Chapter 72: No Regret... Just an Ending?

"NOOOOOOO!!"

Leo’s scream tore from his throat like a wounded beast. His knees buckled, eyes wide and streaming with tears.

Valra and Ophis caught him before he could collapse.

"We need to leave!!"

Valra cried, her own eyes filled with tears, arms wrapped tightly around Leo as she dragged him back toward the glowing path.

Leo turned, dazed, glancing back—only to see in the distance:

Envy had fallen.

His body cracked, his bow limp at his side. He had done all he could.

Above them, Camazotz’s mocking laughter echoed through the forest, sharp and cruel. Nergal stood proudly beside him, yanking his chain with a wicked grin as the spiked flail recoiled back into his hand.

Leo saw... Pride’s hand vanish beneath the creeping black liquid, her remaining body completely swallowed by the thick, sticky darkness that pulsed like a living thing.

"C-Cael..."

Leo’s voice cracked as he stood there, frozen, his eyes wide and empty, staring blankly at the spot where she disappeared.

His breath hitched, and his legs refused to move. Ophis suddenly grabbed his arm, yanking both him and Valra with unexpected strength.

"What the heck are you crying about?!"

She barked, her voice trembling with rage and desperation. Her slap of words snapped like a whip across their stunned minds.

"She gave her life for us! Your Champions sacrificed everything to protect us, and you two are just standing here—falling apart?!"

She growled, shaking them both violently. "Get a grip! Don’t let their death be in vain, idiots!"

Without waiting, Ophis pulled them along, forcing their legs to move as she sprinted ahead, her own heart pounding like a war drum.

Valra blinked rapidly, shaking her head to clear the fog. She clenched her fists, her vision sharp again. Leo bit down on his trembling lips, tears streaking his face as he stumbled forward behind them.

Meanwhile—

"Look at them... still running."

Camatoz’s voice oozed with amusement as he hovered above the shattered battlefield, dark mist curling around his towering form. Then, with a wicked grin, he added, "Let’s end this... now."

His chest expanded as he tilted his head back and inhaled deeply, sucking in the very essence of mana from the air. Nergal followed his lead, raising his weapon. The spiked flail began to glow, hissing like a beast awakened from ancient slumber, swelling in size with every second.

Valra and Ophis came to a halt as the air around them turned suffocatingly heavy. The amount of mana—dense, suffocating, otherworldly... was far beyond anything they had ever felt.

Their legs buckled, collapsing beneath them. Their bodies hit the ground hard, eyes wide with sheer horror.

It was like standing before a god.

Their own strength—everything they had trained for, fought for—felt like dust. Insignificant. Useless.

Every ounce of mana inside them quivered and shrank in fear.

There was no hope left, no miracle waiting to save them.

Ophis collapsed completely, her consciousness fading from the overwhelming pressure. Her body twitched once and went still, breath shallow.

Valra could barely hold on. Her vision blurred, her heartbeat thundered against her ribs, and every cell in her body screamed in despair.

This was the end.

Even if they tried to run now... There was nowhere left to run.

"What are you doing?! We need to get out of here!"

Leo’s voice broke the silence. He stood shakily, unaware of the immense mana that crippled the others. His senses hadn’t picked it up the same way.

Panic rising in his chest, he turned to Valra, reaching for her.

But she turned to face him with a tired, peaceful smile.

"I... I really do love you, Leo."

A single tear rolled down her cheek, catching the fading light as it fell. Her voice was soft, but steady—clearer than ever.

She had to say it.

Before she lost the chance... Before regret took root in her soul forever.

"Huh...?"

Leo blinked, confused by her words, his breath caught in his throat.

Then he looked up—and his eyes widened in horror.

Camatoz’s throat bulged grotesquely, swollen with condensed mana, glowing from within like molten lava trying to burst free. His jaw stretched open unnaturally wide—

KKKYYYYYYYY!!!

A deafening sonic boom exploded from his mouth, the sound so powerful it cracked the sky. It wasn’t just noise—it was destruction made audible, a roar that tore the air itself apart and sent shockwaves ripping through the battlefield.

Nergal, with a howl, spun his massive, spiked flail—now a swirling vortex of deadly power—and hurled it toward them with a violent scream.

The two attacks collided toward the ground with impossible force. The land trembled. Everything in their path wasn’t just destroyed....No, Obliterated!

Leo’s legs gave out.

He tried to channel his unknown power, tried to pull anything from within—but nothing came. No matter how deeply he breathed, how hard he focused—it just... didn’t work.

His magic was silent.

He collapsed next to Valra, and without another word, pulled her into a trembling embrace. He reached for Ophis, holding them both as if by doing so he could shield them from death itself.

"My greed... cost more than I ever imagined,"

Leo whispered, his voice hollow with regret.

That was all...

That was it.

The end.

Or so they believed—until—

Flick~

A faint spark danced across Valra’s palm.

She blinked.

Her hand glowed ever so slightly, and she turned her head slowly, confused. A whisper of warmth ran up her arm. Her connection with her champion—one that should have been long severed—flickered back to life for one final, fading moment.

Her eyes widened. Her breath caught.

She turned—

Step...

From the broken earth, bathed in radiant light, Envy stood up slowly—his form illuminated, his presence divine.

Glowing, majestic, and wrathful.

"Karna..."
