Chapter 731: Chapter 512 Lone Army Deep Infiltration_1
As for Veranika, she had already vanished without a trace.
The Cassie Demons couldn’t even catch the tail of a Half-Moon Colt.
Turning around to launch an aerial assault on the migrating army, they were blocked by a dense barrage of arrows.
The knight captains were acutely aware of the civilian archers’ fatal weakness; it was fine for them to hide behind shields and fire from behind the Elite Infantry, but confronting these terrifyingly huge Demons head-on could lead to a complete collapse in minutes.
Just a single intimidating dive from the Demons caused many civilians’ legs to tremble, making them forget to draw bows and shoot; some even thought of turning tail and fleeing. They were stopped by the knight captains with a mix of hitting and scolding, as now was certainly not the time for mercy.
That wave of panic was enough for an interception; the migrating army’s Air Force also took to the skies.
Leading them was none other than Bark at the helm of Erde.
The Winged Gnolls were met with barely concealed disdain from the Cassie Demons, not just because of the threefold difference in size, but also because the speed of both sides was clearly not at the same level.
Apart from those Dragonized Gnolls who had transformed their wings into Dragon Wings, gaining speeds that surpassed theirs, the rest of the ordinary Erde appeared clumsy in the air, due to their body structure. Humanoid forms are far less suited for flying than insectoid forms.
But when they clashed, the Demons sensed something was amiss.
Invisible psychic bullets launched direct attacks on their soul consciousness, targeting their brains.
The significant gap in size allowed the group of Cassie Demons to withstand most of the Psychic Bullets.
But they couldn’t withstand the sheer volume of them; the Gnolls fired relentlessly.
Out of more than three hundred Psychic Bullets, there were always about ten or so that took effect.
By the time they came to their senses, they were already on the ground.
Wild figures descended from the sky, and with a single sword strike to their vulnerable necks, instantly six Cassie Demon heads—combinations of fly and mosquito brains—were severed.
The few that weren’t killed were badly injured and completely incapable of flying. Even if their wings weren’t damaged in the crash, they became the prime targets for destruction by the enemy.
Once grounded, the threat of the Cassie Demons drastically decreased; their stabbing beaks couldn’t even touch the shadows of their enemies.
The weaker foes scattered the moment the Demons fell.
Those who dared to dance around them were either Goliaths or Hobgoblin Giants, either Transcendents or near-Transcendents. They followed the movement of the Demons’ insect-like swollen bellies with precision and helped "trim their feet". It wasn’t long before the Demons couldn’t fly nor move agilely, and were quickly overwhelmed by the swarming Goliaths and Hobgoblin Giants.
Even the Goliaths, who normally enjoyed fair competition, preferred to outnumber their foes at times like these. This was not an arena but a battlefield where life and death battled; killing the enemy was the priority.
"All Goliaths, assemble with me,"
"All Hobgoblin Giants, assemble with me,"
Kellysha and Blood Claw issued summons at the same time. As a firefighting team, Goliaths and Hobgoblin Giants scattered across the battlefield responded immediately upon hearing the call.
Especially the Goliaths—they were incredibly efficient and used their astonishing leaping power to vault over everyone’s heads. In just a few bounds, they were by Kellysha’s side.
The Hobgoblin Giants were a bit more cumbersome; many simply used their size and strength to forcibly make their way over.
They could jump too, and the height was not negligible, given their stature and long legs. But their control over leaping wasn’t as precise as the Goliaths’, and a single misstep could result in stepping on someone. Considering their size, that could crush someone half to death, so they dared not move recklessly.
After waiting only ten minutes, Gaven couldn’t hold back and asked, "How many have responded to the call?"
"Goliath Battle Group expected fifty, arrived fifty," Kellysha lifted her head and proudly declared.
"Blood Claw Elite Guard expected eighty-nine, arrived seventy-eight," Blood Claw seemed a bit more embarrassed by comparison.
"No more waiting, let’s start!" Gaven nodded to Zalanda.
As the number of Transcendent Demons interspersed in the Demon army increased and their innate Special Abilities became more powerful, the mode of war shifted towards the Transcendents. Simple arrow barrages were no longer sufficient to halt them; more and more Demons broke through the chariot formation to engage in close combat, causing more trouble and casualties.
The Devils were so frightening because they all possessed innate Special Abilities.
Even the Coward Demons, cannon fodder as they were, had four Life Dice and exuded clouds of foul stench, causing soldiers of weaker Constitution to vomit on the spot, unable to even straighten their backs to counterattack.
Thankfully, they had a fort made out of carriage carts to rely on. The massive Treants and Enlightened Trees were scattered among them, assisting in defense. On the front lines were the veteran Hobgoblin Infantry; otherwise, it would have been uncertain whether they could withstand the first wave of the Demons’ attack.
After all, the horrific reputation of the Demons was well known.
Most of the migrants still thought they were facing the Monster Tribe and did not know that the other side of their chariot barrier was consistently pouring with various Demons.
"Give me a minute," Zalanda gestured understandingly, "You can take this opportunity to arrange some tactics."
The ability to adjust and dispatch troops didn’t take time, but synchronizing with these soldiers he was meeting for the first time, to incorporate them into this capability, required some energy and time.
