Chapter 418: Chapter 357: Dancing with the Giant Dragon_1

By the time Luna brought him to hover above the riverbank, the thought that this was a trap was incessantly nagging at Gaven’s mind, especially since the mercenaries, after having assembled, were delayed in launching their attack, simply crouching by the edge of Yewen Pond, then igniting an array of bonfires, and arranging a substantial amount of combustibles at the front of their formation.

One look was all it took to know that they were preparing to launch an attack with a volley of flaming arrows.

Thornspike and the Enlightened Tree Army he led had also reached the riverbank, less than five hundred meters from the enemy, their advance extremely slow.

The ground here was soft and sandy, each step they took left a large deep pit, and they had to expend considerable energy to maintain their balance.

"Cease the attack, spread out, all treants, disband and spread out."

"Pikespirits, to the front, use the Entanglement Spell, cover their surroundings."

Gaven commanded loudly from the air.

Thornspike, who was in a charging stance, immediately halted in his tracks.

The other Enlightened Trees also responded to Gaven’s call one after another.

The Pikespirits hidden among the treants also took action, casting a series of Entanglement Spells, densely covering the area directly in front of the battlefield,

Hou!

Just then, over Yewen Pond, a terrifying roar sounded, growing louder and closer.

A figure in shades of crimson came into view for everyone.

"The Red Dragon! It’s a Red Dragon! An adult Red Dragon!"

"It’s the Scourge of the East Road, no doubt about it, it has to be him."

"Wasn’t he always causing havoc on the East Road? How did he end up in Battle Valley?"

"Isn’t that obvious? He must have been attracted by the immense wealth of the previous auction. Such a vast fortune would tempt even the good-hearted Giant Dragons, let alone a Red Dragon known for its greed."

"How did he know about the auction?"

"Isn’t that obvious? It must be those shameless merchants from Sambia who orchestrated this, it’s what they always do. I heard that this Red Dragon accepted their employment because they never rob Sambia’s caravans on the East Road. Those merchants claim it’s because they make offerings to him, but I say it’s a den of thieves all the same."

"Exactly, the Nameless Mercenaries showing up with the Red Dragon is definitely not a coincidence, but a prearranged plot."

Panicked cries echoed over Yewen Pond.

When these numberless mercenaries landed, they deliberately avoided the Demi-Human boat village.

But they still managed to alarm them, with the majority of the boat houses already disembarked, sailing into the middle of Yewen Pond.

"I knew it wouldn’t be so simple, the ace in the hole is here." Gaven revealed an ’I should have known’ expression and patted Luna’s neck, "Do you have the guts to charge up there?"

"You want to engage it in an aerial battle?" Luna was immediately shocked.

She knew Gaven was brave, but she had not expected him to be this audacious. The opponent was a Giant Dragon, at the very least a young adult Red Dragon.

"If you’re hesitant, I can understand, just get me above it and that will suffice." Gaven was not taunting, but discussing tactics.

The courage to dance with a Giant Dragon was not something everyone possessed.

"If Lord Gaven isn’t afraid, what is there for me to fear?" The look on Luna’s face was not one of dread, but of excitement.

The chance to dance with a Giant Dragon was not something everyone got.

"Please put this on, I need to concentrate." Gaven took the opportunity to take out the Enlarge Necklace.

He wasn’t exploiting the situation for leverage, but he truly needed precise operation.

He was planning a repeat performance of the trick he had used against Shanoba.

"Lord Gaven, please help me put it on my neck." The Half-Moon Colt didn’t refuse, instead, she focused on flying.

To dance with a Giant Dragon was to dance with death itself; utter concentration was necessary, leaving no room for mistakes.

"It’s done." Gaven quickly finished the task.

Luna, without hesitation, activated the saddle on the Enlarge Necklace and did not rashly activate the enlarge spell.

The former simply meant she was carrying an additional saddle on her back, and after flying for a while, she would adapt to it.

The latter was different; the flying speed might not increase by much, and agility could potentially be reduced, making her an easier target for the enemy.

The two sides raced towards each other at high speed, their approach alarmingly fast.

No sooner had they finished getting ready than they were within a stone’s throw of each other.

Gaven immediately activated the Dragon’s Sight Glasses, gathering surface information on the opponent.

Life Force: 222 (18D12+108)

Size: Colossal

Attributes: Strength 29, Dexterity 10, Constitution 22, Intelligence 14, Perception 15, Charisma 14

This was a young peak Red Dragon.

It was two age segments older than the youth Roderick, but the disparity in strength between them was like heaven and earth.

The biggest difference being that the young phase Red Dragon had unleashed an imposing ability.

Also called Terrifying Demeanor, this was a Special Ability.

Before facing down an adult Giant Dragon, one had to withstand the overwhelming pressure from its fearsome presence.

Once fear was stirred within the heart, one would fall into a panicked state, with the body uncontrollably trembling and skittering.

Gaven was not worried for himself, not to mention his Professional Level, which excelled precisely in this aspect.

Above all, his body contained sufficient trump cards and both the Dragon Oak Mother Tree and Weizemay Manor could assist him in resisting such mental pressure.

What he was concerned about now was the Half-Moon Colt, the disparity between their levels was just too great.

Bravery alone was not enough, for this was a Special Ability involving magic.

Those with experience know that when one is standing at the edge of a precipice, the trembling from fear is not controlled by the brain but by hormonal secretion in the body.

Luna was clearly in such a state.

Gaven could sharply feel that as the distance between them narrowed, her flying speed was affected and her body began to tremble. This was a prelude to being dominated by Magic Force.

Without further hesitation, Gaven directly communicated with the Dragon Oak Mother Tree, the Life Force flooding from it through him as a channel, pouring into Luna’s body.

