Chapter 298: Chapter 241 Mystlock Lock Barrier_1

Mist Barrier and Mystlock Lock Barrier.

They are related, yet there are differences between them.

The Mist Barrier is a type of ritual spell that lasts for a period of time and weakens as time passes. However, compared to a common spell, it lasts quite a bit longer, with the simplest seventh-tier Mist Barrier lasting up to three years.

The Mystlock Lock Barrier is the permanent version of the Mist Barrier. For the same version, its ability is somewhat stronger than the latter, but the cost is much higher, at least ten times that of the latter.

The cost for a seventh-tier Mist Barrier is around thirty thousand, including the Mage’s hiring fee.

A seventh-tier Mystlock Lock Barrier costs between two hundred fifty to three hundred thousand.

The reason for the steep increase in the cost is not just the larger amount of materials required, but mainly due to the surge in the Mage hiring fees.

To cast a Mist Barrier, one only needs sufficient materials and to take up a few days of the hired Mages’ time.

The Mystlock Lock Barrier is different. It not only takes up a lot of the hired Mages’ time but also requires siphoning a significant amount of Experience Value from them, which delays the progression of their Professional Levels.

Often, even if one has the money, one can’t hire Mages willing to sell their Experience Value, especially high-level Mages, because they have too many uses for Experience Value. Many powerful spells require the support of Experience Value, particularly permanent spells, which consume even more Experience Value the higher the level.

"It’s indeed possible, let’s go back and check," Gaven hadn’t thought about this earlier, but now recalling it, after activating the Milestone of Destiny, there indeed were notable changes to the Weizemay Manor Mist Barrier.

Most importantly, in his Consciousness Sea, there were no explanations about this aspect in the Weizemay Manor’s phantom image, especially concerning the duration of the Mist Barrier.

This time, Gaven couldn’t wait to return.

As they couldn’t enter the Weizemay Manor, they could only teleport to the manor’s main gate.

Due to the close connection between Gaven and the manor, even though Lord Virginia had never been to the manor, they could still achieve 100% teleportation accuracy, appearing right at the main gate without a slightest deviation.

"My Lord."

"Master."

When Gaven returned to the main gate of Weizemay Manor, a bunch of people were already waiting there.

It was the Treant Knight Thornspike and the Dog Demon Andrew.

However, the Dog Demon didn’t come back alone; he was followed by more than a dozen Zuo Langs. These were not brought over from the Rocklands, but were summoned from around Battle Valley.

Wherever the Dog Demon went, his typical method was to gather the wild wolves of the surrounding area to serve him, and this time was no exception.

Compared to the cold lack of concern in the Rocklands, this time he was more selective, recruiting only the largest and most formidable of them, the best of the best.

This was, of course, to facilitate stealth and prevent drawing too much attention.

Without having been granted entry rights by Gaven, they were naturally all stopped outside the gate. Including Lord Virginia, Gaven left their Soul Totem auras and granted them the freedom to come and go from Weizemay Manor.

Seeing these strange treants and the high-level devil treating Gaven with such respect, Estelle and her daughter, who were hiding inside the manor, let out a long sigh of relief.

The sudden assembly of these powerful beings outside the manor had indeed given them a fright.

They feared an indiscriminate attack on the manor, especially from that peculiar Treant, whose towering stature and massive battle axe were fearsome—the axe was taller than the courtyard walls; it was more a siege hammer than a battle axe.

They were not afraid of being attacked themselves; their fear was for the manor being damaged.

Luckily, Black Nanmu arrived upon hearing the news and recognized from their auras that Thornspike and he originated from the same source, both having been enlightened by the same person.

The surprise now was as great as the shock had been before. With such existences, the security of the manor shot up significantly.

Estelle respectfully said, "Welcome back, Master."

Although Amanda, standing behind her, did not speak, she also clumsily performed a maid’s courtesy.

Even though Gaven had repeatedly stressed that she still enjoyed the status of a mistress in Weizemay Manor,

she stubbornly held to her views and was determined to be a maid of Weizemay Manor.

Her thoughts were simple: only by making herself valuable to Gaven and to the manor would they have a place to stay and a foothold here.

They were still wearing the maid outfits they had found yesterday, but they were now very fitting, clearly having been tailored and adjusted overnight. Her skills in this area were good; her sewing was even finer and more even than the original.

"Sorry, I left in such a hurry earlier that I forgot to tell you about my subordinates coming this way. Come, let me introduce you to each other. This is Lord Virginia... and this one..."

Mere introductions took Gaven quite an effort.

Upon reflection, there were few among his current subordinates with normal backgrounds or conventional races.

And the two newly acquired ones were no different.

"Thornspike, Touch of Agony is now entrusted to Black Nanmu," Gaven gave a new command to the Treant Knight.

"As you command," Thornspike promptly detached the Touch of Agony from his main staff, handing it over to his new Treant colleague.

For him, the weapon was dispensable.

It had been given to him to use because, throughout the entire Dragon Oak Territory, there was no more suitable user.

Black Nanmu took the oversized vine whip, swinging it through the air repeatedly and creating a sharp cracking sound. The length of his arms, combined with the length of the whip itself, meant his striking range now extended to ten meters. This not only compensated for his lack of close combat ability but also provided him with a mid-range assault capability.

"Thornspike, you shall take root at the main gate. From now on, unless there is a special situation, the flag of the territory must be raised. Black Nanmu, you will take root in the front hall," Gaven arranged defensive positions for the two Treants.

"At your command," the two Treants responded simultaneously and took their positions.

Thornspike, now re-rooted a few meters within the manor, resembled a robust flagpole. The resplendent flag of the Dragon Oak Territory fluttered in the breeze, with the three paintings on it looking so lifelike, as if they were about to come alive. It was clearly visible from miles away.

