Chapter 641: Chapter 482: The Scum of Chicken Thieves and Dog Robbers_1

The Ghost Cloak also wouldn’t work, as it only transformed one into a ghost-like state, but not into a true spiritual body. Its invisibility belonged to the Shadow type and couldn’t allow one to enter the Ether Plane.

Counting on his fingers, Gaven could not find a way to enter the small cottage.

After going around in circles, he still had to look for a breakthrough with The Weeping Witch.

This was beyond Gaven’s control; the only thing he could do was to wait for The Weeping Witch to appear on her own.

When night fell and the moon emerged,

The mist enveloping the cottage grew denser, and a phantom slowly floated out from within the cottage.

More precisely, the mist shrouding the cottage began to withdraw and gather, forming The Weeping Witch’s phantom.

Seeing this, Gaven couldn’t help but let a smile creep onto his face.

He had guessed correctly; this cottage was The Weeping Witch’s anchor, her medium to the Material Plane. Should the cottage be destroyed, she would probably be unable to enter the Material Plane and be utterly lost in the Ether Plane.

The Ether Plane is also known as the Land of the Lost.

This indirectly proved that he had found the right place.

"I’m going to kill you!"

Having appeared once again as a silent phantom, The Weeping Witch, upon discovering that her secret magic cottage had been uncovered, flew into a rage.

She charged at Gaven with five large characters looming ominously.

Gaven, fully prepared, simply stood his ground, neither dodging nor evading, allowing the silent phantom to pass through him.

A coldness spread from the inside out.

This chill was not like the piercing cold of negative energy; it was more a damp cold.

And that was all; the opponent was just a phantom composed of Ether Mist, utterly unable to cause Gaven any physical harm.

Gaven neither tried to resist nor to explain, but let her scratch and claw at him as she wished.

She was in a state of rage; anything he tried to say would be useless.

But the self-control of the silent phantom far exceeded Gaven’s expectations and didn’t persist until her strength was exhausted.

After only a few seconds of venting, she returned before Gaven, and a line of misty small characters appeared above her head: "What do you want?"

"I wish to speak with you calmly so that we can each get what we need," Gaven spoke thoughtfully. He had seriously reflected on his approach to The Weeping Witch over the past few days, realizing there were significant issues.

Because from the start, he had targeted the Nesserel Grimoire, treating The Weeping Witch as an information source, an obstacle.

Only considering what he needed without thinking of what the other party needed, naturally, the conversation was doomed to fail.

The demand of The Weeping Witch was simple: she wanted Gaven and his party to leave completely, to abandon their investigation of this place.

But underneath that, the fundamental reason was fear of exposing her biggest secret and becoming vulnerable.

"You tell me, what does ’each get what they need’ involve?" now that her greatest secret was uncovered, The Weeping Witch had no choice but to reevaluate the young man.

He clearly came prepared, knowing precisely what he wanted, with a strength not comparable to an ordinary person.

In just a few days, he had unearthed her deeply hidden secret.

She could certainly crush him should her true form manifest on the Material Plane, but the problem was, at the rate he was progressing, she wouldn’t last long enough before he found a way to break into the cottage.

"As I’ve said before, driving us away is merely a temporary solution; why don’t we set aside our prejudices and look for a way to coexist?" Gaven went on, "Ma’am, by driving us from this place, you merely protect your anchor point in the material world, which, if damaged, will lead to your getting lost in the mist.

But even if we leave, you can’t prevent others from moving in, given that your strength in the Material Plane is limited. Merely frightening people will work on the ordinary, but it carries no weight against slightly stronger professionals, and it might even draw unnecessary attention.

I am willing to guard this secret for you and protect your anchor from any harm."

"What do you want?" the silent phantom repeated her initial query.

"Arcane Adept," Gaven revealed his ultimate goal, "I seek to advance to the Arcane Adept."

That had been his aim all along, whether he obtained it from the Nesserel Grimoire or directly from The Weeping Witch was inconsequential.

Gaven could distinctly feel the silent phantom fluctuate, seemingly relaxing considerably; he sensed an emotion akin to ’you should have said so earlier.’

Due to his recent frequent use of the Heart-Viewing wine, Gaven had become particularly sensitive to others’ emotional fluctuations. The silent phantom, now a spiritual body, was naturally more easily perceived.

"I can teach you the way to become an Arcane Adept, but you must reseal this place," misty small characters emerged above the silent phantom’s head even as she pointed to the tunnel that had been uncovered.

This situation made her feel very insecure.

"No problem, I’ll seal it tomorrow," Gaven agreed readily.

After all, he had no immediate way to enter the cottage; she was clearly deluding herself, and since the cottage wasn’t going anywhere – if he had opened it once, it wouldn’t be difficult to open it a second time.

"Three days from now, at this very spot," the last line of characters appeared above the silent phantom before she faded away again.

With a precise time given, it was, in fact, good news for Gaven. He wouldn’t have to be pinned down here and could attend to other matters instead.