Luna was the prerequisite for him to dance with the Giant Dragon; without relying on her flying speed,

his own Energy Dragon Wings could never keep up with the young Red Dragon unless he could double his speed.

"Yes!" The Half-Moon Colt could not help but let out a long neigh, loudly expressing her approval.

The chilling power of the Dragon Oak Mother Tree flowed around her body, eradicating the fear produced by the Magic Force, not only vanishing without a trace but also increasing her speed by thirty percent.

Even the special ability "Natural Blessing" was activated.

This ability, with its enhancements to speed and endurance, drew from the natural power of trees.

The life force provided by the Dragon Oak Mother Tree was comparable to drawing from hundreds, if not thousands, of trees; activating this ability was only natural.

"Seeking death!" Slark Sata’s eyes were filled with disdain.

As mentioned before, Gaven’s Dragon’s Sight Glasses were modeled after the Giant Dragon’s unique vision.

The power to peer into the strength of other beings was an innate ability of Giant Dragons, far surpassing what the Dragon’s Sight Glasses could perceive.

Although Gaven may seem a little unusual, especially after just having connected with that gigantic tree emanating a natural aura, it did not change the fact that he only had four Professional Levels.

He didn’t use his Dragon Breath; instead, he slightly adjusted his flight path and charged towards Gaven.

He was confident that he could knock this foolish Pegasus Knight from the sky with a single swipe of his paw.

"Trust me, charge at them," Gaven said to Half-Moon Colt.

Combat Armor.

Crown Shield.

Death Roar.

Gaven instantly completed his attire and pointed Death Roar at the Young Red Dragon, "From this moment on, you are my mortal enemy."

Luna did not respond verbally but answered Gaven with her actions.

There was no change in her flying posture as she charged at the Young Red Dragon.

If neither adjusted their stances, an aerial collision would ensue.

Luna, having been nurtured at the Monastery of the Hammer of Justice, was steeply imbued with the core tenets of the Holy Warrior’s and Knight’s way.

She understood clearly what a mount should and should not do.

Among the core principles was absolute obedience to the Knight’s command.

Otherwise, it would not just risk one person’s life but likely both the rider and the mount.

Slark Sata definitely felt something amiss, as if an invisible force surrounded him.

It felt somewhat like Divine Arts, yet also like Law.

But they were now so close that there was no time for him to ponder further.

He just beat his massive wings harder, charging at a greater speed toward Gaven.

Boom!

The two were within ten meters of each other.

Gaven decisively pulled the trigger; Death Roar emitted its usual terrifying roar, while he shouted to Luna, "Gain altitude!"

Hiss!

The Half-Moon Colt used its wings and hooves in unison, sharply ascending.

Howl!

The Young Red Dragon let out a miserable scream.

It paid a heavy price for its arrogance.

At such close distance, with its large size, there was no chance for Gaven to miss.

One shot directly hit the dragon’s right wing near its base.

Physical + Magical damage ranging from 35-70 from 5D8+5D6, even a Young Red Dragon couldn’t withstand it, especially its relatively fragile wings.

The dragon bone in the right wing was clearly broken by the blast, the flight motion was deformed, starting to slide uncontrollably downwards.

But because they were so close and headed directly at each other.

Even though one desperately climbed and the other slid down.

Their distance was still uncontrollably closing in.

A hint of despair flashed in Luna’s equine eyes. If her calculations weren’t wrong, she not only had no way to avoid the Red Dragon, but she would also be delivering herself right into its jaws.

Without needing Flame Dragon’s Breath, it probably could bite off a large portion of her body with a single bite.

The Young Red Dragon had evidently calculated this as well, ferocity gleaming in its eyes, ready to give a ruthless counter not just by biting off half but by clamping down without releasing, to perform a full-round mid-air attack and take them out in one go.

However, its keen Perception rang alarm bells for him.

Unintentionally, the dragon’s eyes shifted to the Pegasus Knight; his expression was not one of fear but of a sly plan succeeding. The strange weapon in his hand aimed again at the dragon, his mouth moving clearly repeating the previous words.

That peculiar feeling once again enveloped the dragon’s body and mind.

A chill surged into Slark Sata’s heart.

The impact on the wing had such terrifying lethality; if aimed at an eye or even the throat, what would happen if another shot was fired? He dared not imagine it.

The Young Red Dragon no longer dared to launch an attack, its wings folded, head lowered, not even daring to collide and instead darting below both rider and mount.

The decisiveness of its actions.

Completely beyond Gaven’s expectations. He had just switched the Crown Shield to the Keen Edge Long Spear and had not even managed to jump.

Half-Moon Colt was a bit bewildered.

Being in the midst of it all, she couldn’t see Gaven’s subtle moves.

All she saw was the Young Red Dragon giving up a golden opportunity to attack, escaping in a flustered manner.

"Chase it, get on its back," Gaven said, while simultaneously flapping the Energy Dragon Wings, beginning to coordinate flight with Half-Moon Colt.

Under normal circumstances, the flying speed of a Young Red Dragon would be superior to Luna’s, especially carrying a rider.

But now, the Young Red Dragon was evidently in abnormal conditions.

The shattered dragon wing didn’t strip him of the ability to fly, but the constant piercing pain severely affected his flying motions, drastically reducing his speed.

The Young Red Dragon, wary of the terrifying killing power of Death Roar, dared not let Gaven come close, tumbling to the left and right.

Making the most of Half-Moon Colt carrying Gaven, exploiting the weakness that he was not as agile in steering.

Then a strange scene unfolded in the sky.

The previously arrogant Young Red Dragon, after just one encounter with Gaven, was now fleeing in a panic.