In the native lands of Dragon Oak Territory, not a single territory flag had yet been raised, but the newly developed manor had already hoisted one.

Gaven turned to the Dog Demon and ordered, "Go and recruit more wolf subordinates. Tomorrow you will accompany me to clear the beasts from the vineyard."

The neglected vineyard at Weizemay Manor had become a haven for these wild creatures.

Especially the wild boars, hares, and voles were overrunning the place. Standing at the edge of the field and shouting would startle a whole bunch of them.

The grapes would ripen before long and they couldn’t allow these animals to cause havoc here.

"At your command," the Dog Demon howled excitedly and quickly left with his Zuo Lang subordinates.

Wolf howls arose from all around, one after the other.

While the vineyard attracted a large number of wild animals, it naturally also attracted various hunters, with wolves being one of them.

Gathering several dozen wolves in a single night was as simple as drinking cool water.

"Is this your doing?" Gaven asked Estelle and her daughter, looking at the empty courtyard of the manor which had been filled with weeds up to half a person’s height.

"Uh-huh," a joy Estelle could not hide was on her face. "The ability of Life Absorption is not only effective on living creatures but also on plants, and very effective at that. The efficiency of weeding is high, very thorough. Not only the visible part, but even the roots turn into dust and won’t grow back."

"That’s imaginative, you can take care of the weeds in the other areas as well," Gaven couldn’t help but give Estelle a thumbs-up, impressed that she had thought of using a vicious Undead spell as a weed-clearing technique.

After all, no one had decreed that Magic abilities couldn’t be used in such a way, had they?

"Thank you for the praise, my Lord, it’s our duty," Estelle replied eagerly.

"From now on, these ten will be under your command," Gaven pointed to ten hearty Gnolls behind him, "They all possess Spell-Like Abilities of Mending. Eight of them possess the regular Mending which they can use three times a day, and the other two possess the Complete Repair Technique, which they can use once a day."

These ten high-ranking Dragon Blood Kobolds were the first group of reinforcements that Gaven had brought.

"Mending? Complete Repair Technique?!" Upon hearing this, Estelle’s eyes suddenly lit up, and her gaze towards the ten Gnolls changed, as if she were looking at treasures.

Mending belonged to the category of magic trickeries that didn’t require spell slots but were extremely practical for ordinary people. A chair with a broken leg, a pickaxe with a snapped handle, or a cracked flowerpot, small damages like these to non-Magic Items could be repaired with a simple Mending.

The Complete Repair Technique was an upgraded version of Mending, a second-level spell with much stronger capabilities.

Just like the previously rust-stuck cellar secret door, a Complete Repair Technique could not only fully restore it to normal but also erase all traces of corrosion and decay from the years, making it look brand new.

Those rotten, nearly scrapped wine barrels are also a matter for the Complete Repair Technique.

With twenty-four Mending and two Complete Repair Techniques cast every day, Estelle was confident that she could make Weizemay Manor look brand new within just a few days.

"Besides, they’re also excellent miners, skilled at digging trenches and caves. Assign them daily tasks, let them use up all their spell-like abilities, then have them expand the wine cellars. When I have time, I’ll designate an area for them to excavate living caves. Until then, let them temporarily reside on the first floor of the main building," Gaven added.

These ten gnolls would be permanent residents at Weizemay Manor.

As various trades commence at the manor, their ability to repair and refurbish would be frequently called upon.

"Alright, leave it to me." Estelle was even more concerned about the maintenance of Weizemay Manor than Gaven. This place was not only their home but also the source of their vitality. The more prosperous the manor, the more vigorous their lives would be.

This knowledge had been automatically instilled into their consciousness the moment they became Earthbound Spirits.

With everything arranged, Gaven approached Lord Virginia. She didn’t return immediately but circled around Weizemay Manor. Every so often, she would stop and press her hand on the walls, with a green Magic Aura flashing, followed by corresponding Magic Auras appearing on the walls, revealing mysterious Magic Runes clearly illuminated by the Magic Aura.

Lord Virginia was examining Weizemay Manor’s barriers, not just distinguishing between a Mist Barrier and a Mystlock Barrier, but she was also trying to deduce the construction methods of the Mist Barrier and even the Mystlock Barrier.

If she had her own Mystlock Barrier, the War Giant Tree in Dragon Oak Territory would be significantly enhanced, with a substantial increase in defense capabilities.

"How is it?"

"It’s a Mystlock Barrier," Virginia said with certainty. Although she was not familiar with either Mist or Mystlock Barriers, that didn’t prevent her from making an accurate assessment.

"That’s great," Gaven replied, unable to hide his excitement despite having anticipated this outcome.

"What about teleportation? Can you teleport from inside to outside?" He asked the question because he had previously used the Flawless Teleportation of the Dragon Oak Mother Tree directly within the manor without being affected.

Given his special relationship with the manor, this incident couldn’t serve as a reference.

If the barrier could only prevent entry but not exit, the effectiveness would be greatly diminished.

"I’ve already tested it; all teleportation spells are ineffective, including Fairy Step. This manor has become a realm of its own," Virginia had clearly anticipated the same issue.

"Heh heh..." Gaven’s gaze flickered non-stop, and he couldn’t help but let out a malevolent chuckle at the thought of his excitement.

Virginia, unsettled by Gaven’s laugh, couldn’t help but ask, "What nefarious plan are you concocting now?"

"Don’t you think this manor resembles something?"

"What thing?"

"If some fool comes here to assassinate me, guess what would happen?" Gaven’s smile was as lecherous as it could be.
