Chapter 978: Chapter 592: Dark Castle_3

Gaven and his party could only hope that the rulers of Posku City would make such a foolish move.

If they ever took Posku, they wouldn’t return it like they did with Efanso, but would instead occupy it directly and station troops there. After all, as a border city, it only needed to be defended on one side, unlike Efanso, which faced enemies from all directions.

Then they could secure their own retreat, and in case the battle in the Goblin Margins turned against them, they could fall back.

Unfortunately, the rulers of Posku City were astute and cautious, not only opening the paths but also respectful and friendly toward the Conqueror Army, while not forgetting to exert pressure by showing that the main force of the Giant Dragon Coast Allied Forces was only fifty kilometers behind the Conqueror Army. Should they attempt to attack Posku City, they would face the fate of being sandwiched from the front and back, and Posku City had already made preparations for street fighting, ready to contest every inch of land, as it was their forte.

Posku was now ruled by a thief guild called the Light of Posku, led by Onala. They were the only dark force in the cities along the Giant Dragon Coast that operated openly, and for now, they had quite a good reputation in Posku, with many citizens supporting their rule.

Their methods of operation were far more efficient and cleaner than the previous rulers. By valuing trustworthiness, if they took their share, they would provide protection, shielding citizens from oppression by other powers and refraining from inventing reasons to exploit them repeatedly.

When Gaven had previously analyzed the situation on the Giant Dragon Coast and those dark forces with Yeshandalah, he had expressed his appreciation for this power, listing it as a potential ally to woo in the future.

But that was a matter for later. For now, the existence of the Conqueror Army was a threat to them. No matter what Gaven and his party said, it was all talk; their performance in the Goblin Margins would be the true test.

If they could break the stalemate, the situation would turn favorable; if not, it would be a complete loss, besieged on all sides.

Thus, from the beginning to the end, Gaven merely ensured that Posku City would not show hostility toward the Conqueror Army; they wouldn’t touch the city at all, dismissing any other proposals.

The next day, the Conqueror Army passed through Posku City without any disturbance and plunged into the Goblin Margins.

At least for the Conqueror Army, it was uneventful, but whether the hearts of Posku’s citizens and soldiers were in their throats was unknown.

After the Conqueror Army officially entered the Goblin Margins, the hidden undercurrents immediately started churning wildly.

The Giant Dragon Coast Allied Forces did not disperse but instead rushed headlong into Posku, completely sealing off the Wasteland Path and sparing no expense to raise and reinforce the city walls of Posku City. The intention was clear: to trap the Conqueror Army in the Goblin Margins and prevent them from heading south again.

At the same time, a multitude of pirate ships sailed against the current along the Wild Border River, steadily following the Conqueror Army and monitoring their every move.

Now they were huddled on the river, motionless, ready to swarm ashore like wolves smelling blood if the Conqueror Army ended up in an unfavorable situation.

However, the largest undercurrent was in the north, in a stronghold called Dark Castle.

This castle was located at the junction of the Sunset Mountain Range and the Grey Watcher Mountains, atop an exposed spur of the Grey Watcher Mountains, named for the pitch-black obsidian used in its construction, which from afar resembled a giant dark monster lurking on the mountains.

Neither the Sunset Mountain Range nor the Grey Watcher Mountains produced such obsidian; it was brought from a distant land. Where it was brought from was unknown because the castle was not built by humans but by Giants, and everything from the doors to the corridors and the ceilings was of astonishing scale.

About this castle, there were two distinct legends. One originated from the Age of Giants when Giants dominated and castles sprung up all over the world, with this one serving as a garrison fort to control the surrounding area.

The other theory was more recent, claiming it was built by the arcanists of the Nesserel Empire, enslaving the Elemental Elders for its construction because of the many arcane inscriptions etched by the arcanists, holding immense research value.

More people believed in the former, as it was more logical. Even to demonstrate their power, the arcanists of the Nesserel Empire wouldn’t build a structure unusable by themselves. Instead, it made sense that the arcane inscriptions were added later when they took over the castle.

However, from 250 years ago, the black walls and soaring spires of the castle were marked with the letter ’Z,’ becoming a western base for the Santarin Association. Its importance grew as the Santarin Association expanded its influence westward to carve out new trade routes.

Especially after the death of the God of Tyranny Bane, the controller of Dark Castle—the ruler of the Santarin Association, Manson’s direct pupil, Simmon—threw himself into the embrace of the God of Conspiracy Hesrick without hesitation to fight against his arch-enemy, Archpriest of Bane Bozor, becoming the most steadfast supporter of the Shylock Faction of the Santarin Association.

With the rise of the God of Conspiracy Hesrick, he and the Dark Castle he commanded saw their stature rise within the Santarin Association. It was no longer a remote branch base but rather a dark nest for the followers of the God of Conspiracy to enact their plots and expand their deity’s influence.

As the followers of the God of Conspiracy spun their webs in the surrounding regions and the name of the God grew more and more prominent, the intimidation power of the Dark Castle also grew. The towns around Sunset Mountain Range had no choice but to band together to resist this pressure, yet they still couldn’t stop the sneaky attacks from Dark Castle. The devotees of the God of Conspiracy rarely took direct action, preferring instead to watch good people fight amongst themselves because of their machinations.

At this moment in Dark Castle, once again arose the whispers belonging to a conspiracy.
