heavily, turning away from him with a huff. "Whatever. I don’t want to talk to you right now."

As they continued walking, Leo wore a strange, soft smile on his face, as if he had done something quietly heroic. Like he had finally done something right—something truly good.

Ophis, on the other hand, wore an annoyed scowl, her face twitching with a mix of irritation and exhaustion.

They stepped out into the hospital lobby, where the light from the tall windows spilled across the marble floor like a warm blanket. People moved slowly—nurses, visitors, patients—all lost in their own small worlds.

And standing near the front desk, arms crossed, eyes calm but sharp... was Raphael.

Her sharp gaze immediately landed on Leo. She raised an eyebrow as she noticed the faint smile on his lips—an expression she wanted to see... it gave her pause.

She didn’t question it. She didn’t ask what happened or why. Instead, she simply smiled and tilted her head slightly.

"Shall we go grab breakfast now?" she asked, her voice smooth and warm, like she’d been waiting for this moment for a long time.

Leo nodded silently.

Ophis, too, gave a quiet nod.

"Right... here." Raphael reached into her bag and handed something to Leo.

Leo blinked in surprise as he took it from her hands. It was a new pair of glasses.

"Wait... how did you...?" he asked, holding them carefully.

Raphael smirked. "Of course I knew you’d mess something up again. So I ordered a backup the same day I ordered the first one."

Leo shook his head with a small laugh, impressed but not surprised. He gently unfolded the glasses and slipped them on.

Then... he frowned.

’Huh?’

The world around him looked... blurry.

Through the lenses, everything had a slight haze. But when he lowered them—looking with just his bare eyes—the room looked perfectly clear.

Sharper!

Leo blinked again and looked between the lenses and the lobby ahead. Glasses. No glasses. Blurry. Clear.

’Wait a second... my vision... is normal now? But... how?’

When he woke up earlier that morning, he could see fine, but he hadn’t even noticed the difference. It felt too natural, like it had always been that way.... after all he was like that before.

"Is something wrong?" Raphael asked, tilting her head as she noticed his confusion.

Leo turned to her and asked hesitantly, "Are you sure... this is the same prescription as before?"

Raphael frowned slightly and turned toward the reception desk. "I’ll go double-check," she said, walking off to inquire.

While she was gone, Leo leaned closer to Ophis and whispered, "Do you think... magic can affect eyesight too?"

Ophis tilted her head thoughtfully. "Maybe...? Depends on the type of magic, I guess."

Leo let out a long sigh and rubbed the bridge of his nose. ’Great... now how am I supposed to explain this? Maybe... saying I’m wearing contact lenses is a good enough lie for now.’

Raphael soon returned, holding a slip of paper.

"It’s the same as your old prescription," she said, eyes narrowing slightly.

Leo chuckled awkwardly. "Oh... I forgot to mention. I’m wearing contact lenses today. Just for a change."

Raphael blinked, then nodded slowly. "Ah. That would explain the strange color in your eyes..."

She mumbled to herself as she glanced at his face, though something about the look in his eyes didn’t quite sit right. There was no reflection of a contact lens. No subtle layer. Just pure, unnatural clarity.

She didn’t press further.

They left the hospital shortly after and made their way to a small, cozy restaurant nearby. Warm morning sunlight streamed through the windows, casting golden light across the wooden tables.

The scent of freshly brewed coffee and buttered toast filled the air, mixed with sizzling eggs and faint jazz music playing softly in the background.

They found a corner booth and took their seats. A server handed them menus and poured water for each of them.

Raphael glanced over the menu, then looked at Ophis, who was busy kicking her dangling legs under the chair.

"What do you want, Ophis?" she asked casually.

Ophis blinked, then looked up at her with innocent eyes. "Anything’s fine... you choose for me, big sister."

Raphael hummed. "Hmm... is the children’s meal good enough?"

Ophis’s lips twitched violently. Her expression froze.

"Pfff—!"

Leo snorted and suddenly burst into laughter.

"Fuc—!" Ophis slapped both hands over her mouth in panic.

Raphael blinked. "Did you say something?"

Ophis broke out in a nervous sweat, her eyes darting. "I mean—I said I need a fork! Yeah! A fork to eat!"

Raphael gave her a warm smile. "Oh, you’re so sweet~"

"...fff..." Leo buried his face into the menu, barely holding back another laugh.

Ophis glared at him from across the table.

The waitress returned with a soft smile, pen and notepad ready.

"Have you all decided?"

Raphael handed her the menus. "We’ll have one classic breakfast platter, one vegetarian set, and..." she glanced at Ophis, "one children’s meal. With extra syrup."

Ophis twitched again. She didn’t say a word—but Leo could see her expression twitching with every ounce of restraint she had left.

"Very good. It’ll be out shortly," the waitress said before stepping away.

Ophis leaned forward on the table, folding her arms and staring blankly ahead.

"Children’s meal..." she mumbled... how fallen the great Dracula’s descendant!!

Leo grinned, resting his chin on his hand as he watched her sulk.

"Don’t worry... it will be enough for your little body~"

Ophis squinted at him like she was imagining vaporizing him with her stare.

"I hope your eggs come burnt."

Raphael chuckled softly, sipping from her glass of warm water.

The food arrived, interrupting the moment. Plates clinked softly as the waitress arranged their dishes on the table. The scent of butter, eggs, spices, and fresh bread filled the air.

Raphael’s vegetarian platter had avocado toast with poached eggs and roasted tomatoes. Leo’s was heavier—sausages, eggs, hash browns, buttered toast. And Ophis...

A plate with smiley-shaped pancakes, colorful fruit slices, and a little syrup pot shaped like a bear was set before her.

Leo had to look away, laughing silently into his napkin.

"Say ahhh~" Raphael teased, cutting one of the pancake faces and holding it up with a fork.

Ophis leaned back like it was poison as she glared at Leo... ’I will pay back you two with thousand folds!’ as she chomped the food.

"Good girl..."

Twitch!
