Chapter 424: Chapter 363 Summary of Large Harvests (Part 1)_1
"This transformation will probably take some time," Gaven suggested. "Why don’t you look around and see if there are any good magic items here?"
Zalanda shook her head and said, "I think not. Now that the original owner is gone, who knows if there are any untriggered traps nearby, or if there are other monsters around. Let’s not invite trouble."
Thinking it over, Gaven nodded and replied, "Fair enough. We’ve only talked about my experiences so far. I haven’t heard about yours yet. Let’s talk while we have the time!"
"Sure!" Zalanda nodded, sat casually on a pile of gold coins next to Gaven, and began to chat with him.
They were supposed to talk about Zalanda’s experiences.
However, as they talked, the conversation soon turned to the situation in Thacel.
Such as the predicaments Zalanda currently faced and the methods to break through them.
Such as the real issues with Thacel and how to treat both the symptoms and the root causes.
Gaven’s view that the warlord nobles were the source of Thacel’s disaster deeply resonated with Zalanda.
But she couldn’t help sighing and said, "How difficult would it be to tear down this class cage? Land, food, minerals, caravans, roads—everything is in their hands, and people are merely tools for them to create wealth. What can you use to resist them? If it weren’t for their fear of Lady Strategy, they would have united and wiped out Darama long ago."
Gaven laughed heartily and said, "Big sister, you think too highly of them. If they could unite, would they have been mired in battles for so many years? Don’t worry about them. Focus on your own development, accumulate more farms, build more walls, and strive to develop the economy.
When your city is prosperous and peaceful, do you think that the Tesser People will stay in their place and continue to be oppressed?
Or will they flee to your territory?
When all their lieges have run away, what use is their great wealth, even if vast?"
"I won’t even need to wait for that time—they will lose patience and declare war on me!" Zalanda couldn’t help but say.
Gaven revealed a cunning smile and said, "That’s exactly what we want, for them to lose patience. Then Lady Strategy can openly stand by your side."
Zalanda couldn’t help but exclaim, "You are truly the best of Lady Strategy’s Chosen. Why didn’t she grant you full Chosen status before?"
Gaven laughed it off, "In this matter, the lady surely has her own plan. Come on, it’s time to go."
"So soon?" Zalanda was a bit surprised; she looked around, and the dragon’s nest was already empty. Not a single gold coin, not even a piece of broken equipment or a skeleton was to be seen—all had been transferred away by Gaven using negative energy.
"It’s still early; it’s already midnight," Gaven chuckled, "But tonight, we probably won’t have any time to sleep. After returning, we still have a big inventory to go through!"
Zalanda also couldn’t help laughing and said, "You should be saying the opposite! If you don’t sort out these gains, will you be able to sleep?"
"Needless to say, definitely not." Gaven laughed heartily.
By the time Gaven and his party rushed back to Weizemay Manor in the middle of the night, the manor was brightly lit, crowded with people and non-humans alike, all looking very excited.
Who wouldn’t be excited, watching gold coins rain down from the sky? Who could sleep?
The courtyard was already packed, with large wooden chests made by the Pikespirit druids working overtime. The shadows were classifying and boxing up the gold coins according to their place of origin.
There were already more than twenty fully packed standard chests, each assumed to contain ten thousand coins.
Packing another twenty chests would not be a problem.
"Lord," Daphne approached them as soon as they arrived, with a smile on her face.
"Did you arrange this?" Gaven asked, pointing to the scene where the gold coins were being sorted.
Daphne was startled and quickly apologized, "I’m sorry, Lord, I made the decision without permission. I will order them to stop immediately."
"No!" Gaven shook his head, "On the contrary, you’ve done very well."
Daphne let out a sigh of relief, although she no longer needed it, "Thank you for the compliment, Lord. Receiving your approval is my greatest honor."
"Tell me about the spoils this time," Gaven said, gesturing for her to skip the formalities.
"As you command," Daphne replied, clearly prepared. "Eighteen troop transport longships have been entirely captured, two of them heavily damaged, three moderately damaged, and the rest in good condition.
We have taken 1,720 mercenaries prisoner, including over three hundred Combat Profession Practitioners; the rest are able-bodied."
They are temporarily imprisoned in the new village, overseen by Lord Thornspike and his men."
"Only a little over three hundred Combat Profession Practitioners?" Gaven’s eyebrows raised questioningly, "Why so few?"
Daphne answered, "They are not a regular mercenary group but temporary mercenaries recruited from taverns and docks. Looking back at the previous situation, these mercenaries were meant to draw out Lord Thornspike and his forces for an attack, mere cannon fodder. The Red Dragon you wiped out, Lord, was the main force behind this attack. Hence, they only needed enough numbers, and individual power wasn’t important."
"Well reasoned," Gaven nodded approvingly, "Continue."
"These magic items were found during the gold coin count. There are relatively few of them as the Red Dragon’s main wealth was concentrated in gold coins." Daphne clapped her hands, and the Dwarf Shadows lined up to approach, each holding a magic item,
There were a total of six magic items, consisting of a crown, a staff, a crystal ball, a flute, a belt, and a face guard.
When Gaven saw the crown and the crystal ball, his eyes immediately lit up, and he pointed to the crystal ball first, saying, "Bring that over to me to take a look."
The Dwarven Shadow holding the crystal ball immediately stepped forward.
