Chapter 682: Chapter 495: The Growth of Young Red Dragon_3

"This counts as the first point," Gaven nodded lightly, affirming this approach, "Gathering the wild gnolls in the vicinity for one’s own use is definitely the preferred method for a Giant Dragon to rule a region." He added, "But that move you pulled in the Stone Bridge Hills, don’t use that again. Send out more eloquent gnoll emissaries to persuade the wild gnolls to join us. If you encounter some stubborn tribes, then you can make a personal appearance, but don’t make a move unless it’s certain you’ll win. When you strike, it must be a thunderous blow that can deter the surrounding area. As much as possible, avoid revealing your movements, especially since we’re so close to human territories, and you don’t have the advantage of a Swift Roc here."

"Lord’s thinking is thorough indeed, I will do as told, keeping a low profile as a dragon," the proud young Red Dragon learned humility under Gaven’s command—at least enough to show in his presence.

Gaven’s affirmation gave Roderick full confidence, and he continued, "I hope Lord can dispatch a hundred Dragon Blood Kobolds from the territory, preferably Red Dragon Blood Kobolds."

"Oh? Speak of your thoughts." Gaven’s eyes sparkled with more amusement. Originally, he thought to pluck a general from among the dwarfs, to keep the young Red Dragon here temporarily until a suitable commander was found to replace him.

However, Gaven hadn’t expected the other to surpass his expectations, proving to have some substance after all.

Considering the other was, after all, a Giant Dragon, because of the notorious reputation of Red Dragons, Gaven hadn’t nurtured him with as many resources as he had provided to the Young Red Copper Dragon, Aivensa. But still, living in such proximity, the young dragon surely had learned quite a bit.

"There are three reasons for this. First, the Red Dragon Blood Kobolds are naturally close to me. Living with me for an extended period will further refine their Red Dragon bloodline in their bodies, possibly awakening even more potent strength."

Second, the silver refining production line requires work with flames year-round, and the Dragon Blood Kobolds have a natural advantage in this respect. The regular gnolls around here all tend to have such an inclination, so they can integrate better into the process.

Third is using experienced soldiers to train new recruits. One Dragon Blood Kobold from the Dragon Oak Territory is enough to supervise a dozen newly subjugated gnolls, and inheriting the Dragon Blood ensures they are naturally the dominant ones, even when entering a new group."

The young Red Dragon made his points clearly and logically; as a pure Giant Dragon who hadn’t cared for the existence of gnolls before, once he paid attention, he quickly recognized the connection and compatibility between himself and them.

"Very good, excellent," Gaven nodded repeatedly, unable to help himself; the young Red Dragon’s points were spot-on, maximizing the characteristics of gnolls as well as the concept of mentoring—a perfect storm, "Do you have any other thoughts? Speak them all, and I will help you consider them."

Just based on what the young Red Dragon had said, the position here was undoubtedly his.

But Gaven wanted to delve further, to see to what extent this young Red Dragon had grown. Was he worth Gaven’s effort to nurture?

As mentioned before, with the continuous growth of his strength, his philosophy in choosing subordinates was also constantly evolving.

He had previously put too much emphasis on innate alignments, somewhat neglecting the influence of the environment, especially the direct control and oppressive influence on the soul.

Undeniably, the young Red Dragon wasn’t exactly a saint; storming into the Swift Roc Dragon Nest and devouring two gnolls to set an example was proof enough. If it had been the Young Red Copper Dragon, Aivensa, in place, such actions, let alone thoughts, were altogether unlikely due to the innate differences between the two.

However, fearing Gaven’s wrath and punishment, Roderick seldom overstepped the line on matters Gaven forbade.

As long as he abided by the laws and regulations set forth, he was a lawful citizen of the land—whether his nature was lawful good or chaotic evil mattered not.

Compared to these moot points, an abundance of capable talents was what was most important to Gaven.

"For the following matters, I will need Lord’s cooperation," the young Red Dragon said, his autonomy, suppressed by Gaven for over half a year, now fully activated.

"Let’s hear it."

"Those Eagle-Tribe Gnolls would be best left with none behind, all sent to the Dragon Oak Territory for a new education and baptism." The young Red Dragon spoke not as a Giant Dragon, but as a young military strategist, "There are two reasons for this, first for the sake of these Eagle-Tribe Gnolls themselves, their blood is already influenced by that Swift Roc; it’s challenging for them to be influenced by my harmony. Even if they were influenced, they would become distorted, so it’s better to keep them as they are, at least they are unique, and they can be used as an Air Force for reconnaissance or aerial sentinels."

Second, they are certainly the middle to upper-level managers here. Even if they truly devote themselves without a second thought, some traits are already ingrained. As Lord put it, they already have their ’label Attributes,’ which makes it hard to brand them with the Dragon Oak Territory’s. Only by kicking them out can we better achieve the assimilation of this place."

The two reasons encompassed both the characteristics of gnolls and the consideration of human nature. While it wasn’t exhaustive, it was quite comprehensive, making Gaven nod repeatedly.

Taking the opportunity, the young Red Dragon continued, "This is just the initial management model. I think in the middle to later stages, we should select elite gnolls from here and dispatch them to the Dragon Oak Territory for further nurturing and assimilation, or swap them based on their abilities with more suitable personnel from the Dragon Oak Territory. Even if they return here in the end, they will have developed a sense of identity with the Dragon Oak Territory."

"The gnoll eggs from here should also be sent to the Dragon Oak Mother Tree’s nursery for communal hatching and later collective placement. By then, even with geographical differences, both sides will come from the same nest, with a stronger sense of belonging to each other."

Roderick made these suggestions not from a personal stance but from the perspective of the entire Dragon Oak Territory.

Whether he was suggesting this because he had developed a sense of identity with the Dragon Oak Territory like the gnolls, aiming for the greater collective, or simply to please Gaven and win more favor, only he knew for sure.

Whichever the reason might be, it caused Gaven to think even more highly of this Red Dragon. It showed that whether he was sincere or not, he managed to grasp the extent of what he truly wanted. As long as he could make choices that benefited both himself and his territory, there was no need to probe further.
