Chapter 993: Chapter 597: This Situation_3

When the Sambiyan Kingdom rose in the east, cutting off the Komeer Kingdom’s eastward expansion route, they focused their efforts on the west, devising an ambitious plan for western conquest. Over a century, and through the efforts of three generations, they forcibly broke through the Stormhorn Mountains and expanded the Wasteland Path into what is now known as the Wasteland Avenue.

The plan was inspiring, but reality was harsh.

They had indeed paved the road, but the plan to conquer the Goblin Margins foundered before the Tun Marsh.

By that time, the Lizard Queen had already entrenched herself in the area. To march into the Goblin Margins, they would have had to battle fiercely with her, overturning her rule, before the Komeer Kingdom’s army could have a possibility of entering the Goblin Margins.

This gamble was a significant one. If they won, all was well, but if they lost, not only the Santarin Association but also the Sambiyan Kingdom and all the city-states along the Giant Dragon Coast would turn into jackals, each eager to take a fierce bite out of the well-fed yet weakened Komeer Kingdom.

This was the kingdom’s weakness. Before attacking, they first thought about defense.

On this point, they were actually not as bold as Gaven’s Conqueror Army. With nothing to lose, the Conqueror Army’s all was the army itself, only concerned with the present, without a need to worry about what lay behind them. Natural it was that they went about sieging and pillaging without any taboo.

While territorial expansion might not have been successful, the expansion of trade routes was quite fruitful. This became the most convenient, fluent, and safest land route in the east and west of the Hartland Region.

The term "Hartland Region" originated from here, encompassing Komeer, the Valleys, Sambia, and the surrounding satellite areas. The countries and city-states here used one language, and their civilizations, customs, and social laws were also quite similar. These might not be the most populous, dangerous, or powerful nations in Felen, but they certainly were the most representative of Felen’s identity.

Later, as this name extended, they gradually became known as the East Hartland Region.

Correspondingly, the West Hartland naturally came into being, mainly including areas north of Baldur’s Gate, east of the Amm Kingdom, the Giant Dragon Coast, and the regions west of it.

As for areas north of Baldur’s Gate and east of the Enorok Great Desert, those came to be known as the renowned Northern Lands.

However, in the eyes of the Amm Kingdom and the Tesser Kingdom, whether it was the true Northern Lands or East and West Hartland, all were called the Northern Lands.

Just like in China, where the division between northerners and southerners is quite vague, with each region having its own standards, Felen was no exception.

This trade route brought a wealth of riches to the Komeer Kingdom, and naturally, they valued it highly. Not only were there many checkpoints and garrisons along the way, but also numerous patrol teams crisscrossing the area. The entire western Stormhorn Mountains had been completely tamed by them.

Most of the Barbarians here had already sworn allegiance to the Komeer Kingdom. Compared to wielding weapons to plunder wealth, they had tasted the sweetness of trading to obtain riches. Around the checkpoints of the Wasteland Path, their figures were often seen, exchanging local specialties in their hands for needed living supplies from traveling merchants.

The arrival of the Conqueror Army naturally caused a trade frenzy among them, as numerous Barbarian merchants flocked down from the mountains, bringing a wealth of mountain goods such as goats, furs, and rare mountain delicacies.

Gaven and his forces continued the previous philosophy of combining migration with commerce, welcoming all comers. Even if they traded for goods that were unsuitable to move with the large army, they would either use Shadow Drag to pull them back to Mesnoel or entrust them to the accompanying Conqueror Caravan to be sold according to the market.

The East Road of the Komeer Kingdom and Posku on the Giant Dragon Coast prohibited the large-scale passage of the Conqueror Army, yet they did not prevent their small-scale trading teams from coming and going. After all, commerce was their foundation. Especially since the Komeer Kingdom and the Conqueror Army bore no enmity, and were rather closely allied. The prohibition on using the East Road for the large army simply stemmed from it crossing the core heartland of Komeer, purely a matter of national security.

National security was paramount and could not be entrusted to mere contracts or personal relationships.

Earlier, when the Conqueror Army had passed through Amm and the Giant Dragon Coast, it was purely a forceful move, without any negotiations.

Though the Wasteland Path was passable, it was ultimately a winding mountain road. With the Conqueror Army bringing a large number of wagons and tending to the old, weak, and sick, it was difficult to pick up speed. Maintaining a daily progress of seventy to eighty kilometers, setting up camp depended entirely on the road conditions. They would definitely not camp on rugged mountain roads, as that would be too dispersed. They would either camp early or push on a bit further. All was meticulously planned, and there was no indecision.

With Katherine leading the Red Falcon Knights joining in, the strategic planning of the Conqueror Army reached a whole new level.

After the war on the Giant Dragon Coast ended, this Lady of Strategy, the first of the Chosen, ought to have escorted the large shipment of supplies, given by Gaven for her Yin Hong War Academy, back to the Fortress of Strategy for the final preparations. But the night before she was to leave, the Goddess of Strategy delivered a divine mandate for her to continue personally guarding the Conqueror Army as they headed north.

For one of the Chosen, a divine mandate was always the most important matter; all other things could be put aside.

Gaven naturally would not refuse such a favorable development. As for the reason, he had a vague idea of it. Earlier in Darama, during the battle against Divine Root, the Goddess of Strategy had secured an absolute position of faith, and many Darama Citizens converted to her followers on the spot. Even if such faith was mostly temporary and likely to fade over time, there was a Chosen Lady of the City Lord who was adept at seizing opportunities and swaying hearts. Zalanda took the opportunity to bring the Yin Hong Banner Sect to Darama, further consolidating the Goddess of Strategy’s faith there, which now already bore fruitful results.

If Zalanda had laid the foundation of faith for the Goddess of Strategy by leading the Darama Citizens,

Then Gaven’s leadership of the Conqueror Army was glorifying the Goddess of Strategy with their actual deeds. Every step they took, every territory they strategized over, every enemy they slain, every stratagem they employed, was practicing the Path of War of the Goddess of Strategy.

So Gaven had reason to believe that when he led the Conqueror Army to complete the Conqueror Path, it would also be the moment when the Lady of Strategy ignited the Divine Fire, raised up the God Kingdom, and formally stepped into the ranks of All Gods.