As Gaven took the crystal ball and looked at it, his face revealed an unmistakable surprise, and he said, "It’s really it."
"What kind of equipment is this? Do you need it badly?" Zalanda asked curiously.
"I really do need it. I’ve been looking for this magic item for a long time, but there was no trace of it," Gaven explained. "This is a device that can manipulate the weather, called the Favorable Wind Orb. Once attuned, it can maintain mild and pleasant weather within a ten-kilometer radius, no matter if it’s the scorching heat of summer or the cold of winter.
"The effect does sound good, but it’s just an auxiliary tool. Besides making the natural environment a bit more comfortable, it doesn’t seem to have much use, right?" Zalanda said with a puzzled face, as it didn’t seem like an essential item for life.
"For humans, it is indeed just to make the living environment more comfortable, but for Gnolls, its effects are far more significant," Gaven pointed westward and said, "They are ectothermic creatures and are easily affected by changes in external temperature, typically heat-tolerant but not cold-resistant. Without the help of the Favorable Wind Orb, they would have to burrow deep into the earth to hibernate once winter comes."
"I see," Zalanda finally understood. "The same item can have vastly different values to different races. A piece of magic equipment that’s not very useful to humans turns into a priceless treasure for Gnolls. When I return to Tessar, I will keep an eye out for similar magic equipment for you."
"I’ll thank you in advance then," Gaven naturally would not complain about having too many Favorable Wind Orbs.
"What about this crown? What’s its story?" Zalanda continued to inquire.
The crown was a picture of elegance and beauty, in white gold with five pointed peaks, each capped with a small, exquisitely wrought figure of a Metal Dragon, representing Brass Dragon, Red Copper Dragon, Bronze Dragon, Gold Dragon, and Silver Dragon.
"This piece of magic equipment is called the Crown of the North Wind. Legend has it that Bahamut, the Lord of the North Wind and the god of good dragons, made it specifically for Dragonborn Knights to inspire them. This equipment not only grants the wearer a +2 to Charisma attributes but also bestows upon them an Aura of Courage.
However, the most important ability is that it endows those Dragonborn with energy breath weapons a second type of breath weapon, just like the second breath weapon of a Metal Dragon," Gaven listed the attributes of the Crown of the North Wind with enthusiasm, his gaze involuntarily falling on Shanoba, who had already taken human form.
She too was staring at him with an undisguised longing in her eyes.
This equipment was simply tailor-made for her.
In her dragonized form, she had only accessed the Strong Acid Breath of the Red Copper Dragon, but with this equipment, she would be able to perform Slow Breath.
Gaven didn’t waste any words and handed the Crown of the North Wind directly to her.
"Thank you, my..." Shanoba exclaimed with joy, but seeing Gaven’s stern expression, she swallowed the rest of her address.
Gaven’s voice resonated directly in Shanoba’s mind, "You don’t need to thank me, this is what you deserve. Remember one thing, our relationship must be kept absolutely secret, including from Ms. Zalanda."
"Understood," Shanoba replied resolutely in her heart, clearly aware of the deeper implication.
Her gaze involuntarily fell on Zalanda, indicating that this woman had an extraordinary relationship with her master.
Having identified the known magic items, Gaven began to systematically appraise the rest.
The staff was called the Dragon Seeking Staff.
Its purpose was very specific, as its name implied—seeking dragons. It helped the user sense the direction of dragons and guided them there. It could be used three times a day, and each time it could only target one kind of dragon or a specific dragon.
After hearing about the staff’s attributes, Zalanda joked, "This staff matches your title as a Dragon Slayer. You could use it to find and slaughter Giant Dragons for fun in the future!"
"If I were to really do that, in just a few days, those Giant Dragons would all gang up against me," Gaven was not so optimistic.
Giant Dragons are highly intelligent creatures, and although they do not keep in close contact, it does not mean they have no contact at all.
If someone was specifically and massively slaying dragons, it would not be surprising if they united to fight back.
In a low voice, Shanoba added, "It doesn’t necessarily have to be used against Giant Dragons. It can also be used to deal with Dragon Blood or Dragon Vein Creatures, like Bipedal Dragons. I have heard that in the southern part of the Thunder Peak Mountain Range, at a place called Wyvern Horn, there’s a considerable number of Flying Dragons. If you can find them, my Lord, you could completely establish an Air Force of Flying Dragons."
Without intention from the speaker, but with purpose for the listener.
Gaven couldn’t help but nod repeatedly, "That’s a good idea, worth trying when I have the time."
"If needed, I will certainly do my utmost to help," Shanoba quickly assured, for although she could transform into a Bipedal Dragon, she was not a true Flying Dragon and had no profound feelings for those wild ones, naturally not considering selling out or betrayal.
Gaven laughed, "Don’t worry; such a thing certainly can’t do without a lady’s help."
When Gaven’s gaze shifted to the flute,
Daphne spoke up, "I recognize this flute; it’s called the Shadow Dragon Flute, crafted by the Shadow Spirit race of the Shadow Plane from a special type of Shadow Ebony.
This Shadow Ebony only grows in the areas frequented by Shadow Giant Dragons and is mystically connected to them.
Only Shadow Spirits or Shadow Creatures can play this unique musical instrument because each time it is blown, it uses the essence of the soul.
The resulting impact is usually temporary, and the damage sustained can often recover after some time.
But if the summoned Shadow Giant Dragon is too greedy or powerful, the damage might become permanent."
