Chapter 774: Chapter 526 Gnome Village Visit_2

How could such a character casually allow other forces near his kingdom, unless they were beneficial to him, able to provide a continuous supply of food to his kingdom? The trolls of the Wailing Dwarf Kingdom were each stout and healthy, thanks in no small part to the gnomes of Querose Village.

The trolls of the Wailing Dwarf Kingdom had become a thing of the past, and since the gnomes of Querose Village did not interfere with the migrating force, Baron Gaven did not pry into their ambiguous relationship and instead accepted the gnomes’ friendly overture.

The establishment of a city requires a stable source of food.

Moreover, the city that Gaven was now building was no longer just one, but two, cities whose populations would surge to tens of thousands in a short period, requiring even more survival supplies.

The hobgoblins of Blood Gorge City could maintain for a short time by collecting tribute from the Monster Tribe in the Giant Plains.

That wouldn’t work for Dwarf Statue City, where the Gnolls’ main effort was in mining, and the majority of food had to be resolved from outside. The gnomes coming forward on their own saved Baron Gaven some trouble.

As soon as Gaven made an appearance, a gnome mage from the Gnome Caravan took to the air and flew toward him with a clown-like, exaggerated, and comical smile, saying, "You must be Baron Gaven, the Troll Destroyer, right? It’s my greatest honor to meet you. I am Mayor Jin Bao Querose of Querose Village. Just Jin Bao will suffice."

Gnomes have another well-known characteristic; they share similar personalities with the Red Copper Dragon, being obsessed with jokes, riddles, and stories, excelling in verbal games. It’s not uncommon for some gnome villages to be neighbors with Red Copper Dragons and live in harmony with them.

The gnome before him was a typical specimen, with a large head, thick neck, short legs, and big feet, which made him look inherently comical, and his outfit was even more so.

He wore black tights complemented by an orange-red vest, a white mage’s pointed hat on his head, and orange-red jester’s curl-toed shoes on his feet. His chin was clean-shaven, and combined with his exaggerated expressions, one unfamiliar might have mistaken him for a circus clown.

"Mayor Jin Bao, welcome. I didn’t expect you to be so efficient. Your emissary left just three days ago, and you’ve already arrived," Gaven said. He did not expect such efficiency from the gnomes and thought he’d have to visit the Gnome Village to conclude an agreement once the migrating army set off.

"Our high efficiency is thanks to you, Lord Baron," Jin Bao replied with a sincere smile on his face.

"Thank me? How so?" Gaven didn’t immediately catch on.

"Your extraordinary road-building team! They’ve laid down a broad avenue right to our farm’s doorstep. Never have we seen such a spacious, flat, and sturdy road. Our vehicles hardly need the animals to move; they seem to move forward by themselves. A journey that would normally take a day or two we completed in less than three hours," Mayor Jin Bao explained with animated brows and highly exaggerated expressions, even using his limbs for effect.

Those in the know understood he was speaking the truth, while those unaware might think he was boasting. For achieving such a unique counter-effect, this fellow was a talent in his own right.

"To receive such recognition from you is our greatest honor," Gaven said with a smile. "In a few days, when our troops are ready, we’ll continue northward. This road will run straight through the Giant Plains to Efanso on the Giant Dragon Coast. When that time comes, you can use this route to travel safely and securely between Dwarf Statue City and Blood Gorge City. Anyone who attacks merchants on this road declares war on us, on the Blood Claw Legion, and we will make them pay a blood price for their folly."

Behind the calm words was a deep confidence.

Jin Bao’s jovially mocking grin briefly wavered, then, returning with a somewhat forced cheer, he said, "I believe, there won’t be any such fools left on the Giant Plains anytime soon."

Because such fools had already been used by the Blood Claw Legion as fertilizer, enriching the vegetation of the Giant Plains.

His family had relocated to the Giant Plains over a century ago and had weathered many storms, but the upheaval they had witnessed in the last month had surpassed anything from the previous century.

Ever since that Hobgoblin Army—whose origins were unknown to them when they first appeared—entered the scene.

Everyone initially thought they were just a wandering Hobgoblin Army, passersby on the Giant Plains, and expected news of their annihilation by human forces soon enough.

But who could have imagined that just a few days later, they would come back, better equipped, and sweep from south to north and back again, growing stronger with each battle instead of weaker.

Then their master arrived, and with a wave of his hand, he wiped out the Wailing Dwarf Kingdom, a power on the Troll Mountains and the Giant Plains that had been around even longer than Querose Village.

Now on the Giant Plains, which tribe or power, upon hearing their name, does not shiver in fear? They would rather stay as far away as possible, hoping the Legion would never find them.
