Chapter 990: Chapter 596: No Fools_3

However, this question could not be left unanswered. Mickros honestly replied, "For this matter, Your Majesty, I ask for your forgiveness."

The Lizard Queen did not immediately grasp the significance but followed his train of thought and asked, "Forgiveness for what offense?"

"For the crime of ignorance, before this moment, I was unaware of Your Majesty’s existence and failed to make early contact to express my respect and that of Sambia. Is that not an unforgivable sin?" Mickros humbled himself to the fullest extent.

Though their interaction was brief, he realized that while the Lizard Queen’s combat strength might surpass that of Simmon, the Dark Castle Chairman, her wisdom and tactics were on an entirely different level.

Even the self-proclaimed clever Spirit Soul Naga was relatively limited in ability—a result of their limited knowledge.

As an important division of the Dark Intelligence Network in the southwest, the power and resources at Simmon’s disposal were immense, especially in intelligence. The volume of information he handled daily was astonishing, many pieces extending beyond the Felen Continent, possibly originating from other continents or the Multiverse. His perspective was undoubtedly among the most elite on the entire continent.

Yet the Lizard Queen’s perspective, even with their long lifespans, remained confined to the small world of Tun Marsh. Their horizon was only so high, so far, bounded by their narrow vision.

Thus, some trite and cliché tactics were highly effective against them—they were, after all, quite susceptible to such ploys.

As Mickros had anticipated, upon hearing his words, the Lizard Queen was delighted and burst into hearty laughter, saying, "Very well, I forgive you of the offense..."

"Wait," the Spirit Soul Naga hastily interjected. "Your Majesty, I have an important question for Mr. Mickros."

"What issue could be so pressing that it couldn’t wait until we’ve finished discussing the current matter?" The Lizard Queen, inclined to impatience due to the disruption of her interest and considering the notorious temperament of Black Dragons, refrained from incinerating the Spirit Soul Naga with a Dragon Breath, indicating the Naga held considerable weight in her esteem.

"This matter is closely tied to the decisions we will make next, so Your Majesty might as well spare a few minutes. Once I have my answer, then you may make your decision. Please trust that I always stand on your side, striving for your greater wealth and power, for you are not only our Queen but also the new deity of all scaled beings," the Spirit Soul Naga said with fervent and genuine emotion. Each word he spoke was from the depths of his heart, for he had no doubts about it.

The greatest deception is to deceive oneself; then everything becomes the truth.

Compared to that, Mickros still had a long way to go; he simply dared not tell outright lies.

Simultaneously, he gained a deeper understanding of the ambitions of the monarch and her servant; they were not content with ruling over a mere swamp but aspired to divine enthronement.

For a moment, Mickros was uncertain whether to be shocked at their delusions of grandeur or to mock their naive ignorance. Enthronement as a deity was not a matter of having thousands, or even tens of thousands, of individuals believe in you and declare you a god.

If it were that simple, the entire Felen Continent would be swarming with deities, and every wealthy individual in Sambia would be a walking god, easily hiring tens or even hundreds of thousands to worship them as such.

However, the past year’s event, in which deities descended upon the Felen Continent as Saints and several mortals were elevated to godhood, led many egomaniacs to believe that divine enthronement was a trivial task, giving rise to their unrealistic fantasies. Clearly, the Lizard Queen was one among them.

All Mickros could do was maintain a poker face, as if he didn’t understand what was being said.

"You may ask," the Lizard Queen said, her thick tail swishing back and forth in impatience. "Make it quick."

"Thank you for your trust, Your Majesty," the Spirit Soul Naga said as he bowed. His eyes, a blend of human and serpentine traits, glinted dangerously as he spoke, "How did you come by this information about Her Majesty? Was it from the Dark Castle in the north? Are they those Santarin Association slave traders who are full of nothing but lies?"

Goste had warned Mickros before his departure, emphasizing the contentious relationship between the parties. Now, it seemed to be more a matter of blood feud rather than mere disfavor.

Mickros could only reply truthfully, "Yes, it was General Goste of the Dark Castle who informed me about Her Majesty."

As soon as he entered the Giant Dragon Palace, he had felt enveloped by an invisible Magic Force, similar to a lie detection spell but more powerful. If he lied, they would immediately realize it.

All his prior efforts would be in vain.

Mickros had thoroughly considered before his arrival whether to use magic to shield his thoughts and lies from detection. Such capabilities were surely within the grasp of powerful entities and would no doubt be employed.

Yet doing so risked raising suspicion that he might be an enemy spy, potentially leading to pre-emptive failure.

Better to lay his cards on the table from the start and take a gamble.

He was betting on the greed of the Giant Dragon, the allure of the riches brought by the Conqueror Army, hoping that temptation would outweigh their hostility towards the Dark Castle.

"It’s them, indeed," the Spirit Soul Naga said, his facial expression chilling even further. "I want to see the Memory Projection of your discussion with them, without omission."

This time, even the Lizard Queen did not intervene but regained her composure, returning to her meal, signaling a new round of feeding.

It was evident that they had suffered at the hands of the Dark Castle before, the memory still fresh in the Lizard Queen’s mind. She was cautious, lest she fall into another of their conspiracies and tricks.
