Chapter 704: Chapter 503 Supreme Family_1

Riding side by side with Zalanda, Gaven broke the deadlock by saying, "General Conrad, I have a suggestion that you might consider."

"What suggestion?" Conrad didn’t just ignore Gaven; in fact, he seemed even more cautious than when dealing with Zalanda.

Because here, Gaven was no longer an insignificant figure.

Darama’s split from the Saladas Family’s control began with this man’s arrival, and it happened so quickly that the Saladas Family had no time to react.

As Zalanda had guessed, her ability to capture Darama and grow stronger was all under the tacit approval of the Saladas Family.

From the very beginning, the Saladas Family treated her as a mere pawn to create chaos.

They never considered her a threat, such was their confidence borne from absolute military power.

They were confident that one charge would be enough to retake Darama.

All of this changed fundamentally with the arrival of Gaven.

Especially after the battle at the Divine Root, when the Incarnation of Lady Strategy descended, and the Dragon Oak Mother Tree made a heaven-shocking claw attack.

It startled the Saladas Family, as this level of warfare was completely beyond mortal combat. Did their unparalleled heavy cavalry have the courage to charge at an incarnation of a deity?

Could their cities withstand the claw of that terrifying being?

Because of these questions, the Saladas Family’s top officials argued for a whole day and night about whether to send troops and still couldn’t come to a clear decision.

In a fit of anger, Conrad led his troops to war without explicit orders.

What was there to discuss?

They had to take action one way or the other, otherwise, it would show weakness to the enemy, allowing them to push further, and making their own position more passive.

But Conrad was not a mindless brute; he didn’t charge directly to the gates of Darama City but stopped in the buffer zone between the two sides, aiming to give the enemy enough time to react in hopes of resolving the dispute peacefully, rather than resorting to force.

Gaven pointed and suggested, "How vast is the world, why should our sights be limited to just Thacel? Fighting among ourselves?"

"We in Darama can fully develop along the Is River, towards the Veldas Forest, towards the direction of Amu."

"And to the east of the Saladas, there lies a vast expanse of fertile land for you to conquer. As long as you have no concerns from behind, I believe that before reaching the Minta River, no one can withstand the charge of your heavy cavalry."

"Beyond the Minta River, there’s Thorn River waiting for you, and if you desire, you can even water your horses at the Naga River, gallop over Steam Lake."

He knew the condition of his own home; not to mention the Dragon Oak Mother Tree was currently in an upgrading state.

Even if it wasn’t upgrading, it wasn’t something to be used at will; forcefully tearing through the Plane Barrier to launch an attack, even for the Dragon Oak Mother Tree, was a horrifying consumption.

Just as the gods treat the Material Plane, it is best to resolve mundane matters through mundane means.

In the short term, the Saladas Family, which preferred to remain hidden, could only unite, not confront.

"This is indeed a win-win proposal. If Lord Zalanda is willing to form an alliance with the Saladas Family in the name of Lady Strategy, I am willing to persuade the elders of my family," Conrad said. A month ago, he would have scoffed at such a suggestion, rejecting it without hesitation.

Why venture out for territorial expansion when one can comfortably feed on what is readily available?

But now the situation was different; Darama had become a hard nut to crack, a roadblock in the way of the Saladas Family’s westward expansion. Any slight movement could cause them to be on high alert.

It was better to bind it temporarily, to gain space for themselves to expand in other directions.

Also sworn by Lady Strategy, the restrictions on Darama would be far greater than those on the Saladas Family, the price for Darama’s choice to be closely bound to a deity—A deity cannot break an oath sworn in their name; if broken, at best their godhood shatters and their power is damaged, at worst they could be stripped of their divinity.

"Agreed," Zalanda replied readily.

This proposal wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment idea from Gaven; it was a strategic tactic brought up after a thorough analysis of the Saladas Family’s situation on the journey here.

The two sides didn’t need too much trust, only to be certain that the other’s focus truly wasn’t on them, but in another direction. Then they could act freely, doing other things.

Conrad also seemed to realize this, suppressing his excitement as he said, "Lord Zalanda, Baron Gaven, please wait here. I will immediately return to Saladas City to inquire about this matter. By nightfall at the latest, I will have a definite answer for you. How does that sound?"

"We will await the General’s news," Gaven and Zalanda said in unison.

Subsequently, both groups returned to their camps, with the Saladas heavy cavalry retreating like a tide back to their main camp.

To show their sincerity, the Darama heavy cavalry also retreated three kilometers backward, where a huge fortified camp complete with wagons awaited them.

It was the newly formed Flank Pioneer Army that had arrived.

It was an excellent opportunity for training, as well as for flexing their muscle.

After witnessing several live drills, Zalanda was somewhat eager as well, and planned to have Gaven construct several hundred flank wagons for Darama, to form Darama’s own Flank Wagon Corps.

She saw another advantage in the flank wagons, that of rapid assembly.
