Chapter 813: Chapter 537: Raise the Price While Sitting on the Ground_3

The people on the side of the Conqueror Army underwent an exchange; Grace was taken away by the female mage who had just assumed her post, while Yeshandalah and Fan Ruina were handed over to Ms. Veranika to be brought back to the Commander-in-Chief’s tent.

The opening remarks that followed transpired much like the ones when they received Grace.

The self-introduction of Yeshandalah and Fan Ruina was that they represented the living and the dead of Efanso, avengers who launched their revenge against the Terror Ruler, aiming to drive out the evil blanketing the city from here.

Both Gaven and Ms. Veranika took a much more amiable stance towards them, and some matters were addressed through insinuations, unlike the straightforward approach with Grace.

Because their actions represented Justice, the rightful demands of the living.

Most importantly, Gaven still held a piece of intelligence about the future—the two people before him belonged to the future rulers of Efanso, one the future City Lord of Efanso and the other the future Captain of the guard.

When Gaven had previously set the migration route at the endpoint north of the Giant Plains and the warhorse trading point in Anfield Village, he unhesitatingly chose Efanso; subconsciously, he viewed Efanso as being under the rule of these two people.

In their rule, Efanso may not be considered the pearl of the Giant Dragon Coast, but it could be counted as one of the rare safe and just places, especially since major upfront transactions were guaranteed.

Especially Fan Ruina, she was not always the juvenile figure she presently appeared as; her fiery temperament, hating the wicked and pursuing felons for thousands of miles, was renowned across the entire Giant Dragon Coast, and even in the Valley, she was very famous. Gaven, once the ace enforcer of the Santarin Association, had clashed with her overtly and covertly numerous times, even cooperating briefly in their fight against the Dragon Cult.

Their meeting in this life came early; they hadn’t fully grown yet, hadn’t achieved the brightest moment of their lives—overthrowing the Necromancer regime of Efanso and becoming its rulers.

Listening to their demands, Gaven couldn’t help but lament the unpredictability of life.

After listening to their impassioned speeches, the first to speak was not Gaven but still Ms. Veranika; the Chief of Staff dutifully played the role of the antagonist, saying, "What you mean is, you want to borrow troops from the Lord to help you overthrow the existing government of Efanso and seize control of the city, but, may I ask, what benefits would we reap from this?"

"How can such a just cause be measured by interest?" Melikai’s young Ranger spoke with righteousness and severity, "You will earn the favor of everyone on the Giant Dragon Coast for this act of Justice, you will win us over, win the friendship of all the citizens of Efanso City; isn’t that enough?"

"Not enough," Ms. Veranika said with a sneer, "Though I’m not from the Giant Dragon Coast, I am not unfamiliar with this place. Your so-called act of Justice is less valuable than the cheapest goods here, where even a copper is too expensive for some. Everything has its price; it’s just that transactions are fairer on the Giant Dragon Coast, isn’t that what you people of the Giant Dragon Coast always say?

Ms. Grace has just made us an offer, requesting things that are entirely the opposite of your plea, proposing that as long as we don’t cooperate with you, as long as we don’t make a move against Efanso, they will grant us access to Efanso, allowing us to recruit and take away the living, preparing a million in goods for us afterwards."

The implication in Ms. Veranika’s words was very clear, we already benefit greatly by doing nothing.

Under the circumstances that you want us to deploy troops and exert effort, not to mention a price below this offer, even several times higher than this offer isn’t a lucrative deal for the Conqueror Army because waging war costs money, and the expenses are very substantial.

And that’s assuming victory is guaranteed; if defeated, the loss would be severe.

"Shameless!" Fan Ruina cursed out loud, whether she was cursing Grace, who attempted to bribe the Conqueror Army, or the Conqueror Army’s practice of fixing a clear price, was unclear.

"Fan Ruina, control your emotions," Yeshandalah said with a serious expression, "Apologize to the Lord Baron and Ms. Veranika right now."

"I am not wrong," Fan Ruina insisted with her head held high, carrying an expression that said she hadn’t made a mistake, so on what grounds should she apologize.

"Apologize immediately, or even if the Baron doesn’t ask you to leave, I will have to ask you to leave," an infuriated Yeshandalah, her face muscles uncontrollably twitching several times, instantly pulling at the terrifying scar on her face. The scar was already in a festering unhealed state, and pus uncontrollably oozed out, causing even more severe spasms in her facial muscles.

Fan Ruina, in a fluster, took out a jar of ointment, and while applying it to the scar on Yeshandalah’s face, she repeatedly apologized, "Don’t get angry, don’t get worked up, rashly stirring emotions will only aggravate the virus’s toxicity. I am wrong, I am wrong, isn’t that enough? I will listen to everything you say..."

Almost an entire jar of ointment was needed to barely control the peculiar injuries on Yeshandalah, but the stench in the tent became unbearable, filled with the scent of corpses left in the sun during the height of summer, decomposed for three days.

Inhaling the peculiar scent wafting through the air, Gaven appeared thoughtful, before turning to Ms. Veranika beside him and asking a question completely unrelated to this meeting, "Where is Luna now?"

"In Mesnoel, purifying the Corruption Forest over there," Ms. Veranika controlled all the teleportation resources of the entire Conqueror Army. Anyone who needed to use teleportation abilities to come and go had to report to her for permission and arrangement.

Gaven nodded his head in acknowledgment, and then turned back to ask, "Ms. Yeshandalah, may I presumptuously ask how you received the injury on your face?"

"My apologies for the trouble," Yeshandalah wished to show a gesture of apology, but the injuries on her face didn’t allow her to do so, so she tried to make her expression as stiff as possible while answering, "There’s nothing to hide about this. I was injured by Agasha, the Plague Bone Dragon controlled by Arms. Since you’ve already met Grace, you must already know their identities."
